Could this also be Sony adapting the Firmware to fit the specs of that all-so-rumoured UMD-less PSP2.. I could see it if they are planing to goto a MarketPlace set for downloadable games.

Rentals and Purchases.. I havent bought a game in over a year for my 2 PSPs.. If they went to lower prices or even had an UMD-less rental system, I might be playin games on them again..

"The UMD is expensive and eating battery life. How do we sell games on it."
"Eat their hearts for blue diodes?"
"Send him to home consoles division. No we need a better way to make games."
"How about carts. They've always worked for handhe.."
"You're fired. This is a PORTABLE not a handheld."
"The pirates rip ROMs and ISOs of games"
"You're suggesting stealing from thieves!"
"Not the first time."
"That just might solve the dead UMD and battery life. Now we just need to solve how to market this."
"How about through the security update and say it's a feature."
"Brilliant."

Aaaaand right on schedule Dark Alex (the guy behind all of the OE firmware releases) has updated his web page to say that he's "quitting the scene;" likely he had reason to believe that freeing this up the way he did PS1 emulation would be putting too large of a target on his head.

I think Sony is learning from Apple.

If you're going to make it video, music and photo happy....allow it to connect to an iTunes like application. This is the way to go.

Bring it on Sony!!!

Sweet.

Now dump the anti-homebrew and I'll be happy. No need to un-DRM games you buy from an online store except to pirate it. If they'd open the PSP platform, I'd buy one again in a heartbeat.

And as soon as this is announced, Dark_Alex announces his retirement from the scene. Seems like Sony got to him.

Dark Alex 2.0 will be around soon. Someone else is most likely going to continue were he left off.

It always happens this way. A torrent website gets taken down and then a new one comes up. It never ends.
