Sony's PlayStation 3 production problems are over
Though you might feel somewhat confused by the mention of PlayStation 3 production issues in the face of plentiful in-store stock, it was a shortage of blue laser diodes used in the construction of the console that delayed its European release and constricted its initial launch supply. Compoundsemiconductor.net (yes, they have a website for that sort of thing) reports that there is officially a shortage of shortages, with Sony's production line now churning out enough blue lasers for all its consoles, Blu-ray players and needlessly elaborate office parties. More specifically, 1.7 million per month.
A Sony spokesperson confirmed: "Production problems have now ceased, we're in full production as far as Playstation 3 is concerned and there's a steady chain of supply in North America, Japan and Europe." Though the production troubles may not have noticeably affected consumers in recent times, increased diode supply may yet lead to a reduction in manufacturing cost, from which savings could eventually be passed on to PS3 buyers. As if you didn't instinctually know already, the more blue lasers the better.

well, how about some price job now, Sony? The word is the diodes' price have dropped from 3 digital to 2 (or maybe even one pretty soon), how about passing that to the customer and cut the price by 100?
heck, you know you want (and have) to.

"job" = "cut". *sighs*, sorry.

Considering that WHOLE BluRay Drive costed 125$ in 2006.
And in that diode was worth LESS than 30$. (27$ IIRC)
Cost of diode at the end of 2007 was prognosed as 8$.
20$ to consuments from diode alone.
100$ PS3 price cut is right behind the corner :)

Is it really that hard to take out a console that works? On other hand I found the great site which takes all of gaming news to one site, visit http://gamepanel.net/

Of course, when demand for the product is substantially less than intended, that makes it pretty easy to meet the reduced production levels that result.

The only interesting part to this story are responses 1-16. Its all a mish mash of sentence fragments. I truly don't speak the same language as 90% of the population anymore.

So...there's going to be more? Great..
I work at Sam Goody and we've sold one(1) PS3 since launch. We have about 5 or 6 in stock now but I think we're going to have to start building an additional room to the store just to accommodate the massive boxes that are the PS3.
Now, if only we had that problem with the Wii...
