This Wednesday: Missile Command defends XBLA

Missile Command will come in two flavors: retro and evolved. The retro version will feature the blocky glory of the original while the evolved version will look like what you see above (check out both in our gallery). The sweetness is that the game will only be 400 MS points ($5). Updated graphics in a retro game at a retro price? That's something worth defending.

He also planned with satellites as well.

Is it just me or does the updated look completely remove the graphical charm from the title?

I love Wikipedia...
Missile Command -> National Missile Defense -> Strategic Defense Initiative -> Spies Like Us -> Chevy Chase -> Three Amigos

This was always a bad game, even back in the Spectrum days.

wheres the love for bomberman live, that game was suppose to come out 2 weeks ago!

Unfortunately, neither version can be played with a trackball. It ain't Missile Command without one.
And I agree, the graphics in the new version just suck the lifeforce out of the game. The cool thing about MC's original graphics were that they were something like those high-contrast DOD computers you'd see in movies like Wargames (and the modern-day versions are basically the same - the simplicity and high contrast graphics are intentional).
"This was always a bad game, even back in the Spectrum days."
As I said, trackball. Most of us Americans know this game from the arcades, where it played properly.

I find myself getting sick when I repeatedly see people thinking $5 for a 25 year old game is "sweet".
$5 for both versions please.

@Alex
"$5 for both versions please."
Um.... wish granted?

While I'm as excited for Bomberman Live as the next guy, everything I've seen listing a release says "July." Seeing as how it's the first week, I'm not sure it's overdue. Where did this "two weeks ago" come from, crazy puppet?

Remake looks nice...
BUT, nostalgia is overpraised when games are as vintage as this.
now - where's Bomberman.

Wow. I, for one, think the new graphics look pretty sweet. This is a nice throwback to the 2600 days.

@8
What are you talking about? As #9 points out, both version are included for $5... just like every single other retro XBLA with both enhanced and retro graphics.

In the Evolved version you can't just hold the fire button down. You have to shoot in random bursts so the rhythm of your guns doesn't attract sand worms.

jay, This was an arcade game with a rollerball for controls. Spectrum's version was utter crap.
Spitkicker @ Jul 3rd 2007 12:04PM
SWEET! Still it is hard to beat Heavy Weapon. I think that is one of my top 5 XBLA games.
