Fans of Auto Assault will [insert a thing you do in Auto Assault here] for the last time on August 31, as the game finally runs out of gas and pulls on to the shoulder to wait for a AAA truck that will never arrive. If you've already paid for months of play beyond that point, NCsoft says you'll have your cash refunded.
Yes, it's sad for the game's few fans, but you could hardly call it unexpected. While we all thought the idea of tooling around in a Mad Max-esque world sounded like fun, the game never really seemed to get any traction, if you'll forgive the unintentional pun. Farewell, Auto Assault, we barely knew ye. ... And most of us didn't know you at all.

I was one of the 'lucky' ones that got to play in their beta. I don't think it ever had a real chance...It did indeed "suck hard"

I heard about this game and was really expecting something awesome. I got in the beta got excited, and then got in the game. Ok.. fun will start ina couple minutes... has to happen in the next few minutes right ? I have been playing for an hour! Ok.. forget the beta. Wow get to go play the real thing for a bit for free, maybe they fixed stuff. Hmm looks just like the beta. omg sucks worse than the beta... what did they do! such a good idea, such a bad outcome

It sounded cool in theory.. but the screenshots i saw looked much more Twisted Metal than Mad Max.
Now, a decent.. simulation style mad max game would ROCK HARD!

This is dissapointing.
NCSoft would've won my monthly fee if they had bundled this with CoH/CoV in an all-inclusive access pass.
Alone neither of these games are worth the fee for me but together I would've gladly paid (as long as I didn't have to buy the client at full price).

a shame. i've been saying for awhile now that i wish ncsoft would go with an all-inclusive pass setup.
i'd happily spend $20-$30 a month + some setup for the retail cost of the games if it meant i could play coh/cov, auto assault, lineage II, etc. i'm not hardcore enough to subscribe to all, but, sometimes i feel like playing coh, sometimes lineage II. instead i opt for none.
i think even tack jin kim mentioned 2 years ago or so they were exploring this option.

Auto Assault was always peoples number 3 MMO. 5 years ago it would have been awesome but there were always a couple other MMO's that were better sitting around waiting to be played. And who has time to play 3 MMO's?

The game looked, and actually played pretty decent 2 E3's before it shipped. Then the E3 before it shipped, all of sudden it was suffering from horrible lag...on the show floor.
Once I played the beta, it never got any better. I was pretty crushed. This was a game I really had high hopes for. I really wanted an MMO that needed some skill, but apparently, this wasn't the one I wanted.

While I never got to play Auto Assault (I had little interest in it), I am always sad when an online-only title gets shut down.
I would love to see, in cases like this, the company releasing their server-side setup so people can set up their own dedicated servers in the wake of the "official" time being over. Even if they have to charge extra for the option when it opens up and restrictions need to placed (Such as for non-profit purposes only), it seems to me that it's a better option than having a dead paperweight shaped like a game box (Or, if you downloaded it, deleting the now wasted space.)
Of course, this is all hopeful thinking. Probably too hopeful.

I played the Beta and the game just didn't do it for me the game had so much promise though. If they had made the game with decent out of car gameplay as well as the fun car combat and a bit more simulator like as someone said above it would have ruled I imagine something like Interstate 76 . Sure it is a car game but it ended up feeling like a MMO were you played a car instead of a RPG that you drove a car. As well the combat felt sloppy and tacked on you could change all the cars to barbarians and most of the time you would't have been able to tell the difference, there needed to be battles on a highway at 80 plus mph. Maybe missions against a tanker etc imagine an instance that was a highway battle against a evil 18 wheeler that is a rolling fort.

Gamestop tried to give these games away free when you bought a PC game, period.
We had people just flat out refuse the free game, on the basis that it looked just plain retarded.

NC soft needs to revitalize its pay for system the normal 8-14 is just not working,I would be willing to pay 20 a month for a 3 charatcer max per game and just have all their games avabliable for this(they would actually get more money this way),20 for the buffet and 3 for indavendaul games with a max of 2 charatcers per game, you can offer the "normal" multi charatcers/multi severs thing for 15 for all I care I refuse to spend more than I have to for mindless repetitive MMOs... anythign more than 9 a month is ridiculous.

The CompUSA that I used to work at (which ironically is closed as well) pushed the crap out of this title when It came out. It got so many price reductions, it made my head spin.

Personally I enjoyed the beta quite a lot. I didn't buy the full version due to the fact that my crappy PC had issues running it. I just wish they had developed a 360 version. I think it would have done quite well. Better than the PC version, at least...
