Game|Life reports this morning that Super Smash Bros. Brawl will not be playable at next week's adorable little E3 expo, according to one Nintendo media representative.
Though normally this would be considered bad mojo for any major title in development, we already know that Metal Gear Solid's Hideo Kojima played a "very complete" version of the game back in April. Game|Life's Chris Kohler chalks up Brawl's absence to Nintendo's limited presentation time at the newly-downsized event, and a possible plethora of new titles to show off.
As if to ease our anxieties further, the representative also emphasized that Brawl was still very much a 2007 release title. We all know how much Nintendo likes letting release dates slip, so let's hope that Brawl digs in and lands in our laps by the holiday season.

They are holding off on that announcement since it will also confirm NO ONLINE MULTIPLAYER... dont want to disappoint Wii owners too much in one day (ie MP3).

It's probably non-playable to keep wraps on the features, stages, and characters.

MP3: no online and delayed
SSB: playable no show on E3.
don't be surprise if Galaxies moves back to 08. Heck, why would Nintendo rush anything? Idoits are buying their console regardless.

I'm starting to expect this sooner rather than later, to be honest.
Like.. early October.
And no, I don't expect this to have online multiplayer, and I'm glad as anything for that - who the hell wants online multiplayer without proper voice chat, and who the hell wants to play against the sort of people who break Smash Bros to hell and high water?
Three hells.

I am not concerned about cheaters or cheesers. I want to play with the ppl I know.

Wow, that's surprising. It was looking like Brawl would be Nintendo's main showpiece at E3, but I guess they either haven't had enough time for a playable version to look good enough for them to show at E3, or they want to focus attention on other games. I guess Nintendo is saving the best stuff for TGS lol.

"Break Smash Bros. to hell and high water"?
You mean good players? Fortunately for you, "pro" smashers are the extreme minority. And because of that, most of us will probably stick to using friend codes so we can avoid noobs and play with people who give good practice.
So quit bitching

I have a feeling that e3 for them is going to be a big congratulatory "pat-on-the-back-fest" focusing on tons of casual and non-games. Expect more minigame compilations, and perhaps something playable from metroid, but essentially thats all.

Yeah... remember when Reggie said Metroid 3 will definately be online and we'd have several online titles by Q2 2007. That was nice...
Oh wait, that's right. This is about SSBB.... umm, yay? I mean, don't get me wrong, should be fun but my Wii is looking at one prize only... Super Mario Galaxy.

Brawl had better have online. Unlike MP3 for example, Brawl online makes a lot of sense. I am disappointed by this, but I guess Sakurai didn't want people to get their grubby hands on Smash until closer to release. Whatever they bumped Smash for had better be good.

At this point, I'm going to protest. I'm not going to buy another Wii game until it's Super Mario Galaxy. Period. I'm getting tired of being told "Wii have great games like Mario Party 8, Big Brain Academy, and Pokemon Revolution." Fuck that, it's SMG or nothing.

With the Smash Bros. site up every day with new screen shots, I am keeping faith that this comes out this year. Those screens that are coming look pretty polished to me, but of course, I haven't seen it in motion.
I bet the game is done and just going through attack balancing right now.

#3 is correct. It also takes a lot of time to just make a demo. SSBB is almost finished so Altering it to the point of demo where not too much more would be revieled is a big waist of time.

I think #4 Jake got it. Why use your limited presentation time to show off a game most Wii owners are already going to get and turn others into Wii owners.
Also, showing it off now would sort of defeat the purpose of the blog. Speaking of which, I saw that today they're saying Bowser is going to have a different flavor, whatever the hell that means.

as others have said, we get 5 updates on smash bros a week, they're using their time to show something else that we possibly haven't seen or haven't seen in a while (what happened to Project HAMMER and Disaster:Day of Crisis?)
Also, Brawl had better have online... I'll buy it regardless (if I could, I would have already preordered it), but the difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little "extra". Metroid was never meant to be a multiplayer shooter, it would have been nice to have something like that, but story mode's what it's all about. Smash Bros was meant to be a multiplayer all-out brawl, and what better way to do that than with some people you've never met from across the country or the world?!

Okay, everyone just calm down! First off, Metroid. The developers never said that MP3 would have online multiplayer. They always said they wanted to put all focus into the single player and make that the best as possible. I actually recall an interview with IGN where they said this, but I don't have the link. So to be honest, I don't know what you all are bitching about. On a side note, I thought that Prime Hunters was terrible online so this can only be viewed as a win.
Secondly, Brawl. Calm down! Just because it isn't in playable form at mini E3 does not mean that it's a 2008 title. Hell, there is a blog updating on it's status daily. Get a grip. If I recall there have been a lot of games not shown at E3 but still made it out of the gate by the end of the year. Hell, SMG was shown at E3 last year and that still isn't out. Maybe this is a good thing. However I don't think there will be online, but I'm probably wrong on that one.
As for Galaxy, this is the only one I'm skeptical about. Iwata is the king of delaying games to make them perfect. I have no doubt that SMG will be the prime example for how to use the Wii controller, but I think it's a close call to say that will be out by Christmas. If they do get all of these out in time then they might as well hand Nintendo the console war because not even Halo 3 can take on these 3 alone.

Reggie also said Metroid Prime WOULD be a WiFi game in the past. But I'm not really worried about that. And having four player splitscreen on that game would be horrid.
My problem is simply SMG, where is it. Why are they all too quiet on it?

Everyone just seems to assume that Nintendo or Retro Studios themselves actually said anything about Online Multiplayer for MP3, they never did, it was just speculation from outsiders, and Nintendo being coy about it (remember when asked if "perfect" would include online play, Reggie simply said "perfect for YOU" with emphasis on the last word, indicating not perfect to themselves"
Brawl is a different case, Sakurai has been saying since the earliest days that WiFi would be implemented in some way, but that there would be hurdles to be crossed
I expect that Galaxy will be the premier showpiece this time, and if it doesn't show much new content at E3, then expect a delay to 08

See, I'm not going to Ebay my Wii. WHY?!?
Simply put, I'd just have to rebuy it when SMG comes out AND this way I get to keep my gamesaves, VC dls, and Miis intact AND I save myself from the public embarassment of yelling out a phrase like "I'm just going to Ebay it off."
Win win, baby.

If Brawl doesn't have online multiplayer, I'll be very pissed. Metroid was always designed with a single player adventure in mind, not multiplayer, so I don't really care if Metroid is missing online play (that and Hunters online was so infuriating). But Smash Bros was ALWAYS designed as a multiplayer game, and I always thought Smash Bros would be an intense online experience, so if it isn't online, I will be both mad with fury and furiously mad.

Dudja try out RE4 for Wii? I know, it's mostly a copy and paste affair, but it has the PS2 extras, and it has, I think, the greatest controls on the Wii yet. Red Steel and all the others have been wonky, but RE4 is perfect. I kick so much more ass in Mercenaries Mode because of the controls.
