Matt Groening to be final boss in Simpsons game
The first family of cartoon comedy will finally meet their maker after 18 years. Matt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons, and whose life is certainly not hell, will appear in the upcoming The Simpsons Game. Groening tells Eurogamer, "They did a send-up of video games. It's a video game about video games; and I'm in the video game. I'm a boss that you have to fight at the end of the game."So according to Groening he'll be the final boss in the Simpson video game. Sounds like the perfect final boss. If this were 19th century literature we'd have been forced to read it in high school due to the subtext of one man fighting his creation, to which he'll inevitably succumb. Groening says he had a good time recording for the game, "It was really fun recording a million ways of dying, going 'UGGH, ARGGH, EUURGH!'" The Simpsons Game will be out this fall, now can we finally get The Simpsons arcade game on XBLA or PSN?.

Can we comment on how the last 5 or 6 years of Simpsons is absolutely terrible and how they are only a former shadow of themselves and that the movie will blow terrible (based on it's previews)???
JodyAnthony @ Jul 5th 2007 10:20AM
the simpsons show is still great and the previews for the movie look great as well.

When 'Everybody Loves Raymond' was cancelled for the sole reason that 'We wanted to end it before it got stale', I was up in arms. "HOW THE BLOODY HELL DOES A GOOD SERIES LIKE THAT BECOME CRAP ANYWAY!?" I asked. After seeing my most cherish cartoon deteriorate into non-sensical drivel whose idea of humour is for repeated acts of pain to occur on Homer, I now understand. Please Matt. Just end this shit. I love the old Simpsons too much.
PS. Hey, I liked Everybody Loves Raymond. =)

5 or 6 years?! The Simpsons has been doing downhill since the first episode after Who Shot Mr. Burns.
...which was actually the first episode before that, since, for whatever reason, Fox played that one (the one where Lisa makes friends with the "cool kids" at the beach) before the WSMB episode.
Indeed...I remember rather vividly the first time I thought a Simpsons episode sucked. It was like being forced to go from being a child to a man by making him fight in a violent, bloody war.
incrediblebulk92 @ Jul 5th 2007 10:34AM
@3 get over it, its not funny, the movie will not be funny, the game will not be funny and will be absolute shit, both will make more money than most good games this year.
2 your right dude, 100% right, the simpsons is sucking hard, futurama was soo much better
jay @ Jul 5th 2007 10:34AM
The Simpsons died oh-so long ago.
Konny @ Jul 5th 2007 10:37AM
Meh, i stopped watching the Simpsons a long time ago... (not having cable for the last 5 years will do that).
Anyways, aside from the arcade Simpsons game, there has never been a decent Simpsons game .. a lot like the Superman and Transformer franchises; nobody knows how to turn them into games.

All about family guy now! and American Dad :D
synce @ Jul 5th 2007 10:48AM
I agree that the Simpsons are horrible now. I've tried watching the newer episodes several times, but they're usually not at all funny. And it's not because everything was better when I was younger. South Park is just as funny to me today as it was ten years ago.

What are you people all talking about, Simpsons Hit and Run was a great game that only recently came out. One problem I saw with Futurama was that their wasn't any character's (but Bender) that I gave a damn for. The Simpsons have changed over the years, and the old episodes are the best, but the new episodes are great too and I like them (there was a few years where it was pretty bad). The last episode (24 minutes) was really funny... but most of the jokes you'd only get if you watched 24.
JodyAnthony @ Jul 5th 2007 10:52AM
sorry incrediblebulk92. I'll start pointlessly hating the simpsons like everyone else. God forbid I actually still find the show quite funny. I forgot that I'm not allowed to find humor in the simpsons because you dont.
Anam @ Jul 5th 2007 10:52AM
To make a good Simpsons game they need to focus on what made the Simpsons good in the first place: the writing. It wasn't really the animation, which was just alright.
They should try taking some tips from Monkey Island about how to make a game where the writing and witty dialogue are the focus of the game.
JodyAnthony @ Jul 5th 2007 10:55AM
oh one more thing incrediblebulk92, I was planning on watching my DVDs of Jack of All Trades (staring Bruce Campbell) tonight and usually I laugh when I watch them, but I want to make sure you approve of the humor first. I wouldn't want to have another embarrassing episode where I think something is funny when you think it isn't. I alreayd feel so very embarrassed by the simpsons fiasco.
samfish @ Jul 5th 2007 10:57AM
"I forgot that I'm not allowed to find humor in the simpsons because you dont."
God damn right! AND DON'T YOU FORGET IT AGAIN...boy...
Seriously, though...they need to bring back Conan O'Brien to write.
RagnarokAngel @ Jul 5th 2007 11:00AM
Uh...guys? I think #2 was being sarcastic...
Anam @ Jul 5th 2007 11:03AM

Out of curiosity, do you like Futurama more or less than newer Simpsons episodes? I've personally been more into Futurama, but it needs more good characters, as se37 said.
JodyAnthony @ Jul 5th 2007 11:06AM
Conan O'Brien was the writer for both the episode where homer goes back to college, and the monorail episode, two of my favorite episodes of the show.
the bee bit my bottom, now my bottoms big
JodyAnthony @ Jul 5th 2007 11:07AM
Anam, personally I think Futurama is better than every television show ever.
JodyAnthony @ Jul 5th 2007 11:10AM
although Good Eats is a VERY close second for best show ever. Gotta love Alton Brown.
Jonathan Tran @ Jul 5th 2007 11:14AM
There are some great lines in futurama equal to or better than any simpsons line
"If we hit that bullseye, their dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate!"
Globetrotters, after landing in central park in a ufo: For NO REASON WHATSOEVER, we challenge the planet Earth to a game of basketball!!!
Person, scared: What happens if we lose?!?
Globetrotters: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!
Crowd: *panics*
Dustin @ Jul 5th 2007 11:19AM
Wow, a good eats reference, that rocks.
While the simpsons may or may not be as funny as it once was, humor IS the most subjective thing probably in existence. Also the Simpsons are falling prey to the old but always present "Hateing something lots of people like makes me cool" era that all great things go through.
The only thing worse than a conformist is a fashionable non-conformist.
GaryM @ Jul 5th 2007 11:22AM
Simpsons hate is just so 2001.
JodyAnthony @ Jul 5th 2007 11:23AM
Dustin, sadly that happens with everything. Just go on any message board and look at how many people hate say Final Fantasy 7 or Ocarina of Time.

Wait. There are people that liked Everybody Loves Raymond?
And I'll wait for the movie to come out before judging it. Yeah, the current seasons aren't as good as they used to be, but that doesn't mean that there's no hope for the movie.
JodyAnthony @ Jul 5th 2007 11:27AM
go go go new justice team
go go go go team team team
if there was a new justice team video game, I would be so happy. As is I'm stuck with that not-very-good-of-a-game-but-still-awesome-because-its-futurama Futurama game for PS2. So worth the $20 I paid for it, if only for the cinematics/voice acting.
Max @ Jul 5th 2007 11:29AM
Dink Smallwood beat him too it.
Brad Lee @ Jul 5th 2007 11:38AM
I think Futurama should have replaced The Simpsons.
Though I still think the "golden era" (or should I say yellow era?) of The Simpsons (probably seasons 3-6 or 7) is some of the best TV ever, and no ammount of random, pot-inspired insanity of Family Guy is ever going to top it.
That said, I actually like Family Guy, it just irritates me when people compare it to the best Simpsons has to offer. There's just no comparison. All of Family Guy's jokes are completely random, the plot is often ridiculous and completely pointless to the comedy, and the characters simply aren't likable, many in fact are just annoying as hell (Chris, Meg). And perhaps worst of all is that the show so often has to have these trite moral messages at the end that just feel tacked on and stupid, especially when it often comes from the most immoral character in the show (Peter).
At least if The Simpons has a message to deliver it is done so throughout the whole of the plot, as opposed to Family Guy's hackneyed crap at the end just to wrap up the episode.
And don't even get me started on the new episodes, Stewie was so much funnier as a mad genius who wants to kill his mother and rule the world as opposed to a repressed homosexual. I would have much rather seen Futurama make a return than Family Guy.
Supposedly it might, let's keep our fingers crossed.
h8rain @ Jul 5th 2007 11:44AM
I did not see the episode 24 minutes, but South Park beat them by a couple of months with their episode about the "snuke". I think the episode of South Park (called something like "The Simpsons Did It"), when Butters is trying to figure out something the Simpsons have not already done, was pure genius. IMO, the Simpsons has gotten really stale over the years, and I personally think Fox only keeps it on the air to break (or prevent someone else from beating them) the world record for longest running show.
BTW, I loved Futurama, bring back good shows like that, instead of beating the dead horse (Simpsons).
The Simpsons arcade game definitely eat some quarters of mine when I was younger, probably one of the best games made from TV/Movie (Except for the original TMNT arcade game, which was basically the same as Simpsons).
JodyAnthony @ Jul 5th 2007 11:48AM
the real question is which was better? The simpsons arcade game or the x-men arcade game?
vidGuy @ Jul 5th 2007 11:53AM
I completely agree with everything you got there, Brad Lee.
Plus, Futurama has been confirmed as returning in 2008 to air at least 13 episodes on Comedy Central.
Dustin @ Jul 5th 2007 11:56AM
Hey I liked Everybody Loves Raymond, huge guilty pleasure.
Patricia Heaton - Hottest TV mom EVER!!
JodyAnthony @ Jul 5th 2007 12:00PM
Megyn Price has Patricia Heaton beat any day of the week.
samfish @ Jul 5th 2007 12:06PM
"the real question is which was better? The simpsons arcade game or the x-men arcade game?"
The order of arcade brawler greatness is:
1) Ninja Turtles.
2) Simpsons
3) X-Men
"Plus, Futurama has been confirmed as returning in 2008 to air at least 13 episodes on Comedy Central."
You know, that kinda pisses me off. Cartoon Network deserves all the credit for giving Futurama a honest shot and when it gets popular enough to finally merit new episodes, Comeday Central comes in and cherry picks it.
It's like in school where you did all the work for the science fair or something and then some other kid comes and steals your idea and gets an A for it.
It is, as The Monarch says, a "dick move"!
JodyAnthony @ Jul 5th 2007 12:08PM
futurama is the only reason I watch cartoon network anymore (even thought I have all the seasons on dvd)
the only thing that makes me mad is they censor "sweet zombie jesus"
Brad Lee @ Jul 5th 2007 12:17PM
@ JodyAnthony
The Simpons. The game was more imaginative and the boss battles were more over-the-top.
@ vidGuy
It just bugs me seeing a new generation growing up, saying Family Guy is awesome and The Simpsons sucks. The Simpons may have fallen from grace, but it was once both brilliant and hilarious, and managed to deliver offensive humor with dignity. Family Guy just throws intelligence and dignity right out the window.
And it's good to know Futurama's comeback is official now, if only for 13 episodes.
And as for South Park, I don't know. Sometimes the show is hilarious and other times, not so much. It seems the funniest when the show is targeting something or someone. The episodes with Paris, J-Lo, and Mel Gibson were hilarious. And the one attacking Scientology was priceless, "You don't actually believe in this crap do you?"
Intentless @ Jul 5th 2007 12:20PM
Sweet Zombie JESUS!!! FTW... Yeah... and please don't say anything mean about my family (Futurama).. I have watched every episode so much and never tire of it.... Each character has been developed to one degree or another...
L @ Jul 5th 2007 12:20PM
The Simpsons sucks, but Futurama still rules. Simpsons used to be my favorite show, but lately it's like they're trying too hard to be "modern" and compete with South Park and Family Guy rather than stick with what made it so awsome before all the stupid politics and obvious societal jabs. The Simpsons used to be the only "no spin zone" on all of FOX. Now it's just lame.
@JodyAnthony
Adult Swim seems to censor anything with the word "Jesus". It's like they want the J-man to not exist. You can't even type the name "Jesus" on their forums because it considers it a profanity. WTF? Jesus a profanity?
JodyAnthony @ Jul 5th 2007 12:25PM
thats stupid about the jesus thing. what about in moral orel? do they talk about jesus in that? (ive never seen the show, just the commercials)
as for futurama, I love the fact that everything was so developed story-wise, what with nibbler and all.
Hater3000 @ Jul 5th 2007 12:38PM
Finally,If the game sucks you can at least beat Matt Groening well virtually but hey at least you get even with someone.
Now the last 5 Simpson seasons have sucked to the point I rather watch Family guy and that so sad because for every single pun in family guy that is good the show is plagued with crap, really i want to beat up the people behind family guy especially the guy that came up with the idea of stewie.
American Dad is Mediocre at best.
Southpark for me was a Hit or a Miss. Most of the Southpark episodes I've watch are funny but some of them were simply disgusting, ghey or too stupid.
I liked more Malcom in the Middle and King of queens.Everybody loves Raymond was good until they started to use the same plot over and over and over again.
Brad Lee @ Jul 5th 2007 12:49PM
I'm surprised no one has mentioned King of the Hill either. That show is far more hilarious than you'd think. It has a bit of a conservative leaning, but that's a bit of a nice change of pace compared to the number of shows leaning in the other direction.
Actually I'm not that surprised, because for how funny that show is, I almost always forget to mention it too.
Brad Lee @ Jul 5th 2007 12:56PM
@ Hater3000
I agree, for the most part American Dad is mediocre. But you have to admit Stan is hilarious.
They should just rename the show to STAN, because that's where 90% of my laughter comes from. Roger isn't really funny. He's gay stereotype trapped inside of an alien body, but he's still just a gay stereotype all the same. And the fish is just confusing. I don't know what to think about him.
JodyAnthony @ Jul 5th 2007 1:00PM
I like american dad moreso than family guy. that being said neither of them are that great.
I do very much enjoy king of the hill though, except for the episodes with cotton. fuck that guy.
Charles @ Jul 5th 2007 1:19PM
I've been hoping for a Simpson's Arcade release to consoles since day one (which made Bart vs. Space Mutants all that more aggravating to play (damn you Museum level)).
Ideally this would have already happened for XBox/PS2/Gamecube so that practically any console gamer could play it and I'm pretty sure either of those systems could handle the graphics.
Guess I'll continue to wish in one hand and... um, nevermind...
JodyAnthony @ Jul 5th 2007 1:36PM
"which made Bart vs. Space Mutants all that more aggravating to play (damn you Museum level)"
wait, it was possible to actually get past the first level in bart vs the space mutants? I hated that game with a burning passion.
Anam @ Jul 5th 2007 1:52PM
@JodyAnthony
Yeah, Good Eats rocks. Who would have thought that cooking could be so damn entertaining? But personally, Mythbusters has to be my favorite.
I only watched one episode of American Dad, but I didn't like it at all. I used to hate Family Guy, but I started watching it more once I found out that Adam West was the mayor. And the show has now grown on me. I don't like the animation style for either of them though...
