Sorry Orenthol,

You may build it yourself to save money, but I build it myself to get a better product. There is always a chance I will save money, but that is usually never the case.

I do agree that this argument is a has a touch of the apples and oranges, but I'll try to explain my twisted logic.

For example, I'll never need integrated wireless in a desktop PC, nor will I need a 160 GB main HD (40-80GB for a master is more than enough - save your big drives for slaves or a server). I do not need a 24" widescreen monitor, and I definitely don't want their integrated video card. Also, keep your Antivirus, your AOL, and your internet connected diagnostic tools away from my machine. I'll choose the components and software I feel that I need.

Do I end up spending more this way? Usually. Do I get a better product that suits my needs? Definitely.

I feel a similar way about the PS3 and the 360. Do I need wireless connectiviy, a bigger hard drive (not upgradeable or swappable, I might add), and a HD disc player? At the time, no. In the future I may want to add these things, but I'll add those components as they suit my needs.

Also, I'm not denying that M$ wants to charge me for every little thing they can. They most certainly are. I don't buy downloadable content (apart from the a good arcade title), and most of the extra accessories are just plain flamboyant.

But I still stand by my statement about XBL being a good service. I gladly pay my $50 for it.

@Farseer - Don't you save money by building your own PC? Kinda like the PS3 where you get to pick your accessories instead of going to Sony for one.

As a PC builder, do you go to Dell or Compaq for your parts? Kinda like you have to go to Microsoft for 360 accessories?

Come on people. You all know why the 360 version is more. You've shown the world you're less than intelligent by paying for wallpapers (themes), screenshots(gaymer pics), map packs and peer to peer gaming. Are you really surprised that everyone wants to take advantage of you now? Everyone knows 360 gaymers are the dumbest of the dumb and are willing to pay for worthless shit.

You brought this kind of shat on yourselves. Enjoy the fruits of your stupidity!

@Sain

That's a good call. I guess that's the epitome of why my argument is like apples and oranges.

M$ does force you to buy their proprietary devices, but I'll play devil's advocate and say that this is also in the interest of tight gameplay (good controllers) and keeping cheaters away from XBL (profiles, HDs, and memory cards) as well as making money.

I have a better example, I think.

My better example (I think):

I'm working on implementing a multizone audio/video system into my house as I finish my basement. Two of these zones will be hosting HD monitors (component for the time being) and Dolby Digital (5.1 for the time being), and the other two zones will be purely stereo audio.

If you are unfamiliar with multizone setups, in a nutshell, I can have four HD sources connected (as well as additional audio sources) to one device (or stack of devices) and then play those sources through the device (or stack) simultaniously in different rooms - I could be playing the Wii in the basement, Watching a movie through the 360 in the living room, listening to a CD in the kitchen, and playing the radio on the deck (or any other combination).

There is an all-in-one receiver made by Denon that will allow me to do this, and it carries a price tag of $7,000. It offers HDMI upgrading and 7.1 channel sound in the 2 main zones, as well as a host of other features I really don't want or need.

Instead, I plan to buy a Multizone (4) HD controller, Multizone (4) Audio preamp from Xantech, and use my existing recievers as the 5.1 amplifiers. I will then buy a small amplifier for the 2 stereo zones and a nice in-wall LCD touchpad to control the 3 zones on the main level (the stack will be in the basement).

In the end, I do not get all the fancy extras the Denon has pre-installed, but I get just what I need for closer to $4500. Also, I have the ability to add additional components if my needs grow. I am not forced to buy everything (and the kitchen sink) right away, and can make choices as to where to spend my money and customize my system.

In the end I may pay more, but I do so at my leisure.

Sorry about the long post.

And yes, when I go with Xantech, I will be forced to get their proprietary IR communication equipment to control and expand my system. As long as it all works seamlessly together - than that is more than fine by me.

THE Xbox wireless stuff is proprietary so it doesn't get the economy of scale that Sony gets with Bluetooth. If the MS chip has a cost of goods of even a $3-4 per unit, then a retail price difference of $20 is pretty easy to understand.

From teh videos I have seen, the mike is definitely a wired mike so it should be cheap. Be nicer wireless, but what hte heck, it's not like you are really putting on a show. The drums are almost guaranteed to be wired since the cost of goods for all that plastic and sensors is going to be high and they are inherently immodible anyway. The guitar being wireless is great (I wonder it is is back compatible with GH2?) since you want to move around with it. All in all, I think this game is a must buy no matter the price.

In 50+ comments of xbox/ps3 flame wars, has no one bothered to comment on the fact that some rows are obviously whited out.

This is presumably for the "band pack" of 3 instruments, or else the wired version of the guitar controller. That information could be of significant interest... much more so than all of this Microsoft/Sony quibbling.

Hey Apples,

The other rows are just other games. That's the Price Change memo that gets sent out every so often to update the tags on items. I'm believe one of them was Enchanted Arms for the PS3. It was dropped from $40 to $20.
