Now comes word that Famitsu (via PS3 Center) has validated the rumors and that Namco Bandai has indeed quietly canceled a PS3 iteration in favor of rolling the Prince of All Cosmos onto the Wii. As we have yet to see the purported issue of Famitsu, we're still labeling this as rumor fodder.

anyhow.. to be completely honest.. even it seems that this is a good game.. and even thou it's not THE BEST thing for a company to skip the ps3, i have to say... there's NO WAY i would buy this game..
i had not heard anything about this game until they said it wasn't coming to the ps3.. after that, it rose everywhere, and people were saying is the best game ever.. i think that if katamari was still coming to the ps3 to this day i would not have heard anything about this game
anyhow they took the ps3 logo of the official site, so i guess that clears it.. it doesn't matter i wouldn't buy this game regardless..

yeah I understand that and thats fair enough. I guess I'm just bewildered by the amount of positive press this franchise gets ('cos, as I said, I hated these games).

Let me ask you something: I've only played We Love Katamari, so is there enough reason for me to pick up the original?
I've found myself not playing anything but the elephant level over and over, and I'm worried that the original game wouldn't have anything capable of topping it (but since you said that We Love Katamari is your least favorite, maybe I'm wrong).

I have been a giant fan of the Katamari series, and the reason you may have not heard of it is because it has sort of a cult following. You really should search around a bit before you accuse Joystiq of posting the same news twice. They wrote about the game's exisitince, and then about it coming to the 360 and PS3, but not the Wii. Now it looks like it's the other way around. I don't really see how that's the same thing.
and by the way, though Katamari has only a cult following it happens to be a favorite amongst gaming jounalists, so you will see reviews everywhere for it regardless of it appearing on the PS3 or not.

Katamari will fetch full price on Wii ($50) cause they can (ppl shelled out $50 for cooking mama).. while it will will be a budget game or XBL for 360 (cause its competing with non-minigames).

This is a loss for the ps3. It's more of a pr loss but anytime you claim that you're going to have 300+ games out for your system and then 2 weeks later companies are announcing they are canceling titles for your console in favor for another one is bad press.
Peter Moore is just loving this. He was the main man behing dreamcast in the u.s. for those who can remember. And I know Peter remember's alot of the dirty tricks Sony used to stifle and dreamcast and eventually put it under. Alot of these tricks of course were never documented but industry insiders can attest to them. (Threatening smaller retailers to make them only carry ps2's, sending memos that stores would only get ps2's if dreamcasts were displayed in the back of the store, etc) Back then the ps2 had more complicated and inferior hardware to the dreamcast but since the ps2 had a head start on the dc with a much larger installed user base the dc just couldn't keep up. Not to mention Sony had a more of the big titles exclusively. Like Madden and of course Grand Theft Auto. Things have changed dramatically. Peter is now the vp in charge of the 360 and you can see that he learned how to play with Sony from the past generation. Now the same way that titles were slowly getting canceled or passed over for the dreamcast in leiu of the ps2, the same is happening with the 360 and the ps3. And the wii actually is M$'s biggest ally. The wii appeals to a different audience of course than the 360. And I firmly feel that it will pass up the 360 in installed user base. But that's o.k. because there will always be a place for a traditional console with solid online play. There won't, however, be room for 2 traditional consoles. At least for most people's budget who enjoy games. Sony was too comfortable with the ps2's success which caused them to piddle around instead of trying to upgrade their hardware sooner. Then when they realized the 360 might just be a threat they tried to resort to the same propaganda that was used on the dreamcast. Showing cg videos and hype galore. (Remember the "emotion engine" was supposed to be used by terrorists to lauch attacks on unsuspecting countries. Yeah they said that. Google it if you don't believe me) I'm sure Sony would try the dirty tricks too but M$ has too much money and Bill & Company can be just as dirty if need be. All those antitrust lawsuits are proof of that. Then Sony had the nerve to release their system at $600. Then lied about not trying to use the ps3 to push their new media format. Now, not surprisingly, the ps3 isn't doing so hot and they're constantly in damage control mode to explain what is going wrong. Peter Moore is definitely laughing. He knows that payback can be a b****.

Ummm... WHAT?!? So apparently on the new release threads where I said The Darkness has interrupted my Forza 2 play, this just didn't register, huh? I didn't say 360 has nothing to play (haven't touched the Wii since Paper Mario), in fact it's quite the opposite.
Damn, I love how you people find every single message where I defend Sony yet conveniently forget when I talk about other games.

Okay, sheppy is a fanboy, but Fernando Rocker has absolutely no right to talk. I'm sorry Mr. Rocker, but you are one of the biggest tools on here (at least, out of the regulars).
Likewise, although I personally have no interest in the PS3 and don't agree with sheppy about it, he does try to have more points to his comments than many fanboys.

It's a shame it does not have the install base to have a lot of online multiplayer
then again after some guy teleports 1000 mines into your base and kamikazes a loaded missile frigate into your research vessel you probably won't feel like playing online.
Oh yeah let's not forget the emp + gravity well + stealth fighter combo.

But if they do end up putting it on more current consoles, I'd love to see them make it so there is a more gradual transition to a more zoomed out camera angle instead of having discrete moments when the camera zooms out.
