Rumors surfaced over the last couple of weeks about Beautiful Katamari rolling itself away from PlayStation 3 and towards Nintendo Wii. An Xbox 360 version, already weighted its own speculation, is the only confirmed version to be shown at next week's E3.
Now comes word that Famitsu (via PS3 Center) has validated the rumors and that Namco Bandai has indeed quietly canceled a PS3 iteration in favor of rolling the Prince of All Cosmos onto the Wii. As we have yet to see the purported issue of Famitsu, we're still labeling this as rumor fodder.
We've contacted Namco Bandai for a statement. In the meantime, take a stroll down memory lane with our recent b[ack]log on We Love Katamari.

You are mistaken. The DS prints money. The wii automatically beams money to nintendo's bank account.

But i've never found sheppy to be in bed with tobias (tehbias), at least not as much as others around here, his only fault is a lack of tolerance for all the asses around here
But this is good news, never got around to Katamari because i've never properly owned a Sony system...

Please provide the classic controller as a control option for the Wii. I think a motion control version would be nice, but the dual analog sticks of the PS2 versions really is the way to go...

It's interesting how there are so many diehard Nintendo fans and diehard Sony fans... but you don't see many diehard Microsoft fans. At least not on here.

No, they're here. They only rear their ugly heads when it comes time to bash Nintendo, though.
The 360 fanboys won't openly defend MS, though. Maybe Microsoft is just too evil?
Ahh, I love categorizing people!

Nah, I'm biased. Sony is my preferred of the three. Doesn't mean I don't buy games on the others.

Considering that the creator of the game wanted to stop making Katamari games after the FIRST one, I have not bothered with any of them since. Looks like I can continue to.
Seriously. Did we need more than one Katamari game? I think not. I especially don't see any reason to play a game in a series that the creator has said he doesn't really have interest in anymore. Let the dude go design playgrounds, already.

This is sort of like Ninja Gaiden Sigma coming to ps3; people who didn't play it on the ps2 will have a chance to play a prettier, shinier, princier version of the same thing other people got over a few years ago. It's a great game, but hasn't exactly changed a whole lot since it first showed up on the ps2.
Not saying that I wouldn't be happy to have some ps3 katamari, but it's not exactly the sort of title that is going to make/break a system.

Why Katamari would be better on PS3 than Wii:
The game was developed for 2 analog sticks. Unless you can "virtually roll a ball" with the motion sensors, motion sensors is NOT the way to go. Tilting is NOT a valid replacement of the rolling controls, becasue it takes away the aspect of rolling, replacing it with just moving.
The next step of controls over 2 analog sticks would be a trackball. Until we get one, 2 analog sticks is still the way to go. I would go as far to say that the original creator would agree with me.

Frankly, that only makes a little sense, but there are two things to consider.
first off, Wii has a classical controller that has dual joysticks. Totally feasible.
second of all, just treat the nunchuck and wiimote as if they were giant joysticks and you don't even need to use the classical controller.
third of all, the motion controls are even more feasable, since you can actually emulate ROLLING the ball, not just pushing it. Just use a circular motion in front of you, nunchuck and wiimote moving in same direction, in order to push. To turn, the nunchuck goes counter to the wiimote(down when the wiimote goes up, up when the wiimote goes down)
To actually rotate yourself around the ball, just tilt both wiimote and nunchuck in the desired direction. doing that boost thing can be done through moving the nunchuck in and out from each other.
I'm honestly not a huge fan of Katamari myself, but to say it wouldn't work well on the Wii is really nothing more than accusing the designer of the game of sucking, as it pretty much rests entirely on him whether it is actually done well or not.

The fact Namco has all but officially canned both the PS3 and Wii versions of the game stinks of the MS money hat. Call me a fanboy, tell me that's cliche, but what other explanation exists for both cancellations?
Unless this is an Assassin's Creed move.

1) So far, AFAIK, there's NO Wii non-download game which uses the classic controls for the main controls. Even SSBM uses the motion controls as one of the 4 feasable control systems.
2) There's a difference between pushing two objects (which has force feedback) forward, as opposed to mocing two objects in a null-feedback field. (the feedback being the natural tendency of the joysticks to reset their position)
3) Misintepretion of rolling a ball, and doing the rolling: you roll a ball by pushing, not cycling. Without the force feedback/friction, there's no sensation of actual pushing, which beats the purpose.
4) If you're just going to use the classic controls, there's no reason other than reproduction costs to transfer assets to the PS2/PS3. After all, they still have all the PS2 libraries necessary.

You ever see that crappy Episode One movie? Think podracing. You hold the nunchuck and remote straight up as if they are your throttles, and you tilt them in directions as if they are gigantic analog sticks. That is all. And you can use your left thumb on the analog stick for camera controls, and A and B for whatever else.
I don't even care about the game anymore. I just need the music to come out of my Wii.

Actually, it hasn't been confirmed if Brawl will use waggle or not. Just that Wii Remote + Nunchuk is a confirmed control mode (it may still only use buttons).
sheppy:
Really? You have a Sony bias? You always seemed like one of the more level-headed, unbiased people here.
(Seriously, that's not sarcasm)
Then again, I have a Nintendo bias, and still own all of Sega's systems, NeoGeo Pocket Color, FREAKIN' GAME.COM (was I stupid as a kid?), WonderSwan, PS and PS2, and will soon get PSP and 360. And I'll defend Sony when they're in the right (like that deal with the Manchester cathedral? Completely stupid, and they shouldn't have been sued).

"Hmm? How do you do smashes and dashes with just the Wii Remote?
If I get the chance to tell you, I will."
It's not the remote + nunchuck combo that is key here, it's the remote-only control system that should catch your attention. Considering that it's the only control system which hints that there's a unique system specific for smashes/dashes.

BulletToothTony Your kidding right? This game has been on the news as a top hit since PS2!!! I has consistantly been in most wanted list especially in Japan. But I guess if you see it and take a quick look at it and dont like you you would completely forget it. I tried the demo and filt like you. Maybe it can become addicting but I didnt give it a long enough of a chance for me to like it.
