Sony 'bringing home' E3 too, on PSN
Much like what Microsoft has been doing with the Bringing It Home campaign since last E3 (and again with this one), Sony has unveiled its initiative to provide coverage of next week's E3 summit to PlayStation 3 owners via the PlayStation Network.
The July 11 press conference will be available for download as well as unspecified "trailers, videos, and other editorial content," according to a GamesIndustry.biz report. Additionally, the official PlayStation blog will reportedly be updated alongside the show.

No demos? Regardless, this should be a good bandwidth test.
BNinjaC @ Jul 6th 2007 3:01PM
well, between PSN and Xbox Live I'm going to be doing alot of downloading during E3.
Looking forward but not sure the gf will be to pleased
GJM @ Jul 6th 2007 3:04PM
FINALLY. Good PS3 news.
sheppy @ Jul 6th 2007 3:09PM
Meh, I'll follow the blogsphere. Downloading a video where someone is trying like hell to convince you of the innovation in Pain doesn't sound cool in the slightest.
Uchendu Nwachukwu @ Jul 6th 2007 3:14PM
This was only expected. But yeay, the entire press conference in HD would be something Sony has over Microsoft; I doubt MS will post its entire conference online in HD. MS' conference will either be highlights-only or in SD.
But then again, you never know.
Negativecool @ Jul 6th 2007 3:15PM
"FINALLY. Good PS3 news."
Ugh...
I'm just going to go ahead and assume you haven't seen the news that the PS3's price has been officially/unofficially cut by $100.
BulletToothTony @ Jul 6th 2007 3:19PM
that's cool.. i figured that what they meant with that new psn store picture..
Stef Geiger @ Jul 6th 2007 3:20PM
I'm betting this is specifically why they released an otherwise useless firmware update last week - If they encode those videos in High Profile, they'll save a good chunk of bandwidth. Think about it. An update like that they may as well have thrown into the next significant firmware upgrade.
Dave @ Jul 6th 2007 3:21PM
Considering the meager list of upcoming PS3 titles, you'd think Sony would want to downplay the event.
Vidikron @ Jul 6th 2007 3:25PM
@9
WTF? The upcoming list is hardly meager. How often do we have to list the titles? Seriously....
Phranctoast @ Jul 6th 2007 3:28PM
really dave?????? really?
Dave @ Jul 6th 2007 3:31PM
Nah. I was just messing with you guys.
CaptNink @ Jul 6th 2007 3:36PM
It's great that companies are bringing these events to the average joe. I hope this is a trend that continues for a long time.
GodisaMyth @ Jul 6th 2007 3:37PM
Dave,
You want meager? Get the Nintendo console with waggle. In it you will get mini-game after mini-game, Mario and pals, and more mini-games.
This must be what you want. It is obvious that you have no interest in...
Lair
LBP
MGS4
Warhawk
Home
R&C
Drake
Killzone
Pain
White Knight Story
Socom
FF 13
GT5
Yah, I can see why you say the PS3 has such a meager list of upcoming games to choose from.
Mini-games and Mario....sittin' in a tree, waggle waggle
Doug Kaplan @ Jul 6th 2007 3:37PM
Haha, Dave got scared of anonymous internet bullies and took his "diss" back and pretended he was being sarcastic.
AssemblyLineHuman @ Jul 6th 2007 3:38PM
OmgZ sONY is coping microsoftt hey sonny y dont u get ur own ideas for 1ce
>_> And by that I mean, it's a pretty nifty way to market your software, I suppose. If I could afford a PS3 or 360, it might be a little more useful to me, though.
Here's to hoping for some LittleBigPlanet stuff?
sheppy @ Jul 6th 2007 3:45PM
IXNAY ON THE LISTAY!
It's annoying, seriously.
Rubix42 @ Jul 6th 2007 3:46PM
@15---Wow, just wow. Most of those titles aren't coming until 2008, which is 6 months or more away.
Anyways, I think this is good news. I did a ton of D'Ling off the 360 last year, and hopefully Sony does just as good of a job. It would be nice to have some new PSN stuff to DL.
tituspullo @ Jul 6th 2007 3:46PM
great some good news for the ps3 camp.
Dave @ Jul 6th 2007 3:53PM
@Doug Kaplan
I'm not scared. Meet me in the playground after school, kid.
Lord Chako @ Jul 6th 2007 4:00PM

It's "istlay", not "listay".
Lord Chako @ Jul 6th 2007 4:03PM
Pig Latin, dude.
sheppy @ Jul 6th 2007 4:08PM
I care not of this language of pork! All I want to hear from them is the sweet sizzle of bacon on a griddle.
steve Johnson @ Jul 6th 2007 4:12PM
Soooo...I guess I'll be able to do this too on my Wii for Nintendo's press event. Right?
RIGHT?!
(sound of crickets)
Mr Khan @ Jul 6th 2007 4:21PM
@ steve johnson
No downloads, but you'll have your Opera Browser if you so feel inclined
I know i'll be watching any E3 video feeds on my Wii, my TV's stereos run rings around my PC speakers...
The news, of course, will come from the PC internets
GJM @ Jul 6th 2007 4:39PM
"I'm just going to go ahead and assume you haven't seen the news that the PS3's price has been officially/unofficially cut by $100."
Yeah, I heard. Doesn't help me much now that I already paid $600. And it doesn't help Sony that it is still $300 more than what most people will pay for it. Until the price is $200 or less I wont consider it good news.
Hoffer @ Jul 6th 2007 4:44PM
Is Sony going to up the bandwidth on the PSN Store? It takes me hours to download a gig off there. That same gig takes me minutes off Xbox Live.
oldest gamer @ Jul 6th 2007 4:56PM
This was a given. Thankfully Sony is again catering to us gamers. Sony's gamer cred is rising back to their historical level. History does and will repeat. On sadder notes, the 360 has finally been labeled defective. I suppose it's now too easy / obvious to take shots at poor old 'ring of fire / death box'. Sony is there for ya guys. Good times indeed now and ahead.
BNinjaC @ Jul 6th 2007 4:56PM
@ Hoffer
It's the other way round for me. I've my 360 wired and PS3 on wireless and PSN still flies while XL crawls.
Maybe it's just your location, anyway lets hope they both boost their services because they are going to take some hit.
Roll on E3!
EdgeofBlade @ Jul 6th 2007 5:12PM
Sorry Sony, but you can hardly call this "initiative" if Microsoft did it first. Sony is on the cutting edge of nothing but tooting it's own horn and stringing out consumers.
I'm sure Sony needs this. Their entire marketing strategy is "We will have good games... some day." What better way to do that than show more pre-rendered tripe piped directly to your PS3.
manic @ Jul 6th 2007 5:23PM
@30 aka Edgeofblade
Lair
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Heavenly Sword
Warhawk
Metal Gear Solid 4
Final Fantasy
Ratchet and Clank
Some of the games listed above which have had plenty of footage to prove their graphical prowess.
When is the last time Sony showed pre-rendered videos? E3'05. Heck, Sony aren't the only company guilty - EA have done it, MICROSOFT HAVE DONE IT FOR HALO 3. Infact, Bill Gates said that Halo 3 trailer (with those two kids lying on the grass) WAS AN INGAME VIDEO. Why hasn't anyone said anything about that? Is it because everyone loves Microsoft and hates Sony?
Talk about double standards!
And yes, William Gates did say that. He said it was an in-game video when it was clearly pre-rendered.
As for Killzone 2, which I presume you will mention in your next post, yes it is pre-rendered but who knows how the real thing looks like? For all we know the graphics may be mind blowing.
CaptNink @ Jul 6th 2007 5:31PM
@ oldest gamer
"On sadder notes, the 360 has finally been labeled defective."
Don't go shedding any crocodile tears just yet, friend.
DarknessRises @ Jul 6th 2007 5:37PM
As a matter of fact, Gates said it would be pre-rendered before it even aired.
Also, take a look at your list, and tell me how many of those games have been announced for over a year and a half and still no new gameplay or anything, also how many of those that are franchises besides MGS and FF were major players anyway. Stop with your flamboyant proclamations of greatness. They are tired.
Digi Smalls @ Jul 6th 2007 5:38PM
oldest gamer, care to explain how Sony's "gamer cred" is rising? ask Virtua Fighter or Madden fans about Sony's "gamer cred".
apparently even Sony admits the PS3 isn't worth the $600 you and i paid for it.
.
manic @ Jul 6th 2007 5:41PM
As a matter of fact, he did say it. I'll find you the link to the Youtube video tomorrow.
STILL NO NEW GAMEPLAY OR ANYTHING? Where have you been hiding, under a rock? There has been PLENTY OF NEW footage for Lair and Heavenly Sword. Uncharted was only shown at Sony's GDC 07 a few months ago. There has been a public beta of Warhawk, with new screenshots etc. Ratchet and Clank was shown at GDC 07.
Monty Burns @ Jul 6th 2007 5:53PM
There is nothing on the PS3 that is upcoming that is worth $600.
Lair-Boring
MGS4-Splinter Cell is way better, also I want to play a game not watch an 8 hour movie with 10 min. of game play in between.
Killzone2- Wasn't Killzone1 supposed to be the Halo killer it couldn't even compete with HaloCE
Home-A distration to keep PS3 fanboys from realizing that the PS3 has no games
Socom- A crappy version of GRAW and GRAW2
FF13- Wow a game were you hit the A button for almost 40hrs.
GT5-Foroza2 and PGR is better and doesn't the ads for GT5 use PGR screens
I'm happy with my Nintendo waggle and my 360. So as of now there is no reason for me to pick up an overpriced game system.
Vidikron @ Jul 6th 2007 6:02PM
@36
One, yes, no one game is worth the $600, but no one game is worth the $250 price tag of the Wii, so what's your point? Two, your reasoning on most of those is utterly stupid. Three, you left off some of best titles like Warhawk, Ratchet & Clank, Folks Soul, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Hot Shots Golf 5, and LittleBigPlanet... but I guess you had to leave those off because your fanboy crap wouldn't make any sense otherwise, right?
Monty Burns @ Jul 6th 2007 6:18PM
@Vidkron
I left those off because I havn't seen enough of those games to comment on them. R&C in the past has been good series of games maybe it will still be good but not worth the $600 it cost to get a PS3. I also own a PS1, PS2 and PSP so don't call me a fanboy. Sony dropped the ball on the PS3 that why Krazy Ken was fired. So until Sony drops the price and release good games Sony can forget about getting my money on their Bluray media center.
mccomber @ Jul 6th 2007 6:36PM
"There is nothing on the PS3 that is upcoming that is worth $600

Spitkicker did a much better job of trashing this list yesterday. Sorry son, but there isn't anything more coming to the 360 in exclusives that really trumps what Sony has offered, whether you want to admit it or not. Mass Effect, BioShock, Halo 3 and... yeah, that's about all I can think of worth looking forward to right now. I'll even give you your choice of VF5 or Katamari as a gimmie as well..
Spongie @ Jul 6th 2007 6:59PM
Its a good thing PS3 owners have people like Monty Burns to tell them whats good and whats not...

If I were you, I'd be providing sources for the horse shit that you're spewing or STFU. MS came out and said the Halo3 trailer was pre-rendered before it was even released dumbass.
BTW, where exactly ARE all these games? Certainly not being played, some until next spring. Enjoy the wait for GT5. Judging for the lack of sweat on the MS side over KZ2 being shown during their keynote, I'd have to predict that Sony is about the get it's collective ass handed to it again this year.
el tonot @ Jul 6th 2007 7:52PM

Wow you must work for Sony since no one in public has played GT5 and can give a review of its nex-gen incarnation!!!!!!!!!

Metal Gear Solid 4 and Killzone 2 trailers PLEASE! woooooo!! That would make my month.
Covarr @ Jul 6th 2007 9:09PM
Sony lets people download E3. All fine and dandy until you realize that it's gonna be censored not to have Wii/360/DS news or trailers. To get the real thing, you gotta go online.

Sorry, nice try, but he didn't say that. In fact, Bungie said, numerous times, before and after it was released, that it was CG.
tituspullo @ Jul 7th 2007 12:04AM
huh i always heard the h3 tv spot it was pre-rendered . they didn't lie to the good folks like the killzone crowd did. even going so far as to give it first person perspective. now that's pretty crappy.
Tom @ Jul 7th 2007 1:27AM
Hey if you stop and consider that for $600 bucks you got a computer, a game system, a cd and a Blue ray disc player (almost 1000$) bucks by itself. I'd say everyone pretty much got what they paid for and then some! also for myself, I own about $4000 bucks worth of software for ps1 and ps2 not to mention all the controllers and stuff the price point of 5 or 6 hundred bucks becomes inconsequential to me. I am also sick and tired of all the comparisons, PS3, Wii etc... especially all the shitheads comparing their 2000 or 3000 + PC rigs to what you get for 600$. These are the same people who would compare their Ferrari to your Ford Taurus (AS IF THERE WAS ANY COMPARISON!)
Phranctoast @ Jul 7th 2007 7:43AM
@46 Juicehandy
why would Sony's keynote be released on XBL?
