Today's most standup video: CliffyB, the comedian
You know the old saying: game designers always want to be comedians, and comedians always want to be game designers. As part of DSI Comedy Theater, Gears of War creator CliffyB provided humorous anecdotes on his childhood and what drove him to the Nintendo World Championship. The troupe provides performance inspired by CliffyB's stories. We don't want to spoil any of it, so go on and check it out yourself. Video embedded after the break.

I saw him over at the Kennedy Center Video Games Live.
He's still the prettiest princess in gaming, by far. He's a shockingly attractive man in person. And man, WOULD I EVER!

Wow lawrence, where to begin with your post.
First, you need to seriously work on your grammar. It's horrid. This isn't the first post of yours that I have read that is almost completely incomprehensible as to what point you are making.
Second, to completely trash Cliffy B and Epic for A)the graphics created for Gears of War and the Unreal 3 engine that SEVERAL companies have bought the rights to use as their graphical engine shows complete ignorane on your part and B) I will agree that GoW's single player could be better, but to say multiplayer in a game is worthless, then you're obviously missing out on the most fun aspect of games; TO PLAY WITH OTHERS.
Counterstrike, Halo 2, and Gears of War's, and to a higher extent MMORPG's like WoW and RTS games like Starcraft (which is still played highly almost 10 years after its release), have shown that the longevity in multiplayer games is far more important to the masses than a single player experience. Just look at the amount of hours logged into those games compared to how long it took to beat Zelda. Single player immerses you into the game, multiplayer makes the game infinite.

Holy mother of God, you have kids Lawrence? Children are our future, and I'm now scared shitless.
J44xm @ Jul 6th 2007 1:58AM
Couldn't get through the first minute. Too annoying.
Mr Paul James @ Jul 6th 2007 2:07AM
@5
Ironic you call him an idiot when you don't even know how to use Grammar. Now reading your post about 3 times, I think you're saying how he shits on Nintendo? Can't be 100% sure.
Well first off yes, Gears of War is a stunning title to look at, no one has denied that. But what isn't often mentioned is how tight the game play is. It plays brilliantly, and the story isn't actually that bad, about average really.
You say he can't develop games, I'd like to see you do better. Are you just pissed because you didn't get a 360 and don't have a system powerful enough to run the unreal 3 engine? You know, that engine that quite a few games have adopted?
You broke your copy when you got bored of the online? Is that before or after the new map packs and online modes. Oh wait your still calling him stupid, after you broke a game because you were bored of it? You're a moron, wouldn't be surprised in the SLIGHTEST if you hadn't even played the damn game.
How old are your kids anyway? I mean Gears is an 18. Someone's a shit parent...
You know what your whole posts just bullshit lol. Can't be arsed to point anymore crap out from the ramblings of a blatant Nintendo fanboy
Raikage @ Jul 6th 2007 2:15AM
I thought it was funny... especially the Powerglove and Advantage parts... maybe I'm alone...?
If you like Nintendo so much, why don't you make a game for the Wii already?!
Or DS...
lawrence, I read your posts just because I get a laugh trying to decipher them.
RedJoggindSuit @ Jul 6th 2007 3:14AM
OMG i just LOLed for like ten minutes...
oh not at the video though
Rubang B @ Jul 6th 2007 4:02AM
The arguments in this thread are way funnier than that boring video.
And CliffyB calls himself CliffyB, he wants to be the next Bud "Grandmaster B" Bundy. A real winner.
Josh L. @ Jul 6th 2007 4:33AM
You're right, we should start calling him Clifford Bleszinski from now on. Much easier. Also, why do people always do this? Someone like lawrence makes a post, which is pretty obviously just made to provoke people, and people still respond.
Anyway, yeah, they should get a Wii team after UT3 is out.
Blackmanfu @ Jul 6th 2007 4:45AM
for an improv... uuhhh... host... uuuhh.... he sure.... uuuhhhhh... isn't very... uuuhhhhh... articulate.
and not a fan of the 4 constant camera angles.. but more power to cliffy b!
Shiro @ Jul 6th 2007 5:00AM
When CliffyB stopped talking, I stopped listening. Not because he's all I care about, but seriously, that "comedy troupe" sucks. I dunno what kinda weed the audience was smoking before they started laughing so hard, but whatever. Improv has almost never been funny. Outside of "Whose Line", anyways. And even that is staged a quarter of the time.
Zsavior @ Jul 6th 2007 5:11AM
I am going to ignore lawrence and instead comment on something Mr Paul james said. The idea that multiplayer makes a game memorable is not very true. If you are a fan of those types of games it makes a game fun, but I am not and people I play with aren't either. The Single player aspect of a game is being ignored because single player aspect of the games are being done poorly, for multiplayer designs.
What is my point, I know somebody that just dled an emulator to play Chrono Trigger, why, because he enjoyed the game. Shooters don't interest him thus a ten way death match isn't something that really keeps him glued. I think multiplayer is great, but if a game can do an immersive single player game with story and game mechanics that are addictive it will have great replay value.
Sadly companies aren't doing this, no extra characters, no secret endings, no multiple endings, and thus the single player part of games have become stagnant. The flip side is I am never going to be into a GOW type games so multiplayer is really lost on me. So I disagree that a Single player game can't be just as high or even high for replay value as a game with multiplayer options, it all depends on the game maker.

nintendo fanboys, ruining the english language one day at a time
Freeze @ Jul 6th 2007 9:16AM
@15.
That was funny. "Grandmaster B" Bundy. That was a good episode. I also like the episode when his sister bought home her boyfriend and he thought Bud was the troll underneath the house and Bud got upset then stepped his 2 feet back and forth in the air in the same spot like a troll.
jay @ Jul 6th 2007 9:17AM
They really do call anyone a comedian these days.
On a completely different note about Lawrence, "they hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool" sang a Mr. Lennon.
jay @ Jul 6th 2007 9:19AM
Deaftly, try that with correct capitalisation next time.
samfish @ Jul 6th 2007 9:23AM
So how exactly DOES one "fuck grammar"?
I suspect you stick your penis in the loop of the 'g', or if you're a woman, just use the curve on that last 'r'...but you seem to know a bit about this, lawrence;
Let me know so I can get down to the business of making sweet, sweet love to your grammar!
Freeze @ Jul 6th 2007 9:30AM
His sister told the boyfriend that Bud is the troll that lives underneath the house. He was like ahhhh. so you're the one...(don't remember the rest)but was funny.
Chaz @ Jul 6th 2007 10:33AM
This comes from a fellow Korean, lawrence: You're a fucking idiot.
Learn English before you comment here.

First off Improv is rarely if ever is staged. In fact many troupes frown heavily on any staging at all. Usually the only real thing that is staged is the games and the order they play in simply for simplicity and not standing up there forever trying to figure out what games to play.
Second, The audience didn't necessarily have to be high to find this funny it's what I like to call Active Participation in the Performance. In Theatre if you're any good then you have the ability to convince the audience that anything is dramatic or funny. Especially during Improv because usually sure it really isn't that funny but if the players are good enough they could make you believe it was funny. This however is all moot if you have a sourpuss like you in the audience. If you're going to an Improv game at least try to have fun because that's what it's all about.
Third, go find some real Improv troupe. There are many big nationally acclaimed, regionally acclaimed, and hell even some high school troupes that could pull more comedy out of their heads then you could ever think about.

Hey people if you see the post`s, there is not "Lawrence" post any more, i think he took his comments out of the list ha,ha i dont know what is in his mind, but i think he regret it from his attitude........
That deaf guy @ Jul 6th 2007 12:57PM
Gotta love it when posts turn into a full blown grammar war. I suppose thats the most insulting a person can be when it comes to the internet.
Negativecool @ Jul 6th 2007 2:53PM
After trying to watch it, I kind of want to apologize to Cliffy on behalf of those improv morons. Cliffy raised the cool points in that room to level 70. It almost felt like Cliffy was doing the Special Olympics or some charity event were he has to interact with the retarded.
Cliffy > Ugh……...UGH…..AGH...UGH Improv guy.
DSI @ Jul 7th 2007 1:54PM
It was awesome to have Cliff as a guest. DSI should have the other 3 clips up late next week. His stories get more personal, family and travel-related (but most revolve around the 'shit' Cliffy B has had to deal with). It was definitely informal, but... AHHHH... hilarious.
