"(BTW, I'm so god damn tired of people using "forced" as an argument, like the PS3 "forces" you into buying a blu ray player. Nothing forces you to do anything but a rapist! End rant)"

You're being "forced" to buy a Blu-Ray player, a prohibitively expensive and unproven technology. Without it, you would likely be paying significantly less for a PS3 right now.

That said, I never bought into that argument, either, to be honest. I'm no fan of Sony's, but it makes sense to me to keep increasing storage capacity...whether it's disc or cartridge based or HDD based.

On the other hand, it's not exactly a secret at this point that Sony is also trying to use the PS3 to get Blu-Ray players into people's homes. In that regard, I understand why some people are pissed about it. Sony is essentially making you pay more for features you're never going to use; and those features are an integral part of the system...it's not like they can just leave them out in a cheaper model.
So you're "forced" to either pay more money for something you don't want...or wait until the price drops down enough to the point where it no longer matters.

In that regard, it's kind of a question of 'Who do you support more? – Consumers or corporations?'

But like I said, ignoring the costs aside, using larger capacity discs only makes sense, as it pertains to gaming.

@ BNinjaC

Well it happened to Sega (such a sad day) and nintendo so I think its good to see Nintendo back and MS strong this Gen.

As for inovation, I do not want Sony to win this Gen because of the price they are charging. Games should be mass market and if Sony was to win again then that would suck for gammers as a whole. It would mean less inovation IMO because in the future studios would leave Nintendo like they did in the past and all you would be forced to buy the PS4. No I think Sony had a great ride like Nintendo did way back when. Its time for Ninty and MS this time this is their Generation.

The way I see it console wise is this

Atari 2600: introduced the masses to simple but fun gaming

Nintendo: Introduced the masses to characters and worlds(enviroments)

Sega: Introduced us to driving and 3D

Playstation: introduced the masses to RPG and music games

360: will introduce the masses to online gaming

Wii: will introduce family fun again like the Atari 2600

Gamimng has to evolve

I guess the question I'd pose to those interested in the 80GB model is why don't you hold out for the 120GB model? And anyone interested in that, why don't you hold out for the 160GB model with a quiet BD drive? And anyone interested in that, why don't you hold out for...

There's a reason consoles shouldn't be upgradeable.

Sheppy-
I know now that you are the dumbest mother fucker alive.

You're ranting about something that has NOTHING to do with what I'm talking about.

"duh, what are you talking about negativecool, they still gots dah cheaper $500 one to buy, and teh $600 is uber cool now, duh"

Heads up stupid.
Current state of events:
PS3 is lagging behind everything.
Wii>PS3
Why?
$600 is why...$500 is why. TOO MUCH MONEY IS WHY!
The FASTER they lose the high price the better.

Sheppy, you befuddle me with this narrow assumption that the consumer's choice only lies between the $500 and the $600 model.
See, I'm smart enough to look beyond that and realize that the choice is actually between the
1)Wii @ $250, 2)the 360 and all its damn SKU's, and 3)the PS3 with all its damn SKU's. In order for the consumer to choose between the $500 and the $600 model, they FIRST have to choose PS3, which is not and will not happen if they don’t lower the price to compete.

I think people need to cool it with unnecessary insults. Get laid? Come on, sheppy, that's not even relevant in any way. Nobody who posts on a video game blog gets to tell anyone else they need to get laid. And the whole mud slinging thing merely because someone disagrees with you? I am so glad I don't live in North America anymore if this is still how people behave. I long for the times when if you disliked a man, you walked ten paces away from each other, turned around, and fired a pistol. Problem solved. Or for gamers, a quick 1 frag deathmatch.

I wouldn't have an issue following your logic if you weren't consistantly revising it.

Here is your quote.

"$600 = Sticker shock! = PS3 will continue to get trounced by the Wii."

There it is. You equate the only choice to the consumer with PS3 is the $600 price tag. Not $500, $600. The price will come down eventually. Sony isn't going to announce PS3 for $100 at E3. Isn't fucking happening. Period. So why are you on about a next gen console needing to be comparatively priced with what is essentially Gamecube 2.0? Deny it all you want, then drag out a spec sheet. Hard to deny.

Obviously Wii will be the sames leader among the mass market because, unlike the other two, Nintendo is the closest to the mass market price tag of $200. So yes, Wii will continue to trounce PS3 sales. Congrats. You put logical thought together into a reasonable assumption.

But your statement is the same as saying "Dodge Viper will never outsell Ford Focus." Well no shit, not everyone can afford or even see the value in a Viper. Nintendo has used the price point to position themselves into the mainstream approachable price range. Both Microsoft and Sony have work to do to get to that point. It's not accomplishable hardware wise. But then again, you never expect a dealership to give you a Viper for $12,000 either.

All three are toys. Period. Non-essential items. And the cheaper those non-essential items are, the more mass appeal they'll accomplish. But Sony cannot afford mass market pricing so they drop what they can and offer a more expensive alternative to get some extra money.

Their pyramid scheme is soo evil....

Wow they finally get it that they are too expensive yet they are still releasing another model for more money for just 20GB more and a pack in game. Just stupid. Why?
To sell through the 60GB model then discontinue it like the 20GB and bolster the sagging sales. Tack on 5 free Blu-ray movies makes this such a desperate please buy our system plea.
I will still pass Sony for now.

This is a terrible strategy. They didn't cut the price!! They increased the HDD size!! It probably cost all of $10 to upgrade the drive size!!

The same problem still exists: you can't get a PS3 for under $500!! THE POINT OF A PRICE CUT IS TO CUT THE PRICE!!

But your statement is the same as saying "Dodge Viper will never outsell Ford Focus."

You have the worst comparisons in the world. Dodge vipers are for the rich and elite or the stupid. Does the name "Playstation" sound elitist to you?
And you're now comparing the Viper to the PS3? If Sony had the same business model as Dodge with the Viper they would price it at $2,000, never take a loss on any console sold, and not lowered the price until next years model with 500 horse power reached the market. On top of that, Viper doesn't compete with Focuses anyways dumbshit. The viper crowd has always been 5 steps above the Corvette crowd. Oh my god the list goes on about how bad your comparisons are, but I just don't care about explaining to an idiot about why he is an idiot.

My logic hasn't changed. I "consistantly"(you mean consistently) have to revise it because it consistently hasn't sunken into your thick skull and I have to keep trying to explain it to you in different ways, hoping you'll catch on to ONE of them...still eludes you.

Just because Sony has created a newer sku which ONLY offers 20GB more space, nothing more spec wise....makes the 60GB seem inferior? Come on people....you can easily upgrade the HDD yourself.....you can add a lot more space by doing it yourself. Sony is not forcing people to go with the 80GB now are they?

I swear people just love to complain.

Dude, do you realize how completely limited your insult was? You assume because there was an unnecessary flame on the internet, it's obviously a product of a North American. Way to think it out. Because outside of NA, no one ever insults another person whatsoever. It's simple impossible. This is an North America only problem like Paris Hilton and ManBearPig. And then you advocate a simple insult should result in a gunslinger style showdown leaving one of us dead.... wow. I don't know quite what to say to that.

@NegativeCool

My analogy sucks because I didn't stumble across the magic scale you'd understand? Okay....

Fine, let's just put it this way. iDog versus Aibo. Easy enough. One, everyone can afford, the other, not so much. Both are useless trinkets. And anything outside the necessary requirements for living is, in facts, a luxury item. Do I expect the PS3 to be a mass market item for $500? No. Never said that. Considering the device and features, it is a luxury item. After all, majority of it's functionality pertains almost exclusively to HDTVs, another high priced item. Will sales ever compared to the Wii, not bloodly likely.

HOWEVER, what is the alternative? PS3 drops to $200 immediately, loses the company too much money, and support of the console is ultimately pulled in favor of turning third party developer? And for what? So they could undercut the Wiis price?

I know the PS3 is expensive. Search all over the internet. Majority of the world agrees with you. Until PS3 drops even more, sales will still be slow. And if the PS3 is too expensive for you, you don't HAVE to buy it. Wait. Hell, by the time it becomes affordable to the mass market, Greatest Hits lineup will drop a ton of games to a cheaper price. But the problem is, with the PS3 specs, Sony has to be completely commited to the console. They don't HAVE the option of making a cheaper version now, merely to constantly drop this version and weather the storm. And if weathering the storm means ending up in third place... last time I checked Nintendo made hella bank on first party software. Sony is a very good developer and even if no one else will play with them, they could still drop their own games. And when PS4 comes out, lesson learned.

I mean, hell, ask Howard Stringer how he felt about the $600 Playstation...
