from an item posted at the end of march...

"Microsoft recently dropped its June 2007 sales estimate from 15 million to 12 million.

Microsoft had announced the 15 million goal in November 2006 to distract attention away from the other consoles that were just being released. It met its earlier goal of 10 million by the end of 2006 by stuffing the channel with unsold inventory.

That move didn’t help to actually sell units; Microsoft’s SEC filings report that at the beginning of October, the company had only sold 5 million 360s.

That means that half of the world's 360s were sitting in retail shelves this holiday season, and a significant amount still are. That has pressed Microsoft to dramatically slow new shipments until the channel clears out excess inventory."

Wow. Just think about that for a second. 6 million copies of Halo 3. Thats 6 Mil at $60 a piece = 360 million. The game may have cost MS 20M to 25M to develop. That doesnt even include merchandising or the Legendary packs etc. I'd say that is pretty mother f-in impressive. Free sodas in the Bungie studios vending machines! lol and to think I work at the biggest bank in the world and they charge me 1.25$ for a 20oz soda. I'm going to go cry now.

I thought they were already using 65nm chips. Doesn't the Elite use them?

Konny,

You check you spelling. ;) You can be a blatant fanboy, and I understand you will never do so with good arguments or reasonable posts. But at least do it with good grammar. It is good practice for being successful in life.

I don't know

With a $1 billion bill coming, you would think they would want to make some money for a while, especially given that they've got a season coming where they are guaranteed to move many units

I'd say spring would be the sweet spot, introduce 65nm processors then, then lower the Elite to $400 and Premium to $300

but kill the Core, its an embarassment

Why are Microsoft and Sony's price cuts different?

Microsoft's make their system more affordable.

Sony's make their system slightly less fucking expensive.

They are doing it at the perfect time, to knock wind right out of Sony's sales(get it that is a pun.) Seriously if you were MS you have to attack sony Nintendo doesn't go for the same market as you, you can always tackle them at the high end gaming frontier but Sony, letting them get a foot in the door is just a bad idea.

I don't blame MS for lowering the price I would have to, why not get those last hold outs looking for a new system. Watch Sony squirm, as the customer chooses their pocket book each time. Especially since the Iphone has dropped, if you are looking to have both gaming and techno-fad all in one swoop but getting that buyers remorse, Xbox 360 at and even cheaper price looks super sweet.

But the real kick will be if a Nintendo decided to follow suit. That is when the real problem begins.

It makes me wonder where Nintendo fits into this. It does have a kind of strange position of both having the cheapest console on the market and being in the best position to reduce its console's price...

Nope, the elite is pretty much the same internal components as the Premium.

That's how you know that the PS3 is dominant... when PS3 gets a price cut competitors follow. A 360 price cut won't really do anything at this point... might as well do after Halo 3 comes out. Plus... the price drop for the PS3 might not even be effective enough to make MS feel threatened.

I think tomorrow night we might hear about a price drop. the 65nm chips been in production since may and the holiday season is just around the corner. So I think the price drop is just in time for a big 360 push this fall and holiday season. and who know we might get a halo 3 special edition in september.

Now is a perfect time for a price drop; steal some of Sony's "thunder." For those saying they should keep the price up for Halo 3, I think most of the people who want an Xbox mainly for Halo 3 have already got one. Those on the fence may be convinced to pick one up with a price drop. Especially with stuff like Bioshock on the way.

Oh,Bioshock. *grabby hands*
