Wow, this is a tough week for video games. Think about this though: If Project Sylpheed wasn't coming out, this could have ended up as "New games this week: Smash Court Tennis 3 edition". Yikes. If you're astoundingly bored or a glutton for punishment, there's sort of more after the break.
Yeah, I liked the concept for this game. I haven't played a decent space shooter since X-wing Alliance. But this game is just way to damn busy, plus the framerate in the demo suffered ever so slightly and caused slight motion sickness.
Those who want an RPG and are planning to buy Riviera: be aware of what you're getting.
It's "level"-based, in that you go to one area, fight some guys, fight the boss, then return to a town, where you can talk to a few people (but not accomplish much), then go on to the next dungeon/level/map/whatever. Think Valkyrie Profile, but without as much strategy or focus on timing. It's turn based, but I'd call it "RPG Lite". Don't expect a deep story or lots of character development -- it keeps score of your interaction with your companions (you're a guy; all the secondary characters are girls) and gives you a different ending depending on who likes you most. That's about it.
I played the GBA one to the last level, then something shiny came along and stole my attention. I may get back to it one day, but I wouldn't bet on it.
