Square Enix unveils new release dates with E3 2007 lineup
What do you do with a shrunken E3 floor space? Only have playable portable games, of course! Square Enix has unveiled its lineup for this week's E3 2007 summit. Of the seven, we're looking at three Final Fantasies, two Dragon Quests, and an innumerable amount of androgynous protagonists. Release dates were also revealed for most of the titles (Dragon Quest Wii notwithstanding). The playable titles include:
- Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker (DS; November 6)
- Heroes of Mana (DS; August 14)
- Final Fantasy II (PSP; July 24)
- Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions (PSP; October 9)
- Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings (DS; November 20)
- Front Mission (DS; October 23)
- Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors (Wii)
- Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates (DS; Spring 2008)
- Final Fantasy XI: Wings of the Goddess (PS2, Xbox 360, PC; Winter 2007)

I'm interested in how the reviews turn out for Heroes of Mana. The DS really needs some good strategy games, so it's nice to see FFXII: Revenant Wings and Front Mission 1st coming out.
I'm interested in DQM: Joker, too, and I want to see if the slowdown issues have been solved in FFT PSP for the North American release, even though the localization team said it was out of their hands.
All in all, it looks pretty good to me. :)

Hmm...no date for FFTA2, interesting. The only game off this list I'm interested in is Front Mission...btw where's Its a Wonderful World? I was hoping to see something about that at E3.

AWW COME ON!!! NO CRISIS CORE OR DISSIDIA? Once again, it looks like Square Enix is saving the best for last at TGS. Ohh well.

Sweet to see DQ Monsters Joker finally hitting stateside, that game has basically low-end PSP graphics
but why don't they have a date for the DQ Swords game yet?!!?
That is definitely one of the more unique titles coming

There's a whole lot of Nintendo on that list and a real lack of anything Next-Gen..
Square made the Playstation what it is when they jumped with FF7 from Nintendo. Can they unmake Sony by going back to Nintendo?

Wait a minute...Final Fantasy XI: Wings of the Goddess (PS2, Xbox 360, PC; Winter 2007)? No PS3 or Wii? Is it me or does that seem off? Either the PS2 version will be shoehorned or the 360 version will be a weak upgrade.
The lack of PS3 titles has got to be hurting Sony a little. Nice to see the PSP get some love, I suppose.
And bring on the DragonQuests and Front Mission! Front Mission seems like a perfect fit for the DS.

Final Fantasy XI: Wings of the Goddess is an expansion to Final Fantasy XI. Why would they release it for the PS3 or Wii when the game itself is not on those system.

Hey, Front Mission! A Square title worth a damn!
rinks @ Jul 9th 2007 4:48PM
I can't even pretend to keep their releases straight any more.
Final Fantasy Crystal Wings Revenant XI-4.b Tactics Edition FTW!

"Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates"
That game should so come out for the 360.

Holy spin-off's Batman! Don't their employees get bored making the same stuff over and over? It is very common for dev teams to abandon making another sequel to a successful guaranteed money making game or put it off for years just because their employees refuse to spend the next year+ of their life making yet another sequel of the same game. Square is immune to that, apparently.

I don't know what the big deal is with disliking androgynous antagonists. Hell, if nothing else, it makes games like these easier for people of either gender to get into.
Zo? @ Jul 9th 2007 6:43PM
Protagonists. I mean... protagonists. >_>;;
valisol @ Jul 9th 2007 7:40PM
Yes! Heroes of Mana in August ^^ I just hope they don't sell it for $40 like they did FF3...
t_m @ Jul 10th 2007 4:26AM
