Decades in the making, welcome to the brand new Joystiq 2.0! Just missing our 3rd birthday by a couple of weeks (June 16th if you must ask ... and mark on your calendars), we're finally -- after months of hard work -- ready to share our very first redesign with you. There's a lot of new features in store, some of which still aren't ready for prime time (but soon will be). If you're having trouble viewing the new site, please try clearing your browser's cache. We'll walk you through all the new features tomorrow ... right after we finish congratulating our designer Mike Propst and the rest of the awesome tech team on a bee-yoo-tee-ful job. Thanks, everyone. Hip, hip ...

Looking good, guys. Looking damn fine, indeed.
SeNiLe911 @ Jul 9th 2007 3:24AM
I liked the old logo better with the pong action doing it's thing.
ssuk @ Jul 9th 2007 4:18AM
Yeah, bring back the pong and I'll accept this update. D=
isaacklinger @ Jul 9th 2007 8:15AM
Very nice design. Better than the old one. Good job.
C. Grant @ Jul 9th 2007 8:39AM
Well, our pong logo was "borrowed" by Wired Game|Life blog, so we've got some special plans in store for the new logo ... more about this after E3! :)
Nomi @ Jul 9th 2007 12:55PM
WOW! Great job! Better than what Gizmodo did....
phate @ Jul 9th 2007 4:50PM
Does this mean that the favicon is going to change too?
Exo @ Jul 9th 2007 9:41PM
so why did yo feel the need to ditch the dot for the i?
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Jul 9th 2007 10:20PM
pretty nice layout. it's very new age...but i did like the simplicity of your old one. Oh well, it looks great to me!
faceless coward @ Jul 9th 2007 2:29AM
Congratulations on the redesign Joystiq people. It looks awesome!
Quaddw @ Jul 9th 2007 2:30AM
Kind of liked the old one better, but I guess I'll just have to get used to this.
Mog @ Jul 9th 2007 2:29AM
Love it!
But...um...your "End Google Ad Slice -->" is showing. :-P
polly @ Jul 9th 2007 2:30AM
Do you guys have an alibi? No? So you ain't got no alibi?
faceless coward @ Jul 9th 2007 2:31AM
What's with the little Mario picture next to everyone's names, though?
BPM @ Jul 9th 2007 2:33AM
Paper Mario = temp avatar.
x876543 @ Jul 9th 2007 11:10AM
Please make an option to turn off all avatars. Please god!
Kaemon @ Jul 9th 2007 2:31AM
Hmm, the comment section looks different then it did a minute ago... not as horrible... otherwise its good.
First Kotaku, and now you? Whats up with redesigns.... I personally liked the old ones and now I have to get used to two new sites.. Oh well.
C. Grant @ Jul 9th 2007 2:40AM
This is our first redesign ever, after over three years of existence. I would argue it's long overdue!
I think you'll grow to love the new look ... it's not so much different.
Dave Silva @ Jul 9th 2007 9:57AM
I actually find this new design much better than the old one. It doesn't take as long to load, and it's much more... easy on the eyes.
Einhanderkiller @ Jul 9th 2007 2:31AM
It's going to take a few days to get used to.
Einhanderkiller @ Jul 9th 2007 2:32AM
Testing reply system.
Einhanderkiller @ Jul 9th 2007 2:36AM
Hooray!
Heliophage @ Jul 9th 2007 2:40AM
If I reply to you will I be way up there or way down here?
My sense of chornology may have been compromised!
Probot @ Jul 9th 2007 2:32AM
It will take some getting used to, but it's definitely an improvement.
From the avatars on the previous posts, it looks like you'll be added a much needed member customization.
Squeedom @ Jul 9th 2007 2:32AM
i Dont like it, ... Well, I should Like it.
Jeremy Bogdan @ Jul 9th 2007 2:33AM
Change that logo by either scaling it down to give it more white space around the edges, or just bring back the old logo. That new one doesn't look right. Good job with the redesign, hope you guys make it through E3!
Austin @ Jul 9th 2007 2:33AM
Don't go changin' just to try and please me. Your format's never let me down before.
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 9th 2007 2:33AM
Looking good...
Maybe you want to put a little profile of each user, so, when someone click the name, i.e. Fernando Rocker, opens a little profile, with a pic, name, favorite console, what are playin now... just the basic.
Georgio @ Jul 9th 2007 2:34AM
Hawt. ;)
C. Grant @ Jul 9th 2007 2:34AM
Working on just that Fernando, and you'll be able to change your password, avatar, and linked URL as well. It just wasn't ready in time for launch.
Purple Haze @ Jul 9th 2007 4:04AM
I like the redesign but you might want to give people the choice to go back to the old design like on gamefaqs because a couple of people have been saying they don't like it.
Mr Mobius @ Jul 9th 2007 12:10PM
It'd be nice if can have a log in region near top of the site so don't have to keep typing in password every time want to comment as well. I'm sure Joystiq's already onto that idea.
Nice site redesign by the way. Like the minimalist look, and once the whole avatar gets set up, it'll add variety. At the minute, although I love Mario, that avatar is getting monotonous in every post.
Heliophage @ Jul 9th 2007 2:35AM
I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually...
Very nice effort. I'll learn to love it soon enough.
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 9th 2007 2:35AM
Ah, one thing... you are missing the # number comment. Its important.
C. Grant @ Jul 9th 2007 2:37AM
Fernando, we have replies now. You can reply directly to the comment, like this.
faceless coward @ Jul 9th 2007 2:37AM
It's not that important. There's a reply button now.
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 9th 2007 2:41AM
Ahh... I havent seen the reply button... cool!
Dragod @ Jul 9th 2007 2:36AM
I thought I had loaded the page, clicked an ad and not noticed..
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 9th 2007 2:37AM
@C. Grant
Nice to ear that... but will be better if the linked url in the name opens a little window, here in the same Joystiq webpage, so everyone we are the same.
dave @ Jul 9th 2007 2:39AM
well done, looking good guys
Car2oon @ Jul 9th 2007 2:39AM
Very sleek, very clean, I love it. HOWEVER- please let the comments section expand for more than 50 comments. I think 100 comments per page would seem like an adequate amount. And awesome! Avatars!
C. Grant @ Jul 9th 2007 2:41AM
The comments will be bumped back up to 50. They're set at 25 now to make sure everything's working alright.
silkylove @ Jul 9th 2007 2:40AM
Jury is still out on all the changes. The Mario avatars give you bonus points.
C. Grant @ Jul 9th 2007 2:44AM
He's just temporary I'm afraid. You'll be able to set your own as soon as that feature is complete. You could always keep Mario if you wanted ...
Myrpok @ Jul 9th 2007 2:40AM
ermm... I think it looks a wee bit too busy. if everything were on either left or right... it's too garish for me to check it at work now, methinks. also I liked the old comment system's dual color scheme to differentiate posts. one white, next yellow, next white. i dunno. I don't like it. possibly add edit button? and not have to log into email to add comments?
C. Grant @ Jul 9th 2007 2:42AM
Really? Most people we tested the design on found it to be much cleaner and easier to read. Less garish, if you will.
Shane @ Jul 9th 2007 2:48AM
I would like it if the alternating colours returned. Maybe a light gray or blue. I think they look nice and keeps me from wandering.
But the choice of temporary avatar may just fuel the trolls. :)
JodyAnthony @ Jul 9th 2007 9:00AM
I also liked the alternating colors between comments. I mean, its totally readable now, but the alternating comment colors just broke it up a bit more for me, which I liked.
Anam @ Jul 9th 2007 9:11AM
I agree that the alternating colors really helped. Also, I hate avatars. But I think it's just me... otherwise, nice.
As long as we're suggesting stuff, can we get a feature that shows the comment your replying to above this text box? That would be useful.
JFISHAUF @ Jul 9th 2007 2:41AM
looks WAY too cluttered. it almost seems like you just did a redesign to add more space for advertisements.
the comment system is kindof clever, though. very "digg"
