Sorry, Stef, you're jumping to moronic conclusions. I don't have a "system." I'm not a big Halo guy. I don't have high hopes for Metroid Prime 3.

But at least those series have already delivered.

Killzone hasn't. That's what I can't understand, all the excitement over a series that just hasn't been good.

I never suggested that YOU were a troll. I was taking a shot at people who bring up unrelated stuff because they get off on bashing Sony. Anyway, for what it's worth, there ARE people (including me) who think that Halo is hugely overrated (and to think I almost bought an Xbox just so I could play it!) And the last Metroid game was, if I'm not mistaken, basically the same game with some new textures (at least that's what the reviews implied). Now I'm not saying that KZ2 will be amazing, or even good, I'm just saying that it's REALLY damn stupid to start saying it's going to flat-out suck because of one screenshot and bad impressions of the first game. I made the argument that a sequel doesn't have to be held down by what made the first title suck, people shot it down, citing how Hollywood sequels of bad movies blow. Fair enough. But just to illustrate how a sequel can be different from the first title, look at Red Faction. The first game was good, the second game was too, but aside from Geo-mod, the games had next to nothing in common. How is that possible? A sequel is merely another game in the same franchise, so for all we know, KZ2 has nothing in common with KZ1 aside from premise and art style.

The excitement exists because of the 2005 E3 trailer - not because of the previous installment.

If Guerrilla Games manage to show a game that reflects the polish and feel that was shown in 2005, people have a reason to be exicted.

There's confirmation in that very thread that that has nothing to do with the company that's developing the game. It's fake.

Also, it's weird seeing people claim the darkness is making it hard to judge. That only makes sense if all you can see is black, when every thing is just clearly visible.

I understand that this is from a "pre-alpha" build, but look at what we were first shown and told the game would look like. Then we were told it was actually looking better than that. Then we see this? How is that not going to disappoint any one?

The 2005 trailer was entirely pre-rendered CGI from a PC made by a dev house entirely different than the one making the actual gameplay.

Why would you be excited about that? It's like if you get excited for the pictures of girls in the ads for phone sex numbers. Those girls in no way reflect what's on the other end of the phone, just what they hope they represent. It looks too good to be true because it is, and if you think it's what you're actually getting then there's really no hope for you.

"The 2005 trailer was entirely pre-rendered CGI from a PC made by a dev house entirely different than the one making the actual gameplay."

No shit, Einstein.

That's exactly why people are excited. They want to see how the ACTUAL game looks and plays in comparison to a completely pre rendered clip.

This grimy "pre-pre-alpha" screenshot is to bring our expectations down for what's going to be shown at E3.

The game is gonna look good. How it'll match up to the trailer is another matter entirely, but to think this game won't look damn good is kind of foolish.

To make your judgements over one screenshot is quite frankly stupid.

They once showed an INCREDIBLY ugly Motorstorm screenshot. Now look at the graphical quality of that game.

Why not just wait for E3 to reveal the proper Killzone trailer + screenshots?

Seb (member of Killzone Dev Team) has said this is a pre-pre-Alpha shot.

killzone 1 was a great idea with bad execution. hopefully they'll nail it this time. If not it will be a shame.

Also, Sony and Guerrilla KNOW people are expecting the game look like the target render, and have been waiting for years to actually see in-game shots. They're messing with us, and are probably chuckling right now as people freak out over a pre-alpha screenshot and condemn the game.

This reminds me of all the whining when the Halo 3 beta was released. So many fanboys bashing the game for not looking as good enough. Then after the beta was over Bungie released some more pics of the campaign and suddenly only the truly die-hard fanboys kept trying to pick them apart while most people were shut-up. I'm thinking a similar situation will happen here... especially considering these are pre-alpha shots.

Soon enough, we'll know what the game looks like in motion, and which side was right. Then the losing side will be taunted and booed until my throat is sore.

LOL, looks like we've all been punked:

http://ps3bits.net/website1/index.php

Looks like what we're seeing is a picture in-game of Killzone 2, but we're actually seeing a poster of an in-game picture of Killzone 1. If this is true, it'll be freaking hilarious lol.

But it's probably not true. The "poster inside the game" is generally accepted to be a photoshop of the original screenshot.

@faceless coward

The "brick wall" brick is fake, but that was made by someone to dispel the poster rumors. Others who have been researching this point-out there's facts pointing to this being a poster, and what's been really suspicious is that the motherH (killzone developer who frequents some forums) has avoided confirming or denying this rumor, despite debunking another fake picture that surfaced a few hours ago.

Why would there be a poster of an in-game picture in the game itself? I'd understand if it was an image of just the enemy there, but it even includes the gun the player would be holding.

I mean, who knows if that's true or not, but it's pretty stupid lol.

I think it's an excellent marketing ploy. I'm doubtful Killzone will be %100 as good as the trailer, and Sony knows some people won't be satisfied with anything less than %100. So instead, they release this poster picture showing sub-par graphics to get everyones expectations down. Then, they wow us with real Killzone 2 graphics that don't look quite as good as the trailer, but after the joke that's been played on us we'll be more than satisfied. Only time will tell.

I think we may have all just got punked by Sony- and it is pretty damn funny. It does appear now that the actual screen shot is of someone looking at a poster on a wall. I actually think this is very funny on Sony's part- can't wait to see the real screenshots/video of this game now.

Tom, your comment has led me thinking they actually gave this specific poor quality screenshot on purpose. As you said, bring everyone's hopes down, thus expectations then lower. Then they'll surprise everyone with the new E3 trailer, blowing everyone away.

Also, this screenshot looks worse than Uncharted, Haze, MGS4, Lair and Heavenly Sword.

Killzone 2 WILL NOT look worse than those games. If anything, you'd expect it to be better.

Can't wait until tomorrow to be honest. :)

Today is the day of Judgment for Killzone and Sony. This games hands down will need to look better than Halo 3 and Metal Gear. Sony has bet the farm on this game and who will be paid this evening?

Regardless of this pictures quality we all should realize that fake "gameplay" trailer from a couple years ago is going to look far better then the actual game.

10 bucks says K2 ends up being solid, yet unremarkable. It won't be the best shooter available on the PS3 when it ships. Unreal, RFoM, and Haze will all be better. Yet, it will be a fun game worth playing. That is my "call".

Graphics-wise, I thought Resistance had great graphics and think this will be slightly better. No Gears, Bioshock, or Mass Effect, but damn good. ;)

I'm a little excited for this. The original Killzone had oodles of potential, but I believe that the fault was with the PS2 hardware not being powerful enough for Guerilla to fully implement their vision. I'm interested to see if they can do it now with the vastly more powerful PS3 and a bigger team/budget. I hope at least they can iron out the framerate. 8 FPS in a shooter doesn't cut it for me.
