Fully playable Cave Story PSP demo released
13
That was ... fast! Just a few weeks ago homebrew demos were released of Cave Story ports for both the DS and PSP. Looks like ufo_z is nearly finished with the PSP version and has unleashed release candidate one, playable from beginning to end with a few minor bugs due to the stretched screen size. It's not the final version, and at the speed things are going it might be a good idea to wait a few days for the bugs to be squashed. But it's free, the game's creator has given it a thumbs up, and if you have PSP capable of playing homebrew games, the thought of a portable Cave Story will probably make you too giddy to wait.

Actual "homebrew" on the PSP? So often "homebrew" on the PSP is really a front for "piracy" and "cracking" (bypassing copy protection, emulating other hardware to play commercial games) that I thought the true spirit of "homebrew" - homemade original games - was lost. To see Cave Story on the PSP gives me some hope for the homebrew movement.

QQ more, then go spend $5 on the same damn Mario game for the 20th time. Most of the games people emulate are either impossible to find, were never released in the US, or so rare that it's not worth blowing $150 just to play it.

Some clever indervidual should have acquired the rights to Cave Story off Pixel Studio and made it for XBL Arcade, PSP, DS or something, it'd sell like nothing before.
I'm not complaining that a free PSP version has come out and a DS version in the works, but just think of the oppertunity missed here.

This makes me really happy. Cave story was a fairly enthralling game for the pc and now seeing it on the PSP just make me excited.
Only problem is, I haven't been able to get a hold of a copy of Lumines so that I can begin the whole downgrade and uploading the OE firmware yet. Guess it's time to hit Amazon, since all of the used retailers around my place don't seem to have it.

I have an extra copy of Lumines and have been searching like hell for how to downgrade my 3.4 PSP in order to run some of these homebrew apps. If somebody wants to help a man out they can have my other copy damnit!

Now lets hear all those DSFanboys saying PSP's late on the game because they were developing one for DS for a while now....
Anyway another great homebrew release for PSP, lately the scene has been slow when it comes to games, I mean GOOD GAMES :)

Christ! That was a bit quick!
Can't wait for the DS version to get finished. Cave Story is one my favourite games and a portable dose would be perfect.

Yeah, except it's already been stated that the super wide screen takes away alot of the surprise and fun. Why he didn't just make it the same ratio as the PC version is beyond me. Also, have fun playing with non-original code guys! That's right, he used near nothing of Pixel's original code to make this.
I'd wait for the DS one guys, having played both, the DS one is much more faithful and much more fun.

Are you serious, the DS one is better. Cuz I played both of them I don't see a freaking diff. Except a choice of bigger screen or two screens.
For me I woul get the DS version b/c its probably faster to download. Stick it in the R4 and DONE!
