Gears of War is no longer a Xbox 360 exclusive. Neither is
Viva Pinata. Two of Microsoft's premiere console titles is now getting the Games For Windows treatment. The Game of the Year-winning shooter from Epic will gain a few enhancements on the PC, such as five new levels, a new editor, and "some very big surprises." Could the game look even prettier on a DirectX 10 PC? Believe it. Thankfully, the game will run on both Windows XP and Windows Vista.
Viva Pinata and a major list of new Games for Windows titles were revealed at the Microsoft keynote, including titles such as
Age of Empires 3: The Asian Dynasties,
Stranglehold,
Blacksite: Area 51, and
Kane and Lynch: Dead Men.

Oh. Sure. I get a 360 for Gears, then it comes to the PC. I could've waited and played it on a more reliable platform. *headdesk*
Aex @ Jul 11th 2007 1:02AM
Heh, I got my xbox 360 for gears too...
FrankTheCrank @ Jul 11th 2007 5:46AM
NO NEED FOR 360 NOW.
Just got the 360 controller for PC. Playing Geometry Wars on PC. Will get Lost Planet this weekend, which is improved over the 360 version. Glad to see GOW coming to PC as well.
I don't get M$. Guess their just playing to their base(PC's), just in case the whole console thing doesn't work out.
Bachus @ Jul 11th 2007 12:51AM
not only is it on a more reliable platform than the 360, but it's on a more reliable platform than Vista! XP gaming is still ftw.
Lp47 @ Jul 11th 2007 12:59AM
Old news whats up with this conference i dont care if gears goes to PC is last years game screw this conference.
Shawn D @ Jul 11th 2007 1:06AM
Oh yeah, and the most important part? XP! Not to mention all of the killer maps/mods to come. Epic is back in the love seat for PC Gamers, that's for sure.
kmcl @ Jul 11th 2007 1:09AM
CliffyB's parting comment seemed to imply that Games for Windows Live will not be Vista exclusive when Gears of War ships for the PC...
Pete @ Jul 11th 2007 1:09AM
I can't believe they ported this so soon!! Unbelievable! What kind of message is this sending to potential 360 gamers? Our games get ported to PC in a year?? So much for "exclusive" games. I think this is a bad move on MS's part.
Slvrgun @ Jul 11th 2007 1:12AM
Do you realize the cost of building a PC capable of handling the Xbox 360 capabilities, let alone exceed them? I think it was inevitable that more Xbox 360 games would be ported to the PC, as they are basically under the same family.
Slvrgun @ Jul 11th 2007 1:09AM
Having Gears run the way it should is going to take a beast of a machine, that said I doubt it will sell as many copies as it did on the Xbox 360.
But I think the real issue is whether the 5 new chapters for the PC version will become downloable content for the Xbox 360, and if it does how much will it cost and when will it be released? I would also like to know if their will be a way to port your level edits to the console versions.
Cedar @ Jul 11th 2007 1:17AM
I'll be incredibly annoyed if they don't bring the single player chapters to the 360. What's the point in buying the 360 version of GoW2 if it'll come out on the PC a year later, with a LOT more content and probably £10 cheaper? :/
ssuk @ Jul 11th 2007 5:26AM
Well, good luck with finding a computer system which can play Gears PC at full speed for under $500. No cheating and importing from China, either.
rfom @ Jul 11th 2007 1:12AM
Guys, MS have done it – brilliant e3 presentation, beat Sony E3 06 hands down
First, the biggest piece of news: Gears of War to PC
The only “great” exclusive on 360 for 18 months, no longer an exclusive - will be on PC, with a M-KB combo, free multiplayer, Five new single player levels. Man, buying that RROD console was worth it – anyone paid USD100 for those 2 years of multiplayer?
And MS has announced Halo 4!
Ooops no sorry, it seems it’s the HALO HALO HALO “the only game that matters” special edition gray console, a new better way to pay, sorry play
1 Ten minutes of HALO HALO HALO “the only game that matters”
2 New IPs - “Viva Pinata party”, “Scene It” with THE remote. NO new decent exclusive – thank god Mass Effect out this year, that leaves 2008 almost a complete blank versus 15 PS3 exclusives
3 “largest installed base with 5.6 million units in the US. ... outselling PS3 by nearly two to one”
Brilliant Republican style spin. Neglect to add “two to one” only in US, getting whopped elsewhere or largest base solely because of one-year lead, sales barely ahead of PS3 worldwide despite USD200 price gap.
4 “Since November, Xbox 360 third party games have cracked the top 10 list 18 times. Number of Wii and PS3 titles: zero, nil."” “Half of all consumer spending in this generation is on the Xbox 360.”
Obviously, launching a super-defective console one year early has its merits
5 “This year's EA Sports games will be "twice as fast" as last year's games.”
???
6 “Only console that has GTA, Halo and Madden this holiday is”
Two non-exclusives and of course, HALO HALO HALO “the only game that matters” – who cares for Metroid Prime, Mario Galaxy, Lair, Ratchet, Heavenly, etc etc
7 “Xbox Live has more than 7 million members”
How many Gold members? How many 360 units? Of course not, we don’t lie, we just neglect to tell the truth.
8 “The video store is the fastest growing part of Xbox Live.”
I thought it was a gaming console blah blah?
9 “Disney movie titles are coming to Xbox Live”
AND exclusive on Blu-Ray
10 “Exclusive multiplayer beta of CoD4 coming to Xbox Live”
AT LAST a new exclusive for 360
11 A bunch of non-exclusives
12 A final trailer of HALO HALO HALO “the only game that matters”
13 Ends with "It's the greatest lineup in video game history” with, er, the same number of good exclusives as PS3 / wii – but of course there is HALO HALO HALO “the only game that matters”
ssuk @ Jul 11th 2007 5:30AM
Hm, can't wait for the Sony one.
"We've dropped the price. ... Oh and lost exclusives for Devil May Cry, Virtua Fighter 5, haven't got exclusive for GTA, may loose MGS4, Square Enix said they don't want to dev any more than FFXIII for us and your US PS3 80GB consoles are as fucked up as Europe's. BUY OUR STUFFS!"
Can't wait.
vectorelement @ Jul 11th 2007 1:13AM
Since I don't have a 360 (yet), I just might get Gears for XP and install it on my C2D MBP. Hopefully the sys reqs won't be too demanding than HL2, but by the time Gears XP comes out, I'll probably have a 360 anyway. Here's to wishful thinking!
aStan @ Jul 11th 2007 1:15AM
WOOHOOOOOO! We're all one step closer to getting to getting ripped off. I can't wait until Windows Live get's majority support from devs and the vast majority of PC games will only run on Live. Then MS can finish up by making sure we all HAVE to play for p2p. LONG LIVE XBOT STUPIDY!!!!!! I LOVE BEING AMONGST THE MOST STUPID CONNEDSUMERS ON THE PLANET!!!!!!!!
SeriousStan @ Jul 11th 2007 1:20AM
MS is trash and needs to be curb stomped out of the console industry.
Dragaroo @ Jul 11th 2007 1:44AM
...Viva Pinata? Whoo! Finally, something to do post-Peggle.
El Padre @ Jul 12th 2007 8:18AM
I decided to buy X360 (instead of upgrading my PC) mainly for Gears. Sucker, I know. Now for supporting MS console I got screwed out of 5 levels in GoW...
FrankTheCrank @ Jul 11th 2007 5:55AM
You should have no problems running GOW on a PC, if the PC is relatively new(2 years) and has a good video card.
My P4 3.6(overclocked) and Nvidia 7800GS should be fine.
SWEET, BRING ON THE 360 GAMES!!!!
Phranctoast @ Jul 11th 2007 6:34AM
As long as I dont have to buy vista, this is great news.
Dot @ Jul 11th 2007 8:12AM
Nice, this is going to be awesome!
Ali @ Jul 11th 2007 7:18AM
A good move to release it for XP, then people might actually buy its
Shadowrun and Halo 2 anyone?
Mabui @ Jul 11th 2007 8:12AM
Finally Viva on a platform it might succeed in, I was waiting for them to do something like this.
Vinnie @ Jul 11th 2007 11:47AM
XBOX 360 is so DEAD right now... worst 400€ i have ever spent.
PC + PS3 ftw
Makaveli @ Jul 11th 2007 2:52PM
This is exactly why everyone should learn how to build a PC. Since the Xbox 360 is based on 2 year old PC tech except for the graphics card, Gears should run fine on a gaming PC built using two year old parts besides a newer GPU such as this:
Dual Core Socket 939 Processor - $100
Socket 939 Motherboard - $75
Geforce 7950gt - $175
PC upgrade, research, optimization, and testing - 1 week
With $350 and a seven days of effort, you too can experience 90% of the good 360 games while saving ten dollars on each new and bargain bin game purchase, thousands on subscription fees and downloadable content, and hundreds on overpriced accessories and data storage. Personally, I can live with missing out on Project Gotham, Forza, Mass Effect, and a bunch of sports and fighting games just like I missed out on Dead or Alive, Ninja Gaiden, Jet Set Radio, Crimson Skies, Oddworld and Panzer Dragoon on the Xbox. I'll definitely miss GTA and Metal Gear, but I forsee an ultra cheap PS3 will arrive in a couple of years will alleviate that problem.
playclever @ Jul 11th 2007 6:40PM
Two of the five or siz games I was considering getting a 360 for? On PC? Get in!! :D
Tyliggity @ Jul 18th 2007 7:06PM
Hahaha! It's funny. The longest post is from some loser who just wants to cry about the MS conference and say PS3 FTW! The great thing about gaming is that it's entertainment and that you can opinionate all you want. Sony, you've lost 90% of the exclusive franchises that make you special. All of my PS3 fanboy friends are even disappointed in you. Everyone I know with both consoles say the XBox is superior for whatever reason and I know it must be tough for all of your fans to realize you have an inferior line up this fall and that all the games coming out for both consoles will sell better on the 360...as they all have been. I'll shed a tear for the PS3'ers. P.S. The "rule" of the conference is that they weren't discussing games that came out after this calendar year, rfom. Don't worry, MS will kick Sony's ass in the U.S. again next year or any year...they have way more money to put out to get quality. Look at the companies beyond gaming and you'll see. That's how B. Gates rolls.
hotnutz @ Jul 17th 2007 5:28PM
Holy crap, I didn't expect MS to show their colours this early? I figured they would screw their base (as they did with me and the original Xbox, but I didn't think they would screw the 360 crowd so early? Well aside from the 33% failure rate issue)...
Rah Rah rah! Can't wait for "HALO HALO HALO - the only game that matters" to hit PCs next year!
hellnath @ Oct 10th 2007 8:30PM
i hope people put it on the web so i can download it
