the usuals are sure to bitch and whine but I think it looks great.
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 10th 2007 3:29PM
Sounds like a Wii hater... besides... I dont think this game will cost $40 dlls...
Jack @ Jul 10th 2007 3:39PM
im pretty sure theyve already said the price was $40
Crazylink @ Jul 10th 2007 3:30PM
Wow, that's pretty neat. All those sparks could get in the way if you dont have the option to turn them off.
Truepatriot @ Jul 10th 2007 3:35PM
youve obviously never played geo wars.it getscrazier than this video too to the point were you lose your ships sometimes XD
game looks good but $40 dollars?
megaStryke @ Jul 10th 2007 3:35PM
That's half the fun of the game.
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 10th 2007 3:35PM
mmmm thats kind the point of Geometry Wars
Einhanderkiller @ Jul 10th 2007 3:36PM
The game looks like it could have some major framerate issues in some "bigger" levels. With only a few enemies on screen in that video, the framerate looked like it dropped below 15.
Fatass of Kickassness @ Jul 10th 2007 5:45PM
That comment made me rewatch the video and the only slowdown I saw was when a bigger ship would get destroyed, and the particles would take a little longer to disperse - that happened in the XBLA version of the game, too, and is a cosmetic effect rather than a framerate drop.
FrankTheCrank @ Jul 10th 2007 3:36PM
I got the PC version, thanks VALVE.
$2.50 for 1680X1050 gaming glory!
Just received the 360 controller I bought on eBay, $21 shipped. Can't wait to get home!
Vidikron @ Jul 10th 2007 3:36PM
"Very close"? Maybe it's been too long since someone at Joystiq has played Geometry Wars in HD. It's not that close at all. Of course, the video quality could be having an effect too. Hard to tell. But the video itself isn't that impressive.
Jack @ Jul 10th 2007 3:39PM
does anyone hate the gametrailers.com video player as much as me?
Rubang B @ Jul 10th 2007 3:41PM
I do!
Exo @ Jul 10th 2007 3:46PM
Yea I hate it too, it never plays when people embed it on their site, so im forced to go to the website to see the videos. and even there they dont always work well.
Truepatriot @ Jul 10th 2007 3:54PM
thats not gametrailers thats gamevideos player.gamevideos does suck gametrailers is great.
john @ Jul 10th 2007 4:03PM
I do, too! It never works embedded. You'd think that a site run by a bunch of gamers would be able to get this right!
Jack @ Jul 10th 2007 4:19PM
thats my bad Truepatriot, i also love the gameTRAILERS.com video player, but hate the gameVIDEOS.com. i guess i was just wishing this was in gametrailers format when i typed that.. just a typo!
Rubang B @ Jul 10th 2007 3:41PM
Hey remember when everybody bought, played, and loved Geometry Wars due to its intense gameplay as opposed to its shiny graphics? Yeah, me neither. This looks like crap. Two thumbs down.
Konny @ Jul 10th 2007 3:41PM
All they need to do is call it Super Mario Geometry Wars and it will sell boatloads.. Seriously though, people were bitching when flOw went for $5 on PSN.. but, Geometry Wars Wii for $40 is a-OK.. cause its on Wii, and everything on Wii is good. Wake up guys.
Rubang B @ Jul 10th 2007 3:42PM
But everything on Wii IS GOOD. You sir, are the one who needs to be doing the wake up.
Jon A. @ Jul 10th 2007 3:49PM
Have you even read the Gamespot Hands-On of this game? The original Geometry Wars (which is included) is only a darn "Planet" in the dozens of Galaxies on the disc. They're not trying to rip you off.
JodyAnthony @ Jul 10th 2007 3:49PM
oh Konny
you came and you found me a turkey
on my vacation away from workey
Konny @ Jul 10th 2007 3:54PM
Oooooh.. instead of a rectangle arena.. they turned it into an octagon/pentagon..etc. Sooo revolutionary; thats worth $40 alone.
And that drone.. yea, Life Force did that 20+ years ago.
Seriously, people trying to rationalise the cost of this game at 8x the cost of the 360 game are Nintendo Apologists.. they're packaging down-loadable games as disc games and you guys are paying full price!
JodyAnthony @ Jul 10th 2007 4:01PM
the question is which is worse? the person that takes the money they worked for and spends $40 of it on a video game that they want to own/play, or the person that goes on joystiq every single day and badmouths a stupid toy, and acts like they are a better person that the person that buys said toy?
icicle0424 @ Jul 10th 2007 4:29PM
I do believe you've been pwn3d, Konny...
Paul P. @ Jul 10th 2007 3:48PM
If it was the same as the 360 version, yes that price of $40 would be insane. As it is, we don't know just how extensive the single player campaign, co-op and online modes are. It is possible they may justify the price. No one knows at this point though.
Jonathan Tran @ Jul 10th 2007 3:53PM
There are dozens of levels more, plus the original, plus new power ups with the drone, plus coop mode...
If they charge $40 it's not a travesty. If you can't stomach the price.. buy it on eBay a week later for $30.
MooseMuffin @ Jul 10th 2007 3:53PM
Wait, there was concern that the wii couldn't handle geometry wars? Give me a break. This isn't exactly gears of war. I love geometry wars and found it to be very nice to look at, but I wouldn't say its stressing the hardware.
Paul P. @ Jul 10th 2007 3:55PM
Well it does have a lot of particles and physics and stuff, which can be very processor intensive. I would even say it kind of looks like you can see some slowdown in that video above, but nothing major.
Phranctoast @ Jul 10th 2007 3:56PM
the only difference I could think of should be the resolution. If the wii wont pump out games at 720-1080 the xbl version will always look better.
ymmv @ Jul 10th 2007 4:10PM
Geometry Wars on the Wii shouldn't cost more than Super Stardust HD on the PS3. That game has multiple levels, end bosses, multiple soundtracks, etc. It's a better game than Geometry Wars and crushes it in the visual department. At $8 it's a steal. If GW on the Wii even with many additional planets costs $40, it's a rip-off.
kabes @ Jul 10th 2007 4:11PM
I see frame rate hitches lol...
360 version also runs in high def
$5 XBL arcade game > $40 wii retail game
JodyAnthony @ Jul 10th 2007 4:13PM
unless you don't own a 360
Émile-A @ Jul 10th 2007 4:12PM
[FanBoy Mode/ON] It's not a slowdown! It's that wacky gravity thing with a black hole and everything... [FanBoy Mode/OFF]
Patrick @ Jul 10th 2007 4:21PM
Shouldn't writers on Joystiq be UN-biased?
Oh and people should read about games before bashing them. How many of you here have actually read about what Geometry Wars on the Wii will be like?
I can't even believe people doubt the Wii capabilities, ofcourse it can handle the game and why are you judging it on an online clip? Have you ever seen a clip of Gears of War from Gamevideos.com? It looks like shit and you people think the Wii can't handle Geometry Wars? What a joke.
The Wii is a good console with good games with decent looking graphics. The people bashing the Wii have either a) never played on it or b) played some random shitty game for 5 minutes.
Almack64 @ Jul 10th 2007 4:54PM
Joystiq writers NOT Biased....What?
bm @ Jul 10th 2007 8:11PM
You have obviously never read a James Ransom-Wiley post. :P
Patrick @ Jul 10th 2007 8:25PM
I've been reading Joystiq for quite a while, but I dont keep up with who is writing what =P
But I don't think I've read something as biased as "Apparently, Wii really does produce results that are "very close" to Xbox 360 ... an Xbox 360 XBLA game."
hah.
Omega2k3 @ Jul 10th 2007 4:56PM
Wow, I thought it WAS going to be Wii-Ware. As much fun as Geometry Wars is, I wouldn't pay $40.
Shagittarius @ Jul 10th 2007 5:00PM
"The people bashing the Wii have either a) never played on it or b) played some random shitty game for 5 minutes."
Lol, Its funny you should say that, cause every game out for Wii is a random shitty game in my opinion.
Patrick @ Jul 10th 2007 5:05PM
Which obviously means you haven't given the Wii a chance.
Hirsbrunner @ Jul 10th 2007 6:18PM
And how often are you asked for your opinion, Shag?
*crickets chirping*
Precisely.
hirulefieldagain... @ Jul 10th 2007 6:37PM
Nooooooo!!! that seriously looks terrible . Geometry wars needs the HIGH DEF it looks tacky and cheap in low definition, The wii just can't handle a couple of megs X.B.L.A game and not destroy it- its just not up to the task.
accidental @ Jul 10th 2007 6:58PM
$40 isn't that bad. Considering that Retro Evolved is just one planet in Galaxies which has 60. And they're all different.
Skitals @ Jul 10th 2007 7:48PM
And on the 8th day, God created WiiKey.
Rubang B @ Jul 10th 2007 8:30PM
I'm only going to say this once...
CO-OP.
This game will kick balls.
Co-op alone is worth the price of admission.
Justin @ Jul 10th 2007 8:40PM
I'm interested in the new depth that they've introduced to the game; but a quick comparison of the screenshots of the Wii and 360 versions will show you that the 360 still looks better.
Robot @ Jul 10th 2007 11:00PM
I suppose no one watched the 1up show? Great video podcast on games.
This Geometry wars is using the Wii to its full potential, not graphically speaking but in content. 60+ levels, Co-Op, Leaderboards, DS connectivitey, DS download, and from that, WiFi.
I dunno about you guys, but I say this is worth the 40 dollar, if its even going to be that much.
alex @ Jul 10th 2007 11:10PM
do you people go to IGN? they have a trailer there where it starts out looking at a huge galaxy then zooms in to a solar system, which has like 5 planes (each a level) and ones a black hole (it makes you constantly move around in a circle) i feel its going to have cool level effects for each level plus ALLOT of levels.
alex @ Jul 10th 2007 11:15PM
http://media.wii.ign.com/media/908/908045/vids_1.html heres the link, it looks like $40 to me
