Konami hints at MGS 4 jumping ship

Talking to Reuters, head of Konami's North American and European operations Kazumi Kitaue expressed their less than optimistic feelings about the PS3 and its latest price cut. "I wonder if Sony can win back user support by the price cut of just $100" Kitaue said, "I don't expect a substantial impact ... With $500, you can buy a personal computer". Very opinionated and strong words coming from a developer who is supposedly creating a highly anticipated game (see Metal Gear Solid 4) exclusively for Sony. So, it's even more interesting and revealing to hear Kitaue's response to a question asking about MGS 4 exclusivity where he goes on to say that "Metal Gear Solid was born for the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game. But we might have to take some steps".

There you go fanboys, we've added some fuel to the Metal Gear Solid 4 is 360 bound fire as it has yet to be drowned out. You're welcome.

I'm not a fan of MGS, but I'm glad that this could be the nail in Sony's coffin.. as so many people say.

If 360 gets MGS, my ps3 is gone.

I'm with coffinfeeder...I'm not into MGS that much, i would play it if it came to the 360.

And theres also the fact that if this came to the 360, along with maybe Final Fantasy, that would be the end of the PS3, even if it did get released on both consoles...

I'm personally not a fan of the series, really, but objectively I don't see the point of them leaving it on one system. They've spent so much money on it (apparently) that it would be foolish to not just release it on both anyway... Sony says they don't pay for exclusitivity, so what reason is there to keep it that way?

CONFIRMED! C'mon, how does this not mean a 360 version is inevitable? I don't care for stealing Sony exclusives, but I'm a fan of good games...

I have had a serious problem with something concerning Microsoft and thier customer support. No1 at the Customer support or website can seem to give me the resolve I desire, Who or where do I need to email to get the attention of someone that works for MS that matters enough to do something about my grievance?

Tony...and especially if MS is willing to pay for it to come to the 360...or even willin to pay to get it exclusive to the 360...and if that happens...the POS3 is gone. never to return even for final fantasy.

I would buy Metal Gear Solid 4 for my Xbox 360, but I would never consider spending $500 to buy a Playstation 3. The PS3 system doesn't have enough games.

I am not interested in Blu-ray discs. I already have 200 DVD discs and a cool Denon Audio/Video receiver that upconverts everything to 1080p. I am not going to buy all of those discs over again when they look almost identical.

If Konami releases Metal Gear on the Xbox 360, I probably would buy it, if it were to receive good reviews from the magazines. But, if it didn't receive good reviews I probably wouldn't buy it.

I agree with Konami. The sales and performance of the Playstation 3 have been very disappointing. Just look how fast Sony was forced to lower the price of the PS3. There is no way a $100 price drop is going to matter anyways.

MSG is a decent game. I don't find it fun, running and hiding... Not a personal favourite, but I do enjoy the cut scenes. If it did come for the 360, I wouldn't purchse it, but there are plenty of people that will. If they get this or Final Fantasy, the nails will come quickly for the ps3.

If Konami were intelligent, they would release Metal Gear Solid 4 exclusively for the Xbox 360. That way the game would be optimized for Xbox 360 hardware.

People now often say that performance of Xbox 360 games is better than Playstation 3 games. Those people are correct. If Hideo Kojima releases a PS3 version, and then someone younger releases an Xbox 360 version, the other person will instantly become a legend because he created something more impressive than Hideo Kojima. Konami and Hideo Kojima need to consider that.

I think it would be smart to release MGS4 exclusively for Xbox 360.

As for people who responded to my post: Konami is huge and I think they could assign some sort of port team.

My point was mostly that it'd be a hell of a lot easier to make that money back over two systems than one... particularly given 360's current base.

And later found out that the PS3 has poor online, washed out contrast and no rumble. But we might have to take some steps." In my opinion that moves MGS4 from a 25% chance of porting to something like 50%.

Tonight is the MS conference, and there's a Konami press conference tomorrow. If it's going to happen, we'll know by then.

it wouldnt be that shocking to see MGS4 on 360, but I wouldnt expect it since kojima rarely does multiplatform and also wants motion controls for the game.

I really don't think it's xbox fanboys wanting the game on the 360...I think it's more xbox fanboys DON'T want it on the PS3...

and you can easily see this by looking at MGS2 on xbox and how big of a failure it was.

the really funny thing is, only 2 of the metal gear games were exclusive to sony platforms. MG and MG2 (all versions) were either on MSX or NES, MGS was on PS1 but remade for gamecube, MGS2 was released for ps2 and xbox, MGS ghost babel was for gameboy color, and MGS3 and MGS portable ops were only for PS2 and PSP.... yes only those 2 were ever sony only.

If MGS4 gets 'PORTED' to the 360, it will run @ a higher frame rate, be more Detailed, have better Online play, More DLC, & Better over all Experience!!!

They havent stated anything about it coming to 360. This is the big quote people are jumping all over: "Since Metal Gear was born on the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game. But we might have to take some steps." What this means to us is exactly what we've predicted. Metal Gear Solid 4 is a timed exclusive (if the game does not sell systems.) We think it will, but we don't think it will be enough for Konami, so they'll release MGS4 on the 360 about a year later.

@Sony Ownz, I forget that you and Hideo are the best of palls and that he confides you with everything. Anyone that has followed Hideo knows that he is always secretive and keeps his best surprises for last.

I use to be a big Sony fanboy but guess what the PS3 has failed, maybe one day it may be a decent platform for games but now it doesn't cut it.

METAL GEAR SOLID 4 FTW!!!

MGS1 was great, but was too into cutscenes. MGS2 was I bought when it came out and was so disappointed with more long cutscenes and the uber-lame Raiden main character that I swore off the series. Still, if it comes to the 360, it'll really show that the sony weakness is ripe in the industry.

Heh, last MGS game I played was the first one, for NES! I'm definitely picking it up if it hits for 360, but it's not worth paying $500 for a new console to get this game. No game is worth ~$560.

So, when's Squaresoft going to announce FF13 for the Xbox 360 and hammer the final nail in the coffin?

I would definitely buy it. I loved Substance on the xbox 1.

MGS2 flopped on the xbox because everyone that wanted it also had a ps2 and bought it on there. No one knew it was just a timed exclusive. Most people don't like to re-buy games they've already played much like re-buying movies they already own. Until Blu-Ray and HD-DVD (sales excluded) prices drop to present DVD prices I have a hard time supporting either format

honestly many thought it was going to flop (including myself) so I never bothered. but as one other person pointed out, back then if you had the xbox you also had the ps1 or ps2 so why buy two of the same game.

MGS on the original Xbox came out like half a year after the ps2 release. Had it come out the same time, well thats a completly different story.
As far as MGS4 goes, Good luck spoiling plots 4 MGS4 when 360 gamers will be playing the game the same time ps3 players will be. If PS3 players end up playing it at all lol! AT this rate U never know. MGS is a great game, but after beating it, quickly looses replay value:( Still, I love to see the sony fan-idiots upset and I can feel thier pain. Yees.

Some are with sale prices, but most of them at retail chains still carry the $25-$35 price tag. Instant gratification of store-bought items is still a key at this point. Until next day shipping (other than Amazon Prime) becomes a nominal fee or someone can easily pull off same-day shipping brick & mortor will still exist and dictate the market :)
