Did Disney make that trailer?
Rod Munch @ Jul 10th 2007 8:33PM
Lol, I thought exactly the same thing.
Joshua @ Jul 10th 2007 9:01PM
Has NiGHTS always been like this? I've never played the Saturn game, so I'm seriously wondering.
This trailer is far far too filled with "Disney Magic™" for me.
ZapDash @ Jul 11th 2007 12:34AM
I could swear they even have the Disney announcer guy. I know I've heard that voice before.
whosmav @ Jul 10th 2007 8:27PM
Peyote not included.
Lijik @ Jul 10th 2007 8:28PM
Don LaFontaine nailed those lines, especially the "Exclusively for... Wii" part.
hegemonyhog @ Jul 10th 2007 8:32PM
Requisite "that looks like crap" line.
Requisite rebuttal that it doesn't.
I felt tingly watching it, though.
daniel @ Jul 10th 2007 8:32PM
i thought that as well it does seem like a trailer for a disney film
Rob Accomando @ Jul 10th 2007 8:35PM
Watch it get rated "AO" and Wii won't support it. haha.
But seriously, do YOU wish you could fly?
Lijik @ Jul 10th 2007 8:37PM
Only if I could fly beyond the day and through the night sky to a place... in a WORLD
bigd7387 @ Jul 10th 2007 8:40PM
Ok, First this game is about 5 years too late and it looks like it. Sega again has screwed a great line of games. All yeah, an it's on Wii so I know it will suck considering that it should have at least gone to either the PS3 or 360. Again Sega thanks for ruining another one of my favorites and I bought your stupid Master System back in 87' when I should have bought a NES. Sorry Wii Fanboys but it's true, THIS SUCKS MONKEYS.
OhJustSomeRandomGuy @ Jul 10th 2007 8:54PM
Apparently Joystiq thinks we're all Wii fanboys...which is why we're all Mario avatars... :(
Anyway, a sequel to NiGHTS that wasn't on the Saturn was going to be bad. Now you lose all the "breaking new ground" feeling of the game and the free-flight exploration is done by nearly every game in existence...
The writing was on the wall before this was announced, this one was going to be bad. If you were expecting anything else, you should know better after watching that trailer. Just think of everything else Sega's done recently, and you KNOW it isn't going to get ANY better. Just admit it and get it over with.
The real game that should be getting ported over to the Wii, Samba de Amigo, nobody seems to care about, and that's sad. Instead, Sega fans are going to drop tons of money on this soon-to-be waste of a game, and you'll get nothing you actually want.
GameSage @ Jul 23rd 2007 1:36AM
FACT: Actually, it HAD to be for the Wii. The only reason there hasn't been a sequel is because no console has brought anything new to present to the series. Advanced graphics isn't innovative, its just progress. The Wii is the first system in years that could somehow more immerse people in the world of NiGHTs.
ME: This also has to be on the Wii because the only games that appeal to 360 and PS3 users are "Lawl! I jus Kut uff joor head and made yoo bleed haha haa" Because they can't handle a story line that requires more than 3 seconds of focus.
V1L3 @ Jul 10th 2007 8:43PM
Okay, the trailer sucked... But I guess they're trying to nail that Disney demographic and sell more copies to non-hardcore gamers.
The graphics look pretty incredible... I can't think of a Wii game that's prettier.
As for the gameplay? The jury is 100% out. Either the person playing was also having his own "Journey of Dreams", or they have SEVERELY bumped down the speed factor - and my interest in the game, respectively.
Ritz @ Jul 10th 2007 8:47PM
I'm glad the graphics in motion are just that much better than the stills. Hopefully they nail the controls. Please, please.
Jack @ Jul 10th 2007 8:49PM
Between this and the Rock Band "trailer", the ESRB needs a "You must be this gay to play" disclaimer.
Steve @ Jul 10th 2007 9:16PM
Only you can make yourself feel gay, not some game. So, if you're getting a feeling of gayness, it comes from within you :)
Rubang B @ Jul 10th 2007 8:54PM
Looks pretty neat so far, but I'm assuming you do more stuff than just fly beyond the day.
The graphics are even shinier than Sonic and the Secret Rings. Sega is somehow the only third party actually trying to make games look nice on the Wii.
horngreen @ Jul 10th 2007 8:59PM
Wow I'm going to get a Wii...That or just plug back in my Saturn and play Nights on it as they look THE SAME!
laserboyjc @ Jul 10th 2007 10:15PM
I thought the same thing...I enjoyed Nights on the Saturn...though looking at the new game, it might be a little too trippy for me now...I'm sure the compressed video makes it look bad, but I was hoping for the graphics to look better. I remember being really impressed on the Saturn with the ground-warping level, and the levels with all the mirrors reflecting the characters. I'm sure this will be pretty good, but probably won't buy it this time around
t_m @ Jul 11th 2007 5:30AM
nah... that is just your memory playing tricks on you.. (like how the new tomb raider feels the same as the original tomb raider to me).
I'm playing NiGHTS on the saturn now, and the graphics are pretty terrible by modern standards.. makes it bretty hard to figure out what's going on.
Must have been pretty good at the time though..
Untamed @ Jul 10th 2007 9:04PM

Geist @ Jul 10th 2007 9:56PM
In a world with pigs in houses, one wolf is going to try to destroy it all.
Does one have the courage to stand up to evil?
Does one have the strength to defeat huffing and puffing?
Can three brothers unite to destroy oppression, or will it destroy them instead?
Sticks, Bricks, and Straw will face evil this summer.
The fate of a world is decided.
Delvin @ Jul 14th 2007 5:04PM
Ditto.
Steve @ Jul 10th 2007 9:18PM
See my reply to Jack below.
Renagade242 @ Jul 10th 2007 9:33PM
Nice voice for the trailer, I thought it was well placed in a series that has begged a sequel for far too long.
No anti-Nintendo here, I play with and enjoy my Wii (:-D) but I would like to say that the wii remote waving at the end (obviously) very out of place was the WORST. C'mon, lets see more pewpew, less marketing garbage.
Itsdanerfcoillol @ Jul 10th 2007 9:35PM
test
FolOnline @ Jul 10th 2007 9:55PM
wow. its still a trip to see Sega on a Nintendo system. Back when they were at the height of their console wars it was unthinkable. Imagine someone saying Sony will be developing games for MS (or vice versa) in 10 years. Fanboys would have exploding heads.
Oh, and the game does look very disney. I dont have a Wii (OMG that sounds wrong) so I wont be getting or playing this.
moominsean @ Jul 10th 2007 9:56PM
i always thought nights was kinda boring, personally. never made it past the first few areas. this looks like more of the same, except with added fruitiness.
HyperOnion @ Jul 10th 2007 9:57PM
When you all say "Disney" you mean "terrible Disney straight to VHS sequel", right? Because THAT'S what it looks like.
Ugh.
KiraXD @ Jul 10th 2007 10:06PM
"in a world!"
noooo not a world!???
i love the words that they show when the guy is talking... sooo ridiculous XD
Ajguy @ Jul 10th 2007 10:23PM
I wonder who did the trailer voice? It kinda sounds like Jim Cummings.
LuckyD @ Jul 10th 2007 10:30PM
it is me or people always based assumption on how a game will be by....just watching the trailer?
I mean the game is not released yet. Yeah graphically not too impressed for now(compare to Sonic Wii, RE4)but i give the benefit of the doubt
It is just a trailer, seeing in live while playing with the nunchuk in 16x9 and 480p should be way better than trying to grasp on a short small trailers! :P
but gameplay wise, I dunno but it intrigue me!
if it's sucks cuz u dont like what u saw, than too bad for u, u guys just limit urself by not playing a sequel to a lost Saturn gems, wait and try it before commenting
i may not buy a ps3 at all(wii60 to go due to limit funds and mostly TIME) but that doesnt mean i cant appreciate some neat game coming exclusevily for the PS3(heavenly sword, little big planet, etc) I will definitly play and enjoy them on my friends house, so no biggie!!
given sega track record, i hope nights turn out to be playable and enjoyable at the least(cross finger)
zwarrior @ Jul 10th 2007 11:01PM
very whimsical. But it still looks generic and mediocre. Sorry Night fans, this is not the sequel you should be looking forward to
Milkshake @ Jul 10th 2007 11:07PM
Apart from the Disney-esk trailer, I have high hopes for this game. When this came out for the Saturn people thought the same thing, that it looks kiddy and girlie, however I trusted the game reviews and I loved this game it was awesome. Up untill I have been hapy with my 360 and DS however if they nail the controls and give this good ratings then I am gonna get me a Wii just to play it.
Jonathan Tran @ Jul 10th 2007 11:13PM
If you have never played NiGHTS into Dreams, feel free to delete your comments.
Thanks.
This looks like at LEAST the concept is retained. I want to hear some of the original remixed music, as well as see the omnipresent timer, ticking its way to your DOOM!!
(when the timer finished the alarm clock went off and you woke up from the dreams, ending the level)
Platy @ Jul 10th 2007 11:23PM
i have hopes ... i mean ... it is sega and don't have sonic ... so it MUST show at least some .. creativity ?
must wait for the controls for more hype =x
Omega2k3 @ Jul 11th 2007 1:03AM
I gotta say, I'm loving the new 'Eff this guy's opinion', and 'Yeah, hop on the bandwagon' buttons.
Especially how you can't even read what they wrote when the text is highlighted.
Gotta love that censorship!
t_m @ Jul 11th 2007 5:44AM
yeah.. its a nice idea.. but it doesn't quite work.
YOu should at least be able to highlight the "one heart" posts to read them... but even then, they still take up a lot of the screen.
They should either reduce the text size for the one heart posts, or hide them in expandable boxes, showing only the first line. Kinda like DIGG does.
cybereality @ Jul 11th 2007 3:00AM
I'm not trying to be a fanboy. I honestly remember the Sega Saturn version having the same graphics (maybe even better). Sega Saturn people, not Dreamcast. We are talking about 2 generations ago.
I'll still get the game as the original NiGHTs was one of the best games of all time. I just can't say that video was impressive in the least.
t_m @ Jul 11th 2007 6:17AM
original saturn shots:
http://www.fortunecity.com/underworld/sonic/324/gamesc.htm
I can't work out whats going on in most of them.. which is the same problem i'm have playing the game ;-)
Nate Birch @ Jul 11th 2007 3:38AM
"I'm not trying to be a fanboy. I honestly remember the Sega Saturn version having the same graphics (maybe even better). Sega Saturn people, not Dreamcast. We are talking about 2 generations ago."
Yeah...well you honestly need to get your memory checked if you think that's what Saturn games looked like.
captain underpants and the bringdown gang @ Jul 11th 2007 4:16PM
I just creamed my mantees.
KeenCommander @ Jul 11th 2007 5:44PM
Why do so many people feel the need to bitch about the graphics. I think they look great, very well suited to the style of the game. I'll take low poly original graphics over ridiculously dark and overshadowed "realistic" 360 and PS3 games any day. The point of playing a game is for the GAME, not the shininess. Sometimes pretty graphics enhance a game (see BioShock) but there are other times when the game could be done just as well (gameplay-wise) with a lower level of graphics. Wii games only look slightly better than last-gen, deal with it. It's the actual game that counts. At least they aren't ridiculously overdone to the point where you need a HDTV just to enjoy the game. Most next-gen graphics (racing games being the exception) don't actually look that good, for God's sake.
rellik_san @ Jul 16th 2007 4:02AM
All the people saying its not the game they remember, that we should hold out... I've held out for a long time, and frankly, I'm glad its not the game I remember, not because I didn't absolutely adore that game (me and my best friend starting a new game every summer and playing it every hour of every day during the summer always besting our scores)But because NiGHTS into Dreams was such a complete experience, that to try to recreate that, would be insulting to the fans of the original. The point is, the fans took a chance with that game, now Sega are asking the same again of the new generation of fans.
They are asking, that we put down our preconcsptions and try something, not because its the best looking thing, not because its the most loved thing, not for some memory, but because, no other game is built on the concept of making you feel an emotion, who here, who actually played the original game, when they were a kid, when it first came out, didn't feel those heart strings pull when you had to jump off that ledge in Twin Seeds without NiGHTS? And who then disn't feel elation when those notes came to life on the flute and the character rose from the sky?
Unless your willing to be a kid again, you will never enjoy this game.
