How about Guitar Hero: International Edition.
Get to play songs from Mexico, Italy and other places.
And not just rock but other types of music with guitars in it as well.
I would buy a game like that.
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 10th 2007 2:35PM
Oh yes... there a lot (and I mean A LOT) of latin guitars players that are very very good.
They should put Rata Blanca - Preludio Obsesivo or Rata Blanca - La leyenda del Hada y el Mago. Excellents songs... Walter Giardino is a master on the guitar... way better than Slash.
Vash @ Jul 10th 2007 4:55PM
Ross, you are a tool-bag :P
CaptNink @ Jul 10th 2007 2:31PM
Thumbs up for Slash and the GnR track - thumbs down to the Pearl Jam track.
Burritoclock @ Jul 10th 2007 2:31PM
Wake me when Harmonix announces something...
1up @ Jul 10th 2007 2:32PM
Oh snap! The vs battles and boss battles look crazy.
sheppy @ Jul 10th 2007 2:34PM
Wow... so um....
Character models ripped from Tony Hawk
Versus Mode stolen from Pump It Up
Distinctive artistic style completely removed
GUI that BARELY relates to guitar equipment
And now washed out "Legends" pandering
I guess like Spiderman 3 before it, Activision has a gift at destroying successful franchises by the time the third one comes out.
Rock Band, hurry up!
Jacob P. @ Jul 10th 2007 2:37PM
Wait...How do you steal a versus mode? Isn't it just...two people...doing the same thing...to see who does better?
Not mouthing your argument, cause I do agree with pretty much everything else you said...that just kinda threw me off...
sheppy @ Jul 10th 2007 2:46PM
I can understand the Versus mode being confusing if you've never tried Pump It Ups battle mode. It basically works like this, as you string together combos, Attacks enter the arrows. Usually out of the way or broken out of the tradition song step patterns. These attacks modify your opponents screen. They do anything from switching their steps to "Crazy" (The PIU equivelant of Expert) to speeding up or even removing the indicators past a certain point. So in other words, as you Attack... you handicap the opposing players ability to play. It's fun, especially as you're playing "Venice Beach" rules... before they kick you out of the arcade...
In Guitar Hero III, there is a "dueling" mode where combos score "attacks" you can do to adjust your opponents strings. Including making the indicators disappear, forcing the whammy to be strung before your field "drops" so you can hit points again, even upping the difficulty for a period of time or speeding up the buttons.
rboyce @ Jan 1st 2009 4:01PM
Just a quick point, the battle mode was also featured in the DDR-like "In The Groove" which was published by Red Octane, who published Guitar Hero I and II. (The company is now owned by Activision.) So really, Activision is just ripping off their own game. :) (Although it does seem that In The Groove was stealing the battle mode from Pump It Up - like it stole the entire concept of the game from DDR.)
Jacob P. @ Jul 10th 2007 3:17PM
Oh...Well then...thanks for the clarification.
sheppy @ Jul 10th 2007 3:26PM
Who are you who is wise to the ways of dancing games? For the record, the main reason why Andamira lost the lawsuit to DDR wasn't because of the gameplay itself, but rather the Benami interface which was patented. And they both borrowed heavily from each other. Like Freeze Steps were in Pump before DDR, so on and so forth.
Frankly speaking, I just prefered Pump because the layout was better thought out and the music selection was MUCH better. You could tech the game or freestyle, both were heavily supported by the game. Makes me wish my local arcade would upgrade to NX, we're still on Exceed 2.
john @ Jul 10th 2007 2:35PM
Has he done anything interesting in the past 10 years?
Burritoclock @ Jul 10th 2007 2:38PM
Oh and also you say "unnamed pearl jam" in the post and the trailer clearly says "Even Flow", so yeah... not unnamed?
Buckshot @ Jul 10th 2007 2:42PM
Looks Hella Cool
NX013 @ Jul 10th 2007 2:49PM
It aso says that the game is coming this October. And Rock Band is coming a month later, hmmm.
Isaiah Fuller @ Jul 25th 2007 4:28PM
If GH3 comes out, then Rock Band, with all the features, GH3 is going to bomb.
konajinx @ Jul 10th 2007 2:49PM
The onyl way I'm ever wasting money on another GH game is if they add Elvis presley's rendition of "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" into the song list.
Zach @ Jul 10th 2007 2:53PM
Sheppy, must you rag on and be underwhelmed by EVERYTHING? Get over yourself and just play some fucking games instead of complaining.
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 10th 2007 2:58PM
Its because sheppy sucks on Guitar Hero... I bet everything that I play a lot better than sheppy (in any game)
sheppy @ Jul 10th 2007 3:03PM
I normally pour myself upon the tear soaked pages of Dear Diary but it was stolen from under my pillow by a luchador who was still upset that I called the Make A Wish Foundation on him for making up his illness for a free date with J-Lo. I was all like "He's not a kid, he's just latin!"
He, in turn, used this diary and it's typical evil diatribes to inform PETA on me. After skinning 4800 puppies in front of a live studio audience to make a luxury car cover for my uncles semi, they bombed my TV station and removed the other area of venting I once had.
Now broken and censored, I display my bitterness for all on the flamewar doused servers of Joystiq. Just for you, Zach.
sheppy @ Jul 10th 2007 3:45PM
I have never laid claim to "roxxoring your sox off" on Guitar Hero. In fact, I've stated several times, I'm still on hard ranking. As for beating me in other games, no clue.
How about this? Add me, NME Se7eN to your friends list and if I feel like some competition, I may play against you. You'll rarely see me online until mid August, however. Because in my current apartment, I have to disconnect my router to connect my 360 directly.
Ryan @ Jul 10th 2007 5:01PM
This So called "unamed" track happens to be Even Flow not unless they have 2 PJ songs
But yeah IGN even said that they added "Even Flow- By Pearl Jam"
Shockgamer @ Jul 10th 2007 3:01PM
Wait, so BOTH Rock Band and Guitar Hero 3 have "Welcome to the Jungle?"
If so, then this will probably be the song that proves the difference between Harmonix and Neversoft. I expect Harmonix to have better notes, but if Neversoft keeps the transition/middle of the song I might prefer their version.
Michael McGuire @ Jul 10th 2007 3:24PM
Harmonix has already said that the song featured in the leaked video ("Welcome to the Jungle") was there for the demo and that a decision to get it in the game hadn't been made yet. They said if there were to include it, they would still need to get the licensing, etc. for it.
Aex @ Jul 10th 2007 3:00PM
Wow, I didn't know it had Cherub Rock, Sabotage, Paint it black, School's out, AND another queens of the stone age song... Only 15 songs out, At least 15 more to go, needless to say, I'm looking forward to it!
Not so much looking forward to rock band tho... They put a Nirvana song in it, meaning if I want to beat the game, I'd have to trudge through it... probably multiple times...
UpIrons @ Jul 10th 2007 3:02PM
Now I don't know if anyone else out there already thought of this, but I was just thinking...
If all the games will have some kind of support for motion controls, could this be why the Wii is priced at a little bit less than the xbox360 and ps3 versions?
I mean, why else would you just place the Wii controller inside the guitar? Whereas the PS3 and Xbox controllers wouldn't feasibly fit so they just added in the additional electronics for motion controls.
I assume the motion controls will be for "tricks" like maybe swinging the guitar around your neck or playing with your teeth... LOL
EMaster @ Jul 10th 2007 3:03PM
I am buying this game just so I can rock to Even Flow...an excuse to feel like I am 14 again.... Excuse me I got something in my eye...
Ant @ Jul 10th 2007 3:07PM
man i cant wait to buy this!more songs is all i need from GH
FrankTheCrank @ Jul 10th 2007 3:12PM
I'm just pissed PS3 players don't get the Kramer body guitar, instead we get that retarded white Gibson.
Kramer bodies were all the rage back in the hair band era. Now if I could just paint some Eddie Van Halen stripes on it.
Jason @ Jul 10th 2007 3:12PM
Gameplay aside, GH3's tracklist just KILLS Rock Band's so far... Good thing I can use my GH guitar with RB, but I need to hear a more complete list.
Brian @ Jul 10th 2007 3:28PM
So is this going to be another, admittedly fun, game with like two decent songs and alot of retarded hair metal and alt-rock? Is it so much to ask to get a Johnny Marr song?
Oh and Slash is the second most overrated guitarists of all time behind Buckethead.
miguelon918 @ Jul 10th 2007 3:51PM
Buckethead overrated??? are you insane??? also Slash???? what is a good gutiarist to you? the fall out boy dude?...
murph @ Jul 10th 2007 3:48PM
F Slash. Where's Angus?!?!
Brian @ Jul 10th 2007 4:05PM
Who cares, every AC/DC song is the exact same thing. You can edit the verse of any song with the chorus of any other and I defy anyone to tell the difference. Except for the HILARIOUS (read: idiotic) "Big Balls" of course.
Banana Kid @ Jul 10th 2007 8:18PM
HELL YES ROCK YOU LIKE A HURRICANE. If they can keep getting all these hits, GHIII will definitely beat Rock Band's so-so lineup.
Brian @ Jul 10th 2007 4:03PM
@miguelon918,
sorry haven't figured out the reply system yet. Anyway, yes they are both hideously overrated. all they do is pound out power chords and make squeegly sounds that delight people with no actual concept of counterpoint or melody. I prefer more pop oriented guitarists like Johnny Marr (of The Smiths, The Healers, and the latest Modest Mouse album) as well as the angular postpunk guitarists like David Byrne (Talking Heads), Martin Brammah (The Fall) as well as some of the great shoegaze guitarists like Kevin Shields (My Bloody Valentine) and David Pajo (Slint). Oh and Frank Zappa.
Although maybe I was a little drastic, I mean you have to put Joe Satriani and Steve Vai as 1 and 2. Slash and that retard with the fried chicken on his dome are still 3 and 4 though, unless Avenged Sevenfold continues to make records despite their innumerable crimes against music in which case one of their shitty guitarists with the oh-so-sinister-and-evil pseudonym will rocket up the list.
Brian @ Jul 10th 2007 4:06PM
Excuse the missed capitalization and the repetition of "as well" in my list of guitar players, thank you.
Burritoclock @ Jul 11th 2007 11:22AM
No, I will not excuse it. You have committed a comment post sin that is unforgivable!
jvigier7 @ Jul 10th 2007 5:09PM
I might pick this game up for the first time
With the ps3 lowered down i might pick it up which will make choosing between different system versions harder with me already having a wii60.
Fun Fact: Slash is half-black
whosmav @ Jul 10th 2007 5:51PM
Slash is maybe the best rock guitar player. This validates all the hype and I might actually have to get this game. But is it more fun than playing guitar for real?
muchmaligned @ Jul 10th 2007 5:52PM
David:
you can't use a crappy journalistic cliche like "angular post-punk" unless you immediately follow it up by name-dropping Andy Gill of Gang of Four. shame on you.
Brian @ Jul 10th 2007 6:26PM
True, but as a bass player I mainly listen to Gang of Four for Dave Allen's funky lines.
muchmaligned @ Jul 10th 2007 5:57PM
i meant "Brian," not "David."
i can't believe dudes are bitching about Slash when the real hacks are Pearl Jam. awful, awful band.
rockeranimefreak @ Jul 10th 2007 6:12PM
woohooo rock and roll!!!!!!!! 4 life! :) YESSS!!! GO Slash!
obo @ Jul 10th 2007 8:31PM
I hope this doesn't suck. I really do. I'm not buying a 360/PS3 + new guitars + game just for Rock Band.
This is going to have to hold me over until the PS3 or 360 drop to at least $300.
Abscissa @ Jul 11th 2007 4:59PM
Wow, there were some damn good songs listed in there. A first for Neversoft. Too bad the characters look straight out of Tony Hawk, though. The animation in particular looked pretty bad. Not that any of that will stop me from getting it though.
chandler @ Jul 29th 2007 6:12PM
Man its a good line up
i love to see beastie boys rolling stones and pearl jam
it will rock
i reserved 1 today

This looks bad ass. I like the idea of bosses. Other than a few songs like Welcome to the Jungle I'm not a big fan of 80s Rock, but Guitar Hero 3 doesn't have as much as it as past GH games. The Guitar Hero 3 Soundtrack is easily the best of the series so far. I listened to the whole thing on this Guitar Hero 3 soundtrack website. I recognize at least 3/4 of the songs after listening to them. I went ahead and pre-ordered the game from RedOctane's website to get the free stuff. Can't wait till October 29th!
