Soul Calibur Legends on Wii trailer
In a world, where battle armor is nothing but a string top, comes Soul Calibur Legends for the Wii ... and most everyone is fully clothed. The Soul Calibur spin-off is an action-adventure title that lets you play as your favorite characters from the game, minus the whole one-on-one fighting.
The trailer shows off some basic Wii controls and talks about joining forces with another character. Whether that means your companion is AI controlled or is actually in the hands of another player is still unknown. We just hope it controls better than the similarly looking in principal, Prince of Persia: Dual Swords. Heading into the first anniversary of the Wii it'd be nice to see third-party developers using the Wii controls and having it feel responsive in an action game. Down with the feel of waggle, it can be done.

Looks like a game I didn't want to play on the 64.
Thank god everyone else is getting SCIV
Ken @ Jul 10th 2007 9:20PM
I'll buy it. The game looks pretty cool, but one question:
Was that split screen for two players? Or was that just showing what the other guy (probably CPU) was doing?
mroca @ Jul 10th 2007 9:22PM
Soul Calibur 2 and SSBM where the two reasons I still have my gamecube. I will be picking this game up when released!

Looks pretty sweet. I just hope it plays as good as it looks.
Ian Von Porter @ Jul 10th 2007 9:29PM
Even the GC had a REAL Soul Caliber game... wtf is this lame piece of crap? Looks like an n64 title.
zwarrior @ Jul 10th 2007 10:50PM
At least spell it right. Soul CalibUr
Spartacus @ Jul 10th 2007 9:36PM
This is one genre where gesture controls could be severely handicapped compared to buttons if not REALLY implemented properly. How would you pull off a power combo in tight sequence? The Wii will either excell (ie: power moves are TOO easy as all they take is a corosponding movement compared to a 14 button combination on a regular pad) or totally suck (14 gestures are required to map to the 14 buttons, hence killing your right arm) in this department.
Itsdanerfcoillol @ Jul 10th 2007 9:36PM
"Looks like a game I didn't want to play on the 64.

I would rather play this than SC4, you are just being a fanboy.
BPM @ Jul 10th 2007 11:15PM
Some could say the same about you. :)
As for me? I want both Legends and SCIV. So, I can't wait for those Falcon 360s and a price drop (or two).
Hunter @ Jul 10th 2007 9:37PM
Cue graphical complaints on unfinished game. The game looks fine to me. I have read up on the controls and they are doing a lot of smart things including the speed of the swing deciding the power of the attack. It is in the latest Nintendo Power you can read it at the local grocery store while your girlfriends shops for whatever chicks buy.
Qitsyoj @ Jul 10th 2007 9:40PM
And that's how Twilight Princes' controls should have worked.
kornchild2002 @ Jul 10th 2007 9:44PM
Graphical complaints aside, it looks like an interesting game. I just hope that they can pull off the control scheme. Now, back to the graphics. Everyone knows that the Wii is not a graphical powerhouse. I still cannot believe that people are still harping over the graphics. Developers can also push the Wii further but they would rather just use older graphics engines instead of shelling out the cash and actually developing something new.
Ryuukuro @ Jul 11th 2007 11:39AM
I'd rather they focus on getting the gameplay right before pushing graphics. You're a voice of reason but I bet most developers just hear people whining about the graphics. Those people whine about the gameplay after the release and then whine about how devs just focus on the graphics. And then the whiners find another game in development and whine about it's graphics and then...
Ugh. Vicious cycle.
ChuckSteak0331 @ Jul 10th 2007 9:44PM
what time was that MS conference? Why all the wii news.
ChuckSteak0331 @ Jul 10th 2007 9:46PM
wow nevermind. Just being slow.
accidental @ Jul 10th 2007 9:48PM
Ken, the split screen is co-op gameplay.
Ken @ Jul 10th 2007 10:50PM
Sweet. I loves me some local coop games!
Angelo @ Jul 10th 2007 9:53PM
"principle", not "prinicpal"
Mr Khan @ Jul 10th 2007 9:54PM
I'd say the character models look pretty good
everything else is kind of meh, graphically
should be a nice title, though...
super joe @ Jul 10th 2007 9:55PM
This game sucks because it's not on par with the graphics of the PS3. Not to mention how the SIXASIX does motion sensing way better than the Wii's gimmicky and childish fairy wand. Sony fanboys should take a rest because I think I've got you covered on this one.
BPM @ Jul 10th 2007 11:17PM
I have to upvote you, Joe, because you've made a post far dumber than anything even Shag or rfom could've written.
And for it to be THAT dumb, I think it must be satire.
phuink @ Jul 10th 2007 9:55PM
I'm a fanboy because I happen to not like how the game looks?
Honestly, I wish developers would take the time to design a decent fighting game for the Wii; the control scheme could really change the way fighters are played.
generaldane @ Jul 10th 2007 9:55PM
my issue with this game so far is the camera it looks horrible
shaoron @ Jul 10th 2007 10:01PM
i'd love to have a one on one duel with this... but then again.. i'm afraid that my mitsu user friend (whom we call "Cheap-surugi") would beat the crap out of me.. both in the game and outside the game with the wiimote...
Jonathan Tran @ Jul 10th 2007 10:01PM
Man at the end, those enemies fired so many arrows, I'd bet that would blot out the sun.
generaldane @ Jul 10th 2007 10:15PM
we then we would have to fight in the shade
DVersion @ Jul 10th 2007 10:01PM
maybe they should fix that camera or somthing. hopefully that was just for athestic purposes to demonstrate umm.. not the graphics...but do demonstrate somthing...i think.
Negativecool @ Jul 10th 2007 10:12PM
"Hown your sweet bowstaff skills"
I'd buy a Wii for that...I really would.
Purple Haze @ Jul 10th 2007 10:12PM
I don't see anything wrong with this games so far, and of the announced games on the wii this is the only non nintendo game I plan to buy.
dapharmer @ Jul 10th 2007 10:18PM
i'm sorry but after playing the original soul calibur on the dreamcast and an arcade box for the past 3 weeks straight .. there is no excuse for how piss poor the graphics on this title look. It looks worse then a dreamcast title.. way.. to.. go .. wii
LuckyD @ Jul 10th 2007 10:18PM
@superjoe
u can give a judgement about the game when u have ACTUALLY played it, it is not even out, u single mind brainwashed FANBOY! LOL
tsk the motion sensing in the sixaxis is actually gimmicky, cuz they add it at the last minute in order to replace the last gen rumble and to copy one aspect of the wii
but featuring only 1 single motion, no sensor, no speaker and rumble support(we are still waiting for the rumble controller released)
the funny thing is that everyone know the wii is not graphically as powerfull as the 360 and ps3
yet power alone is not enough but how u used it
the ps3 is supposed to be all end all system, but we know how that fair out
the supposely powerful ps3 cannot even distance itself from the 360(madden running at 30fps on ps3 vs 60fps ROFLOL OMG the MADNESS)
heck soul calibur 4 is coming on the 360 too
plus we get Katamari this time(maybe on wii too)
a wii60 combo is good, u get the best of both world
HD goodness with 360 with superior standard controller and the more complete motion/waggle/sensing/whateverUnameIt Wii control
360 is following more in the footstep of the ps2 whereas sony "try" to go the route of the xbox with graphics and still we are gonna see if the psnetwork matches the live...guess not
the wii is different beast altogether, reaching for the mass and making gaming more accessible
u can whine all u want, but u are missing out great experience by just sticking with "1" console
i always choose 2 consoles, cuz a 3rd one is the odd man sticking out and getting less play(and eating dusk) ps2/gc now wii60
super joe @ Jul 11th 2007 1:51AM
I was being sarcastic! What the fuck is wrong with you? I'm Wii60 FTW.
Shagittarius @ Jul 10th 2007 10:24PM
I think joystiq accidentally posted Battle Arena Toshinden 2 gameplay video.
tehpyro @ Jul 10th 2007 10:25PM
no link?!?!?! WTF?
kingofwale @ Jul 10th 2007 10:27PM
wow, horrible camera angles, Please tell me that when they MAKE a trailer, at least they go back and edit out all the shots with bad camera angle. :)
Trust me, I get why people rush out a game on Wii, but is there a need to rush out a trailer that openly expose a game's flaw? :)
Vidikron @ Jul 10th 2007 10:34PM
Honestly, it looks rather generic. If this game didn't have the Soul Calibur characters I don't think it would be as big a deal as some people want to make it out to be.
Anyway, as to this comment:
"Whether that means your companion is AI controlled or is actually in the hands of another player is still unknown. "
Unless they just put the two videos together that way, it certainly looks like they showed split screen for a couple of seconds during the video. If so, that would clearly indicate co-op.
oni-link @ Jul 10th 2007 10:38PM
The Wii is finally getting top tier games. MP3, Brawl, RE:UC, and SC:legends is definetly on my must buy list!!! Graphically, it probably looks like a 6th-7th generation GCN game (which is around 1st generation PS3 games like GENJI-2 if it's in SDTV) which is fine by me. Besides Nintendo console games don't drop so much in price unlike it's PS3 or 360 counterparts. Looks like Wii will own PS3 again!!!
Vidikron @ Jul 10th 2007 10:43PM
Damn, did we watch different videos? It's not even close to first gen PS3 games. I looks like a mid-gen PS2 game, IMO.
Slvrgun @ Jul 10th 2007 10:43PM
This game looks absolutely terrible trailer wise. I can't say too much regarding gameplay seeing as to how I haven't actually played the game but my god it does look worst than the Dreamcast version of the beloved series. It doesn't look like Namco even tried.
zwarrior @ Jul 10th 2007 10:49PM
I saw a lot of action, but no adventure
zwarrior @ Jul 10th 2007 10:53PM
I agree with the smart comments here, this game does look generic. It's more like a licensed game with Soul Calibur characters
That deaf guy @ Jul 10th 2007 10:52PM
Bwuh... the Wii has been out for a while now and yet people still complain about the graphics. I think by now it should have sunk in that the Wii's graphics aren't gonna be on par with the 360 and PS3 so stop beating the dead horse there's nothing left but a skeleton. Yes I know my comment won't move bridges, but i'd at least remind people. (i'm not a fanboy don't hurt me! I love games not consoles.)
On topic the game does look interesting I'd give it a try even though I barely played any of the soul cailber games.(I fail at fighters) I hope the controls will be spot on, as well as having decent co-op because i'm a man that loves co-op games.
Slvrgun @ Jul 10th 2007 11:06PM
I don't think that really the issue, that the graphics aren't on par with either the Xbox 360 or the PS3. The problem is many of the games don't look any better than PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, or sometimes even Dreamcast games. For a console that is supposedly more powerful than an Xbox you kind of expect more. This is just unacceptable.
Vidikron @ Jul 10th 2007 11:11PM
I think most people realize that. I know what has disappointed me about the graphics (and I'm sure many others as well), is that the vast majority of the Wii games don't even look as good as many later GC games. Given that the Wii is supposed to be more powerful than the GC, I would have hoped that the worst looking games at least matched the best GC games. But so far that has been far from what has actually happened.
bounchfx @ Jul 10th 2007 11:09PM
Ugh! It's not even on par with the ps2!
how can companies be proud of this kind of stuff?
I can't wait for SC4.. but this.. is just scary

You do have a point there. I think that some developers are slacking with the Wii. Instead of using all the power the little Wii's heart has they just do a half-baked job and call it a day.
p.s. whats with these little hearts? Should i love them? Fear them? Respect them, while keeping a watchful eye?
Platy @ Jul 10th 2007 11:16PM
looks REALLY interesting ... co-op is always welcome
Just hope that the camera distance can be changed in mutiplayer
Freelance @ Jul 10th 2007 11:20PM
can someone say lame attempt to get in on the Wii hype(and I really love soul calibur game!)
ShortFuse @ Jul 10th 2007 11:29PM
Everything looks as good as I hoped it would be, somethings better.
The only complaint I have is that Taki still has that muzzle. What gives!?
