Uhhh.... sure sony took a risk with including a Blu ray drive. If either of the competitor included a next gen format, what would their price be?

good to see ps3 fanboy trying provocative posts to bump up the number of hits and comments, lately.
i think $100 off is awesome, capable of hugely increasing sales- just that if you want to reach 100m plus again you'll need to eventually reach sub $200, even if it takes 5 years.

Ok, before the trolls start in on this, RTFA (Read The F*cking Article): **However, a Square Enix spokesperson said, "At previous E3s and other shows we've announced different Final Fantasies for different platforms, and I think that will continue."**

There you have it, from SE itself! FF EVERYWHERE - but not necessarily FFXIII! =P

Take that one, trolls!

If only we still had our cheap SKU. The issue here is that the price of entry is still $500. The people who didn't have $500 for a 20GB still won't have $500 for the 60GB. Sony's essentially sweetened the deal, not lowered the cost of owning a PS3.

looking at the trend that's been occuring, i wouldn't be surprised if SE somehow provides groundbreaking news and announces that FFXIII will go multiplatform.

it's like a balancing act...
not enough units in homes means less incentive to develop exclusively for the PS3.
but FFXIII alone could very well push millions of PS3 units.

Square should do the right thing
and stick it out with Sony.
everybody's girlfriend has had "one of those days."
Sony's no exception, heh.

A rundown of MS' E3

First, the biggest piece of news: Gears of War to PC
The only “great” exclusive on 360 for 18 months, no longer an exclusive - will be on PC, with a M-KB combo, free multiplayer, Five new single player levels. Man, buying that RROD console was worth it – anyone paid USD100 for those 2 years of multiplayer?

And MS has announced Halo 4!
Ooops no sorry, it seems it’s the HALO HALO HALO “the only game that matters” special edition gray console, a new better way to pay, sorry play

1 Ten minutes of HALO HALO HALO “the only game that matters”
2 New IPs - “Viva Pinata party”, “Scene It” with THE remote. NO new decent exclusive – thank god Mass Effect out this year, that leaves 2008 almost a complete blank versus 15 PS3 exclusives
3 “largest installed base with 5.6 million units in the US. ... outselling PS3 by nearly two to one”
Brilliant Republican style spin. Neglect to add “two to one” only in US, getting whopped elsewhere or largest base solely because of one-year lead, sales barely ahead of PS3 worldwide despite USD200 price gap.
4 “Since November, Xbox 360 third party games have cracked the top 10 list 18 times. Number of Wii and PS3 titles: zero, nil."” “Half of all consumer spending in this generation is on the Xbox 360.”
Obviously, launching a super-defective console one year early has its merits
5 “This year's EA Sports games will be "twice as fast" as last year's games.”
???
6 “Only console that has GTA, Halo and Madden this holiday is”
Two non-exclusives and of course, HALO HALO HALO “the only game that matters” – who cares for Metroid Prime, Mario Galaxy, Lair, Ratchet, Heavenly, etc etc
7 “Xbox Live has more than 7 million members”
How many Gold members? How many 360 units? Of course not, we don’t lie, we just neglect to tell the truth.
8 “The video store is the fastest growing part of Xbox Live.”
I thought it was a gaming console blah blah?
9 “Disney movie titles are coming to Xbox Live”
AND exclusive on Blu-Ray
10 “Exclusive multiplayer beta of CoD4 coming to Xbox Live”
AT LAST a new exclusive for 360
11 A bunch of non-exclusives
12 A final trailer of HALO HALO HALO “the only game that matters”
13 Ends with "It's the greatest lineup in video game history” with, er, the same number of good exclusives as PS3 / wii – but of course there is HALO HALO HALO “the only game that matters”

I think rfom is bitter that he doesn't get to play Halo 3.

Anyway, if you want to read an objective recap of the MS e3 event, check out joystiq.com.

Wow, rfom, glad to see you followed the MS press conference so closely. Obvious by your tone that you're just jealous of the success of MS and the impending failure of PS3. Sorry you don't have an awesome exclusive like Halo 3. Yes, it is the only exclusive that matters. No PS3 game has or likely will generate the type of buzz and 4 million pre-order anticipation that Halo 3 has seen. Sweet, COD 4 Beta! Oh, and I'll also be enjoying MoH: Airborne in August. Let me know how it is when it finally ships for PS3 in October. Haha.

Why would a person care if a title is on multi platforms. If I had stock "which is the driving force of these companies (Money)" it just makes sense to go multi.

It's like having the #1 album in the US but refusing to release it and make money in Europe.

Konami and Square know that if they release the game on 360 they will double there profits for the year.

CEO's love doubling profit margins.

I would suggest buying both stocks now. If they do go 360 they will go through the roof. If the PS3 sales pick up and they don't go multi the stock will still make you money.

Rfom- Are you on Sony's pay roll. Otherwise I just don't understand the fanboyism.

I hope who ever continues to make these type of comments is under the age of 16.

I just want to play the best games. I really could care less what system they are on.

You need to blame Sony for pricing themselves out the market.

langx - If a developer/publisher goes multi platform (in this case you're talking about two platforms, PS3 and Xbox360) then the companies will not double their respective 'profit margins'. They can potentially double their respective profits but, unless there is a change in pricing and significant economies of scale attributable to the porting of a game from one console to another, the 'profit margin' will likely remain constant.

Some of these companies seem to be acting as if they would rather NO PRICE CUT, rather than a $100 USD cut... =( ...makes no sense to me.

don't get me wrong - I love SE and their games dearly - but they're not exactly in the position to complain about high prices - if I got that right especially in Japan their games are priced a lot higher than others and people still buy them

I'm still waiting to get a european PS3 so I'm all for a price cut of course.

Of course developers are saying the price cut wasn't enough. What harmful effect could doing so have on them. EA could come out tomorrow and say the PS3 should be $200US, and everyone would speculate. The truth is that this is a free way to earn points with gamers that has no adverse effect on them personally.

I don't like people calling it a price cut. Before, a PS3 was $500 or $600, then the "price cut", and now it's still $500 or $600. If they had kept the 20g and made that $400, then it could be considered a price cut, but it's right now more akin to packaging in a little some thing extra.

20,

Something that used to cost $600 now costs $500. That is a price cut.

These developers are speaking too quickly. The price drop has already made a significant impact(i.e. Amazon) and I think they'll be eating their words after we see July sales come out. 100 bucks off is just enough for me to purchase it. Mmmm, Ninja Gaiden. . . .

The SONY stance originally was PS3 STARTING AT 499. Then at one point they ditch the 499 model. Leaving the PS3 at 599. Then they push that model down to 499.

Yeah, semantically its a price drop- but its also "not" one in theory.

But still its the 60gb that was previously 599 is now 499. = price drop.

On another note, i would have liked to see that Price sit at 450. THAT would have made a super impact hole in everyone's thoughts.

This just in. M$ is now getting sued and facing thier 1st lawsuit regarding the 360's defectiveness. Many more are sure to follow in line, this will hurt M$ big time. I can't say I feel bad, thats what you get for jumpng the gun and releasing a defective system before its ready, GREEDY!! Don't believe me, here's the source: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6174043.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=morenews&tag=morenews;title;4

I bought a playstation 3 and resistance and a blu-ray dvd for £425...which is about $850...

Yes i spent alot, but the PS3 is much more than a games console. I can watch blu-ray films on it, which look amazing on my HDTV. I can play music from the hard-drive in the PS3, surf the web, put the Linux OS on the PS3, it's a home entertainment system! Oh, did i mention it's got 7 cores running at 3.2ghz? This makes for a monster machine with a HUGE amount of power. So far, games look amazing on it, and they're not even using the full potential. Imagine when they use the full potential of the PS3!

The Xbox 360 and Wii are cheaper for a reason. The reason being: They're not worth as much as the PS3 from a hardware perspective, and lets face it, the Nintendo Wii FEELS cheap... The 360 has the red-ring problem, (33%) of them anyway...

The PS3 is a quality machine which will not break on you unless you suddenly decide to stomp on it because Resistance - Fall Of Man is too difficult...

So back to the price issue:

My friends wont buy a PS3 yet because they think it's too expensive. It probably is too expensive , but i've stated why it's worth its money. Another thing is that, you have to pay for Xbox Live, PS3 Networks are FREE!!! Meaning it's paying for itself, none of that yearly/monthly subscription like with the Xbox.

I think, REALISTICALLY, the PS3 needs to be priced at £200 (in the UK) for it to rocket out of the stores. It may be a long wait, but Sony are making sure people know this console is worth every penny of it's value now, so when it eventually has a big price cut, people think they're saving a HUGE amount off of the RRP, and flock to buy it.

SquareEnix, shut up and put out a game. Nothing coming to mid to late 2008 why do you care, the PS3 will probalby have several price drops by the time you wander into the market! I would maybe pay $1000 for PS3 if FF13 came out today. The price of the PS3 is moot if there are awesome games for it, stop bitching and work on the games, and leave such particulars as game console marketing to Sony.
