Planned for release in 2001, Affinix Software was ready to put the final touches on Infinity, a role playing title for the Game Boy Color. Unfortunately publishers were already looking ahead to the Game Boy Advance and all the pretty pictures it could display. Infinity was never released, Affinix was eventually dissolved, and the game was left to sit on its creators' hard drives for years. But a Lost Levels forum member unearthed a video of the game in action (watch it after the jump) and suddenly Infinity finds itself the recipient of some well-deserved attention.
In early February a news post on the Affinix website mentioned the possible release of an Infinity ROM. We contacted project leader Justin Karneges to get an updated status on the game. According to him, Infinity is very close to being complete and just needs a few story points linked together, spells filled in, and a final boss programmed. In addition to himself, one more team member is needed to tie up the loose ends, everything else is ready to roll. You can even download the full soundtrack from composer Eric Hache's website. As for the ROM: "There's no need to talk us into releasing a ROM. If we had a finished game, it would be released.".
Infinity could be a breathtaking game, or it could turn out to be a dud. We won't know until we get to play it, and we're itching to take her for a spin. If you need us, we'll be consulting our astrologers to make sure the stars are in perfect alignment to get this game into the wild.

the graphics look way worse than an RPG I have on my cell phone, but it can still be fun and the music is nice...by the way, I'm enjoying playing my way through Paper Mario, but am I the only one that wishes that Mario's face wouldn't show up on EVERY comment? Come on Joystiq, when will you unleash the ability for us to choose avatars?

I'm not too impressed...I don't see why it's so great.

Wow, that was an EXCELLENT song. I wasn't interested at all, but for some reason, that song was totally captivating. Count me interested!

During that era, Rez Evil also was in the works, and it looked really good for GBC hardware! But since GBA was near launch... a lot of these titles never got to see the light of day..

I would play it now. I hope they do release it. But i know the graphic whores of today will bash it into the ground.
Also i bet if someone like cliffy b. released an old game that he made back in the day before he become famous, that looked something like this.
The dick suck praising would be mega loud. Everyone around the world would be able to hear it. That's how many graphic whores would be on their knees.
Just because his name is attach to it.

Indeed, isn't it annoying that we're going that way?

I don't know if this is any good or not, but we miss out on indy console games like this because they can't easly get someone to publish it. Anybody remember Mythri?
I bet if you took the talent of, say, someone from the Mythri team and put them to work on a known franchise, tons of people would take note of the high quality gameplay, but on a non-franchise game? Well neither of these games were even published!

That game looks ASTOUNDINGLY good for a GBC game, and if the in game music sounds anything like the music in the video I'll be blown away. That has to be an immense rom size for a GBC game. Here's hoping we get a rom release, here's hoping even more for a cart release!

Looks nifty, and it could be ported to the nes or something. I find the battle system interesting, and fast moving for a GBC game. I would have bought it, if it had been released, myself.

This is just a GBC game for me, to be left in the dust.... but that soundtrack was so damned good that I think that it deserves a second chance. =)
Up your development costs and time, and revamp this for the DS just like Square Enix did with FF3, and you have yourself a winner!

Well, for what it's worth, I knew one of the people who worked on this game. He brought it out once when it was mostly done, and on the Game Boy color (especially before the release of the GBA), this game looked amazing. I didn't get to play it much (maybe about 10 minutes), but I thought it was good. With that short of play time though, my opinion probably isn't worth much there; although I know it wasn't unplayable or anything like that.

Just to let you know that it's Eric Hache and not Hachem. Be sure to check his other music on ocremix.org. (Final Fantasy 7 - Acoustic fireworks is pretty good)
