Well, Wii Fit looks surprisingly cool. And Mario Kart online=awesome.
Most surprisingly, though, is that Mario Galaxy AND Smash Bros. are coming out this year after all. I fully expected Galaxy to get a delay.

...but I thought Nintendo was going to supposedly announce a returning franchise or something? Kid Icarus will have to wait some more, it'd seem.

I'm not disappointed, but I'm not exactly jumping for joy or anything, either.

Positive: Dates for what will arguably be two of the blockbusters of this Fall, a few new games with online play (Mario Kart Wii being the most exciting of those), and boatload of games for the casual market. WiiFit actually looks fairly interesting and I think it is the right product (being health related) at the right time (too many people are overweight).

Negative: Online issues were not considered, too much talking and not enough demos, not too many games were mentioned.

I just wish people who stop with the fanboy nonsense or at least not thinking that this event should blow your mind. Microsoft did a fine job with their time of the stages and so did Nintendo. My major concern is how well is all of this stuff going to work? Will MP3 benefit from the Wii remote? IGN has expressed their opinion that it is amazing. I really want to hear how well it plays. How about the next Mario or Brawl? Will the zapper or the Kart wheel improve game play? I mean, if that Kart wheel thing made the next Mario Kart a remarkable and super fun experience, would people still complain? Nintendo is taking risks here, people, to reach out to new markets while trying to make games easier and funnier. If they fail, then we all lose. If they success, we all benefit.

Wow..it kicked off and I thought that it was going to be an amazing E3 presentation. But overall I'm left unimpressed. A bunch of dates for already announced games, two renders of hardware we knew was coming, and an aerobic bench/scale for fatties.

Are you all some kind of morons? WiiFit will sell big bucks... like Brain Age has. I showed my mother and she wants that game really bad, along with Brain Age 2... big deal, Nintendo is not feeding you the "hardcore" games like you think they should. Did you really expect them to come out and say "We are getting rid of all of our causal games and coming out with nothing but hardcore games from now on." Didn't they do that last couple of times and ended up in 3rd place?

No, they ended up crapping out w/ the gamecube because they tried to appeal to much to children, not because they targeted the hardcore.

I'd like to see some new non-casual IP's from Nintendo. I know the 'hardcore' will always get excited about the classic franchises...but I'd like to see some new fun stuff from them. Oh well, at least Nintendo is doing well financially again.

This is so sad. Not the speeches and demos, mind you, but the reaction. Whine whine. Cry cry. Moan moan. Geez, you guys are way more depressing than the presentation.

WiiFit doesn't look that interesting but that balance board thing looks cool. If they can make a solid game for that beyond the little tech demos then I think it will be huge. If you can work the balance board and the zapper into an FPS...uh oh. And they need to bring back Track and Field because the balance board is the new power pad.

Since when did Nintendo really release "hardcore" games? Thinking about it, this conference doesnt really shock me. I was just hoping they'd show footage of these games. Especially Metroid Prime 3.

I can't wait for the 3rd party shows. I'm sure developers will show some awesome Wii Games.

The Nintendo Faithful are starting to repeat the same mantras as the Sony faithful...

"That balance board look like it could be cool when they make a good game for it"

"There will be plenty of other games comming out after the ones we already knew about".

Repeat after me: Microsoft is the only company doing things right at this very moment.

I thought Sony was gonna win this gen and they still got a chance but I think MS may actually take it now. However I know Sony has some really amazing things comming out too, just not as many as MS.

Be prepared for the new EYETOY to blow you away during the Sony conference.

I have to disagree.

Microsoft just showed Halo 3 and Resident Evil 5. Both which Microsoft don't really own. Halo 3 is Bungie and RE 5 = Capcom. So Microsoft had nothing to show BY Microsoft.

All three companies are on the same page right now. It's about to the 3rd party developers.

You did see the mentions of things like Beautiful Katamari, Bioshock Ace Combat 6, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon and so forth? None of these are announced for other consoles. Not to mention games that probably won't be out this year like Too Human, Alan Wake, Fable 2, etc.

I mean, certainly there's a hell of a lot of stuff that is appearing on PS3 as well, but there's also a decent amount of stuff that sure isn't.

You guys ARE depressing! I got everything I was expecting. A new channel, release dates, some newer information, accessories, statistics on how well they were selling, online info, videos, etc.

I don't understand what more you guys were expecting, because they covered a lot of ground in their 1hour of speech. We don't even know what's gonna happen: the games aren't even out yet! The fault for a bad speech isn't Nintendo's fault, it's the viewer's fault, for expecting too much.

Look no one was expecting a new hardware announcement. Who said they were? stop making excuses we wanted SOFTWARE, we wanted to see how ninetndo was gonna 'revolutionaries' the industry. I didn't know they meant 'revolutionaries' how easy it is to take money from people. This is E3, this is not for casual gamers, so for them to show Wii fitness just shows us this is what nintendo has. This is why they canceled disaster day of crysis, and other games. For this.

And also see how the tables have changed. I know I and others gave Sony the middle finger for trying to shove us Bluray.. But now you trying to give us some sort of shitty gym attachment, yes we are not forced to buy it, but what else is on the wii.

We want games. Thats it. No excuses. How can dating games for titles you ALREADY said is coming out this year be worthwhile. I already KNEW those games were coming out this year, you told me that. So now we know the exact dates. Thats not good enough.

This was an awful press conference, the worse. Mario kart wii was the only new game shown, and EVERYONE knew it was coming out. Its not some state secret, mario kart game on nintendo console = Guaranteed.

And what charging $20 for a piece of plastic is okay?

It was a terrible confrence. END OF.

I, for one, think there's a major difference between showing off a nice selection of games for the casual market and making a real point than what Nintendo has done here.

We basically have 15 minutes of them telling us how amazing the Wii and Wii Sports is through montages, 15 minutes or so about actual games (only one of which we did not know about -- although to me Mario Kart is super exciting and Mario Galaxy looks amazing) and 30 minutes about Wii Fit.

Wii Fit would be more exciting if it didn't appear to move entirely at the pace of a snail. I think it's a cool idea, but basing the crux of their argument about innovation on this? It's a more advanced version of that aerobics game for the Power Pad on the NES.

Certainly the controller has some neat possibilities for other titles, but they all revolve around weight distribution.

Most of the games they showed were of the "training" variety, even from 3rd parties. The idea was "innovative" before, but now they're extremely happy to crowd the market with the stuff now that they see it sells. How is that different than any other genre? It's going to drown itself just like anything else. If Ubisoft's Life Trainer doesn't make "my whole life better" who can I yell at about that? lol

I don't know, if MS telling us off the bat they're only showing stuff that will be out THIS YEAR (aside from RE5), shows some cool games (albeit ones we're all aware of) and that's underwhelming... how is this, at the very least, not as equally underwhelming?

I'm not understanding why people are saying us "hardcore" gamers are whining and asking were we expecting Nintendo to give up the casual market.....We have every reason to be mad. I can count on my fingers the number of quality games that wasn't a port or a freakin minigame party. Let's see... Zelda, Paper Mario, and gues what else! Nothing! Everything else was not worthy of $50 bucks. Then this holiday we get Prime 3, Brawl, Galaxy, and Kart.So I got a library of 6 games plus any worthy 3rd party title that comes my way. This is what I'm looking forward to??? And Granny has about 18 skin, eye, ear, feet, training games??? Seriously unbalanced.

Nintendo's just kinda got it both ways from fanboys. Either they make a game that uses the wiimote and hear about tacked on waggle control, or there is a traditional game that doesn't use it and get shit about how it isn't a wii game cause you aren't pointing or tilting.

MS did not have a great press conference either, but you know what? they showed games, and this is E3 you know right? There was no blockbuster announcements but they showed NEW footage of LOADS of games.

But most importantly they did not show montages of people I don't care about playing games I already own.

This is E3, casual gamers don't come to e3 or watch e3. This means then, that this is what Ninetndo has. THIS IS IT. This means effectively, nintendo is telling YOU and ME this is what they are about.

This is not a 'revolution' for the industry, this is making sure Nintendo pockets are nicely lined up with money. GOOD FOR THEM, but guess what though? I don't work for nintendo, so I don't get shit if they make money, so that doesn't effect me or YOU, only games do, and there was hardly any shown.

It was a bad, bad conference, because it lacked games, and at e3, this is what its all about. NEED I SAY MORE?

_____

Also some people say because of the 'internet' it means Ninetendo didn't have the chance to reveal anything without it being leaked?
Like WHAT?

The only thing that was "leaked" for nintendo was that Metroid prime got pushed back and NO super smash bros brawl. Sony came of the worse actually. There was nothing shown that was leaked within the last few weeks. It was all shit we knew for months. Ninja gaiden Ds was told like 4 months ago by TECMO THEMSELVES.

MS focused strictly on games this year, with the exception of RE5. That was their whole theme. Yeah, and they threw in that stupid Halo band performance.

It wasn't that it wasn't cool or exciting, they showed tons of footage, a lot of it new, about tons of kickass games. It is just that we didn't see anything unnexpected. I enjoyed it and thought it was cool, but nothing surprised or excited me. It seemed really geared towards exciting 3rd party devs as well.

Nintendo had some unnexpected stuff like fitness and the zapper, but it was really stupid. I didn't like their showing.

Hopefully Sony can give us something cool and/or unnexpected. At the same time, I don't know what they will have this year yet that we don't really know about. They dropped the K2 bomb last night (in that it does in fact look like a good game). Do they have any more tricks up their sleeves?

Is anyone else disturbed by the sheer number of peripherals Nintendo is introducing?

We had some good laughs at the expense of all the companies making adapters for things like Excite Truck (steering wheel), Cooking Mama (cooking utensils) and Wii Sports (bat, racket, etc.) and now it seems Nintendo is doing it themselves. A MarioKart steering wheel? Seriously? And I hope that blaster provides other functionality than having slots that hold my wiimote and nunchuk, cause I'm pretty sure my hands are already capable of doing that.

At the rate Nintendo is going, I'm going to need to rent storage space for all my Wii accessories.

i'm just going to throw this out there...but i'm pretty sure nintendo doesn't care too much about what a vocal minority on a blog thinks about their e3 showing. and i for one am looking forward to some of their "non-game" games. sure, metroid, mario kart, and mario galaxy were announced before...but it's good to know when they're actually coming. and you seem to forget that there are a boatload of developers making games for the wii as we speak. the system is selling like hotcakes, so do you really think nintendo is going to change directions now while nintendo fanboys and non-hardcore gamers buy up the system in droves? hell no.

and for anyone acting like microsoft or sony's keynotes were any better, i recall seeing a bunch of games/things i'd already knew were coming out as well, so there wasn't anything truly shocking coming from anybody.

if it's games you seek nintendo showed you that. do you think these are the only games coming out for the wii until the end of the year? if you do, then you're a moron. nintendo was only showcasing nintendo games. more games from other companies are obviously coming down the pike. so quit your bitchin' already and either enjoy what nintendo has to offer you or sell your wii. either way nintendo's already for your money in the bank.

Yes not much on the DS or the VC side. Regardless I'm totally excited by this E3 and put it up near or even higher than E3'06. They took the affordable accelerometers from their wiimotes and created the ultimate pad. The accelerometers measure the gravity against them and can detect the differences among the different sides and ends. Put that onto a board and suddenly you got full body motion without any cumbersome suit or diodes.
Critics say waggle control is a gimmick especially since motion controllers will be standard in the "True Hi-Def Next Gen" consoles and that Nintendo will be left without any options. Nintendo has just reinvented controllers, AGAIN in the spring of the new generation.
