The infamous Killzone 2 trailer of E3 2005. An unbelievable and completely improbable feat of gaming technology, quickly debunked as rubbish. This year, however, Sony returned with not only a real time demonstration of Killzone 2, but a playable tour as well. Before E3 had even begun, we knew that nothing could possibly prevent the tears, bitter or no, of the fiercely devoted.
With an uneasy hand, we present the collapsing of the universe: GameVideos' Killzone 2 comparison. The original CGI fest going toe-to-toe with the real deal. It's not entirely fair, however, as the real time video tends to feature the marines flying around for too long, but that won't stop the endless debates.
[Update - For those who just can't get enough, GameTrailers also released a comparison of their own, in high-def no less.]
I'm a sony fan but I must say. They don't look identical! The original trailer was better in many ways. Better character models, better animation, better textures, and slightly better smoke effects. Though I think by the time killzone 2 launches (long time from now), it will look even closer to the target renders...
I would say that if the control is like halo 3, than Killzone 3 will definetly give it competition, but halo 3 will win out in the end just because Bungie Always Has a higher level of polish on their games than others.
SIRPILF. There are 5 videos for halo 3, many weekly updates and hundreds of screenshots to show Halo 3s lighting (Global HDR lighting). you say tehre is no proof of halo 3's great lighting over KZ2. there it is. what i think you meant to say was "there is no proof of anything in KZ2" and no. KZ2 does not have more detail in its environment, and that is a simple fact, not opinion. And the scale is 13 miles. WITH that detail everywhere, fully modeled. Water that rivals bioshock should have shut you up before you call someone crazy. sorry.
Considering that the E3 2007 trailer is PRE Pre-Alpha, that would mean that alot of the graphical goodies have yet to be impemented. The developer said that only HALF the animations were in. Think about that, Halo 3 was a Beta, Killzone 2 a Pre-Pre-Alpha.
I really do not see the point in the comparisons either. But, since everyone else is doing it...I can be a Lemming too. All I know is Killzone 2 delivered, and made alot of people shut up even though what was shown was NO WHERE NEAR as complete as Halo 3.
It was a very, very good day to be a PS3 owner. And today also proved to the rest of you what I knew all along....that the PS3 by the end of 2008, will be the console of choice. And it works too. Unlike the 360, my console will only leave my house when I choose to take it with me somewhere.
The future....is Bright indeed for PS3.
The future...is now for the 360, as for 2008? Who knows.
This totally looks 4D. And to think this game has been in development since well before I was offing enemies in Call of Duty 2 on the XBOX360. And by the way, COD2, a XBOX360 launch game, still looks better to me in my opinion. And that is gameplay vs this vid. I will say the target render video was badass for KZ2. There is no way they can re-create the fluidity and framerate in the real game. They just dont have the RAM.
ANY developper of sony's touting pre-alpha after MGS4's "pre-alpha" crap at E3 05 should automaticaly be taken with an ocean's worth of salt. MGS4 now, looks worse than MGS4 "pre-alpha" which was the first movie shown and the most impressive.
Wait why is KZ even in the Halo conversation...Comon KZ was average every body who played it knows that so uhhh shut up...Its not good as Half Life, Unreal tournament, or even RB6 god...I hope KZ2 is good but we should not be talking about a game that is average as hell and compare it to legendary FPS...Yes Halo is a legendary FPS...Say its overated if you want but facts are facts..Highest selling non licensed game in the last 6 years, cultural icon, critically acclaimed..What else do you need? Does KZ have any of that...Uhhh NO! Half life does, UT does, god even Perfect dark and golden eyes does.. When KZ gets some respect for its success holla back at me
How does it compare to the original? Looks awesome to me. Will the story be engaging and the multiplayer be able to compete with Bungie's finesse? I don't know. But this looks more interesting to me personally, as I like this gritty look a lot more than the Halo universe, which looks like Unreal tournament to me.
I'm not looking forward to Halo3, but that certainly doesn't mean I think you shouldn't be. Halo is an awesome game - for other people. Unless the single-player on Halo3 is INSANE, I'm probably not messing with it. As for the multiplayer Halo3, I played the demo like everyone else and found it too 'spawn-and-kill-and get-killed-and-spawn-again.' I also found myself enjoying Crackdown a lot more. In fact, I'm thinking about going in for some more stunt rings right now.
Like anyone who's followed the KZ2 'prerendered' fiasco, I was interested in the comparison we see here - and I know as a potential fan of the game, I was afraid it was going to look 'teh suxx.' But I'm on board again. Hopefully the playability and story are up to the high standards of the visuals.
I know Sony's got to be excited, at least when Microsoft says 'Halo,' they'll at least have an answer!
The Gametrailers video has the better comparison. And after watching it, IMHO, the old trailers really do look better. They came close though. It looks pretty good and could likely be a decent game when it's all said and done. It's all in the execution and that can't be determined from a 2 minute video.
I thought they look very close to be honest, so you got to hand it to Sony and Guerrilla Games.
But the CGI trailer was naturally going to be unbeatable. The on-screen action was amazing, the textures were razor-sharp and the animation was like-like. Maybe we'll see that sort of quality in Playstation 4 or something, but not now, no.
The video is real impressive but I think some people are overreacting just a bit. Take a look at COD4, MGS4,UT3,Haze, etc. Games look good now and this one is no different.
When you watch the trailer starting AFTER the landing intro and the player "blacks out", (followed by the actual gameplay--) that's pretty much what we expect games to look like nowadays (on the PS3/X360/PC, of course).
Hyping up a game based simply on it not completely missing the bar seem kind of empty to me...
Grow the fuck up? Who is the real issue here? There are are a bazillion more people attacking Killzone versus people that are defending it.
The people supporting it are saying, "This trailer kicks ass. The game is going to rock" A fairly generic comment. Whereas most of the detractors are proclaiming, "Teh video is the suck! This ain't no Halo killer! Ha ha it's fucking fake!" You people are idiots for thinking this is good! [At this point remarks degenerate in to a jealous rage and drooling fit]
There is a vast difference in the ideal behind the majority of the remarks. Most supporters talk about the trailer, most haters talk about the people that like the trailer. What does that tell you.
When you can't attack the object, attack the person that supports it. Pathetic really. It shows the complete inability to be onjective, and despite the claims denotes a fanboy that is far worse and far more blind than someone that likes a game for what it is.
I haven't seen one millionth of the HALO3 attacks versus what I have seen regarding ones going after Killzone. What does that tell you? When you are on top, when you are setting the standard, everyone wants a piece of you. I haven't seen a HALO3 versus HALO2 comparison yet either.
A lot closer than I would have thought. A good banner for the PS3 camp to be sure. If anyone dismisses this but loves FPS's in general, I'll feel sorry you missed out when I'm playing it next year.
My take on this (considering its not a HD comparison) is the In-Game trailer looks better (graphics are equal unless you want to be anal about it). Sure the smoke and fire's not as good as the 05' trailer, but the better character animation, hyper realisitc blood splatter, the weather/lightning effects and the vastly more intense skirmishes makes up for it by the bucket load.... 07' wins it hands-down for me. Remember gameplay is numero uno and the 07' looks like the better game. Granted i'm no expert, but thats my honest opinon. Who gives a fuck about minor visual detail that most people wont even notice or care about anyway. Gameplay FTW!
the 2007 trailer isn't even close to the 2005 one. the 2007 trailer may be almost as pretty, but the animation in the 2005 trailer is FAR more realistic.
and to think they tried to convince us that the 2005 trailer was real time... watching it beside the 2007 trailer shows it clearly wasn't. sony = liars.
I saw a difference in the videos. One of them I thought was unbelievable a year or two ago. The other one I would have found impressive, yet believable. One looks better than Gears and one doesn't. They have some of the same effects, but the quality isn't close.
The game has good graphics. The gameplay looks very basic and standard. Those two things will make this game pretty popular and decent, but not legendary.
I honestly think most Sony fans will be surprised to find UT3 is a Killzone killer. To think a Killzone sequel by Guerrilla would "kill" Halo3 is bordering on insane. Now, a sequel to Unreal made by Epic, there you might have an argument.
Good graphics alone don't mean much. COD4, Gears, Resistance, Crysis, UT3, Halo3 (if you appreciate color), Haze, and others are/will be right at, right below, or right above those graphics. That is just how games can look now. If they were the first, ala Gears, it would be a much bigger deal.
The first trailer was promised to be actual game play footage, and it doesn't look as good as the CGI trailer at all. It's all artistic direction that makes it look good, nothing to do with graphic power.
The developer did a damn fine job here. Just like overly obnoxious hardcore sports fan (jocks in high school), fanboys (unpopular losers in high school) have no meaning in their lives so they have to manufacture it by cheering for a video game console. Consoles are the equivalent of the NFL to fanboy nerds.
Oh my mind, i dont know people but feel that i want to cry, this is the most amazing trailer i ever seen in my life, is soo deep soo cinematic soo Hollywood, im not a PS3 fan; i love Xbox 360 but do not tell me any 360 fanboy that this does not looks impresive, and if you do not want to accept it thats okay, but that is your desicion not mine, is not the best graphic game but its far more better than many good games out there, the gameplay looks solid, good and nice effects, nice weapons, nice levels desing, did you people see the blood it looks soo real, the explosion on the door or gate inside a level looks soo real, the enemy are freaking cool and smarts, simple amazing Guerrilla amazing, i think that this is the game that would make gamers to buy a PS3; bravo Sony and Guerrilla bravo best wishes......
I dont get why people keep saying that Killzone will be a Halo Killer when Halo got Killed by Half Life 2 long time ago, Killzone 2 does not need to kill any game because its a unique game that deserve respect ; i bet this game will be Awesome and fun to play, why..? because the trailer speak for itself......
Okay, seriously, shut up people. KZ2 looks good, yes. Is it close to the 05 trailer? If the 05 trailer is a 10, I give this one an 8. It looks good, but it's so damn dark, the art direction is horribly bland, and the fire effects are pretty bad compared to the target trailer. It's a PS3 game, it's gonna look good; it's atleast as good as Resistance. But, dammit, I just can't fall in love with it like I can Halo. Halo has color. Halo has a legacy. Halo has a soul. I'm sorry for sounding fanboyish, but when I watch the Halo trailer, I can actually feel something. Killzone is exactly like it's namesake: dark, grey, and dead. Maybe it'll be as good as Gears of War. But it really isn't a fair comparison between Halo and KZ2; Halo's candy, Killzone's a steak. We already know how sweet Halo's gonna be, but it remains to be seen whether Killzone is gonna be well done or just burnt to a crisp.
You will always have your Halo 3 guys and gals and you will have Killzone 2 guys and gals.
Why not just enjoy the damn games instead of constantly feel that you need to defend or justify your opinion.
Yeah, Killzone 2 is looking to be a rather good "visual" game so far. That doesn't mean that the AI isn't going to be as stupid and retarded as the first Killzone and, well, about 200 other people have said the rest.
You idiots make me want to play pong. Seriously. Who the hell would even try pit any game against it? It's squares and rectangles and by god, it's fun.
The look of the game is great to me just take sin city they are going for a certain look. halo is great to but if you had ever been to war you would now . In Iraq there are no pretty colors no green shinny armor no neon lights just concrette dirt and ruble, they re going for the real look of war! PS3 can push more colors than that! Great job sony.
lol - the people who say that a game is good based on the sales definitely have a few screws loose. I guess that "Deer Hunter" was a great game because it was #1 on the charts for so long and sold extremely well. Wow, great logic.
Any non-halo fanatic can admit that Killzone 2 looks good and seems to be a good FPS. The software team has done a good job and anyone who says otherwise doesn't really have anything to stand on. Those people are probably still enamored with FPS that have cliffhanger endings. ;)
Looks pretty damn good. Back in 2005, there was no way in hell that trailer could have been real-time, but now, it looks like what was shone was very close to what we will get.
I really want to be excited for this game. Really, I do. That gigantic Helghast super-dude with the minigun looks absolutely amazing. It's got a sweet futuristic WWII storyline and engaging atmosphere. It's got bad guys that, just by their appearance, makes you want to hate them. But for some reason I just can't get excited for it. Maybe it's because I don't remember half of the first Killzone because I was in a boredom-induced state of delirium for most of it. Or maybe it's because the game is so frackin dark I can't see half of the amazing detail on the soldier's uniforms.
I don't know what it is, but until I can get excited for it Halo is the only major shooter in my life.
Everybody is talking about Killzone 2 being a Halo Killer but I think Halo's been matched already. Half Life is great and I also think Insomniac is on to something with Resistance. Notice that I say matched and not beat.
I like the Halo series, the story and such and I own a PS3. I may get flamed for saying Resistance but the story is captivating, the monsters are great from the tiny critter looking ones, to the basic foot soldiers, to the huge spider looking thing. You might say that Resistance didn't even stand up to Gears of War as far as graphics and I'll reply that this was, I believe, Insomniacs first attempt at a FPS. Plus, it was a launch title whereas Gears of War was a title that was released a year into the 360, not to mention that it was made by Epic who has a crazy amount of experience with FPSs. Resistance's story is great(Insomniac has excellent experience in this aspect of gaming)and can be expanded with future titles that will make the series as good as Halo's, if not better(who really knows.
Halo definitely set the bar but I believe that bar has been met and will continue to be met and eventually beat. Killzone 2 looks like it will be at the level of these other games and it may set some bars of it's own. For the record, I feel the same way about Halo 3.
