Anyone catch this press conference on G4? I've never been so disgusted by a news conference coverage in my life. When they said live and uncut I assumed it would be commercial free. Instead G4 decided to cut to several long commercial breaks and even cut off the Halo 3 trailer at the end. Absolutely pathetic

What the hell is that yellow gun on the Chief's back at 1:14, when he jacks the Ghost?
Also, graphics look very nice outside, kinda dull inside. What happened to the Chief's glossy sheen?

I cant believe Moore compared Halo to Star Wars... FREAKIN' STAR WARS!
Im not a Star Wars fanboy, but, COME ON... everyone knows what a light saber is, everyone knows what a Ewok is.. or Chewbacca, or Darth Vader ..but, wtf is a Halo.. outside of American, males 10-30.. no one gives a sh!t about Halo.

Was it just me or was the soundtrack straight out of a mid-90's corporate promotional video, I kept waiting for a Michael Scott type character to walk out on stage... The graphics have been stepped up, especially outside, but man... a little more work in musical selection and synchronization would have gone a long way in terms of quality... oh well... Guess I'm just not Halo-fanboy-enough for it to work for me, though I'm sure the eventual game will be much better and with really tight gameplay as is usual with the series.

The yellow thing at 1:14 looks like a fuel-rod gun.
I'd also like to point out the Cortana appears to have been equipped with 'ballistics'.
Given the regular caliber of this site, I'm suprised no-one else has pointed it out yet.

Ok Graphic Cry Babies just need to SHUT UP. Listen the in game graphics look a hell of alot better than the early Beta. And keep in mind that there is still a month to go before they even start burning the final copies. All the people who are complaining A. You are a Sony Kill Crap Boy or B. Just plain stupid about making a video game. The graphics are the last thing they do on any game, before graphics they are just working on the logic for the game, then fine tuning i.e. bug squashing, then graphics. That is why very few companies release a public Beta to the general public is because too many kids or uniformed adults make a judgement on the final game based on a Beta. Guys I'm 38 and have been thru many Beta's and you guys really need to do some brushing up on your knowledge before you make a stupid statement about the quality of a game.

you know thats all fine and good, and im not one to complain either, im a total 360 halo fanboy and ill be there on day one, but look at other games like call of duty 4 and mass effect, those are games coming out months after halo and already look so much better. im in it for the gameplay myself, but mass effect has looked incredible in every trailer/demo/screenshot since the first one ive seen.

Hey bigd,
I'm in game development and YOU need to shut up. You couldn't be more wrong from the truth. One month till gold = serious bug fixing, not graphics upgrading. Graphics upgrading causes lots of bugs. They stopped making graphics for this game probably 5 months ago.
Of course, you can act like you know a thing or two about something you OBVIOUSLY aren't a part of.

Halo uses color. Therefore, it won't "look" as graphically stunning. There is a reason so many games just use shades of grey and brown. You can make it look more realistic, minus the fact that real life is full of colors. Get used to it. Mass Effect has stunning character models, but out in the open combat is no better looking than Halo3.
Halo3 looks to run silky smooth with smooth animations, has cool explosion and energy effects, lighting, and most importantly, style. I thought the game looked really great. I am much more excited for this game after seeing the trailer.
I mean, look at the damn thing. Almost every single 3 second clip showed some different unique gameplay aspect. I think I saw more gameplay elements in that trailer than are evident in all of Halo2. Seriously, this game does not look like it will get stale as you progress.
You Halo haters are going to have a sad day when reviews and sales figures start rolling in for this game.

Anyone notice a lot of jerky animation? Something that was overlooked in halo 2 but reviewers still gave it a good score. Halo 2=lame so I really hope H3 lives up to the hype. As for me im all about call of duty 4. Looks what can I say. More balanced and better. Ill still try this one out

alright now i dont mean to sound bitchy, but i ask you all to re watch the announcement trailer back at last years e3, which we were told was running on the 360s capabilities, so it was what they were shooting for for "in game" graphics. and then look at this trailer... now im a 360 fanboy, i love halo, and ill be there on day 1 playing it. but a part of me was let down, because now that its only a few months till release, what we're seeing is pretty damn close to what we'll have in september, and even if they make some improvements, i cant see it being that level of gritty detail that we saw on the announcement trailer. this saddens me, but im sure ill still have fun playing the hell out of the game.

Graphics look disappointing, just like the Halo 3 Beta. I blame the low-res textures. Doesn't make a difference to me honestly, I still play Halo 2 for a couple hours a day regardless of the graphics. It could be the exact same graphics as Halo 2 and I'd still play it online nonstop.
Posted: Jul 11th 2007 7:15AM (Unverified) said
Huh, color me impressed. Question though; is this the final version of the game or are they going to polish it up a bit more? Its not the graphics so much as the animation. A definate improvement over the last game, but still notice a little chop here and there.
Also doesn't anyone find it ironic that people are still complaining about graphics even though the game is very well done. I guess it show how unrealistic the expectations of graphics junkies are...

I'm actually glad to see that the graphics aren't on par with Gears of War or some of the single player games on the XBox 360.
Why you ask? Because I love multiplayer, I love it to death and I hate HATE HATE how devs are starting to just ignore designing their game for four players on one console. GoW put a stick in big gaming nights, 2 per console, although at least it wasn't one per like Prey (Prey sucked multiplayer anyways). The lower the graphics are the more possible it is that they're going to include this feature which is highly ignored on the 360 due to live.
Then of course the number of things happening at a time on your screen. If you hadn't noticed GoW rarely sees an open field with a lot of action going on, which is pretty much a given in Halo games. With lower graphics more action is possible, I'm expecting a nice roomy battle field packed with brutes and oompa loompas.
In any case Halo will most likely remain as the best console shooter this generation. I loved Halo 1, Halo 2 was good but Live saved it from being "just good", hopefully they'll pick up what they had in Halo 1 here.

I'm impressed. Their I said it. It's a well recycled formula starting with Halo, and now it comes to this. Although, truth be told, you don't play halo for 60 some hours just to play the story.
Still, you can't say that the Killzone 2 trailer wasn't any less impressive. Although people are shouting, OMG graphics not up to par, or TECTURE SUXS, no one but Sony knows all the other features to be on Killzone 2.

I was actually impressed by the trailer. The graphics are a big improvement over Halo 2.
If people are going to complain about the graphics not at the same level as Gears of War, Call of Duty 4, or Mass Effect, then you are putting too high of a standard on this game. This isn't Crysis, mind you, but if you were to look at this game as it is, Halo 3 is rather beautiful. The graphics are varied and there are actually have more variation and wide range of colors compared to the limited palette of Gears of War or CoD4. I'd prefer variety in graphics and art over mundane and mediocre. I'd prefer smooth animation than over-the-top-graphics-that-may-slowdown. It's all a matter of personal preference. You can't expect every game to come out to look like Gears of War or CoD4 or Mass Effect, or Unreal Tournament 3. You'd be limiting yourself to just those games, and putting too high of a standard on other games. Every game developer has their own idea of what looks good given to what they can push to the limit in the hardware they are developing for. Not every game is going to use the Unreal Engine 3 or the engine used in Mass Effect or CoD4, or the Crytek Engine in Crysis. You cannot expect every developer to be the same in terms of graphics fidelity and quality. The comments I read here are the same I read on the Killzone 2 post. It's just shortsighted by putting these virtual standards on games, when in actuality you should be admiring the game for what it is, and not what it should be or should strive to be. It's unfair to the developers making these games for you and to whatever system you hold your loyalties to.

but look at the announcement trailer of halo 3 from last years e3, that had the same classic halo style and colors, but definitely looked better than this latest trailer. im not comparing halo to CoD, im comparing halo to halo, comparing what was promised to us last year vs what we've been given. should we just give bungie a pass just because theyre bungie and we love them?

I'm referring to the comments here and on Killzone 2 mainly where comments are comparing how poorly the graphics are to Gears of War, CoD4, Mass Effect, and even Crysis. What I'm trying to say basically is that players should not expect every game to look as good as those games. It's putting too high of a standard. It's unfair to the developers making these games. Not every game developer is going to use the same game engine or produce a game with the same killer graphics as the previous game blockbuster. If you want to play the same game with the same graphics as last year's blockbuster or game of the year, then where is the variety there? I'd rather prefer variety over sameness. Every game is going to be unique, and every game will have their flaws and strengths. Complaining and pre-judging a game's graphics when one has not touched the game itself and has not considered the hardware's limitations and strengths is wholly unfair and completely biased. Judge the game for what it is, how well it plays, and what it offers in terms of playability and enjoyability rather than compare it to previous game. Expecting and not buying a game for not being LIKE a previous game in terms of graphics or gameplay, or not following the same footsteps as a previous game is just having a "wannabe" attitude for the game. If don't like variety in your game, then don't buy it and don't criticize it. If you prefer graphics in a game to be the same as the last game you played, then don't buy it or buy the system. It's these comments comparing basically "apples-to-oranges" when I read them on Joystiq.com. These same comments I see everytime a game is reported for the Wii and the PS3 and how it doesn't look as good as the 360, or even insulting the system itself. Why not judge the game as it is in terms of what the system is capable of outputting? Judge the game for how the developers made the game in terms of maintaining smooth performance and still retain at least the same level of detail given the hardware's strengths and limitations. Comments made on Joystiq.com whereby the comments are insulting the system's limitations in terms of the Wii and the PS3 are just downright unfair to the developers making the game and the companies making the systems. You cannot expect every system to have the same market appeal and customers, and you cannot expect every game that comes out for these three systems to be alike.

I don't see how people can't see the difference between this and Halo 2...it's like night and day to me. There's a screenshot comparison on the net somewhere comparing the H2 Zanzibar to the H3 version (can't remember what it's called), and the H2 version is absolutely ghastly by comparison.
Also, the new Scarab looks sweet, and I like how the Drones can pick Marines up now. They finally have a use other than being the most annoying enemies ever encountered in an FPS.
