While a lot of gamers are apparently very excited by the new lower price for the 60GB PS3, Square Enix's US and Europe President and CEO John Yamamoto is not one of them. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Yamamoto was asked about the recent remarks from Konami president Kazumi Kitue on the slow start for Sony's system. Yamamoto said that $500 for the PS3 is "still a bit expensive for most gamers. Most of them think that price is still high." Yamamoto went on to urge a price cut or Europe, saying €500 might be more appropriate in light of the new U.S. price.
Check out the full interview for Yamamoto's thoughts on oft-delayed European Square games, the strength of the DS and how the new E3 is changing Square's plans.

Yeah..I think the price needs to be even closer to the Xbox 360's. Sure you're getting Blu-Ray and a large HD...but for people who want to play videogames on a console, those aren't really worth $100-$200 more...especially when the games still aren't there.

LOL at the comment above.
Neither can I. If it doesn't come to the 360 I'll be a little dissappointed. But by n means am I going to go out and buy a ps3 for FFXII alone. Thats just not going to happen. The funny thing is that the PRICE has remained the SAME. And the content that you get for that price has not significantly improved in my opinion.

luckily you dont. You can actually play ff12 on the ps2.
And you wrong, The price went down $100. I paid 600, not 500 for the 60gig version.

$500 is still too pricey? Well, no shit sherlock. Price even seems worse if there's no worth while games to buy.

The US price is fine; what's not fine is the shafting that European and Australian customers are getting on price. At current exchange rates the USD $499 is about AUD $640 after tax, yet they've only reduced the thing to AUD $850. Nothing will convince me that it costs an extra AUD $210 per console to ship and sell them here.
