Unreal Tournament III timed exclusive for PS3, can share mods with PC

At their E3 2007 press conference today, Sony confirmed that Epic's Unreal Tournament 3 will be a timed exclusive for the PlayStation 3, coming out this year only for the Sony console -- guess they didn't have to buy it. Also confirmed (and very exciting) is the ability to share mods between the PS3 and PC versions. When the PC version comes out next year, at least.

Actually, it will support KB/M. Like you, I'll still likely het it for PC, but supporting mods and KB/M on a console is a good move, IMO.

There's an avalanche of games on the 360 between now and the end of the year - I'm sure this is a business decision by Epic to avoid being buried. The game will get a lot better exposure next year.

I'm interested to see how the mod-sharing works. It's hard to believe that it'll be a full-fledged sharing system and instead just community favorites. Either way, it definitely makes the PS3 version attractive. As attractive as the PC version? No, give me a break.

This was most certainly bought. The 360 version at this point would be much further in development just because of their experience on gears.

Actually, Epic has said in the past that Gears was there way of showing the 360's power, and UT was for the PS3 so it doesn't surprise me that they would make it a timed exclusive, your just grasping at straws, you don't have ANY confirmation that Sony paid them.

Also, thhe 360 has Gow, Dead rising, etc. Just live with it, at least you get this exclusive on the 360 eventually. That is when your on your 4th 360 by next year?

Why would 360 owners NEED this one out this year PS3 fanboys?? We will already be plenty busy playing Halo 3, Rock Band, PGR4, GTA4, Assassins Creed, Mass Effect,...etc...etc. Seems we should get a break and Epic should push the release date out a bit with and extra coat of polish for the 360 (in the same treatment VF 5 is getting). Makes sense to me. Halo 3 would keep anyone busy for months. Not upset in the least. Seems to me PS3 is the one hurting for games. Well now here's one more to add to your lacking list.

For someone who's named "The Truth," You're wallowing in lies right now. I mean, hell, about the most exciting thing announce last night for your console was the Microsoft version of Buzz, controller design stolen and all.

Meanwhile, PS3 came out swinging, announcing a ton of new games, some hella important deals (for a company so bent on online like Microsoft, why were they the ones that FAILED to wooo THE premier MMO developer right now, outside of Blizzard of course?), timed exclusives (which were very important to your camp not so long ago), and of course supporting features 360 simply cannot do due to the fact that hard drive support is no longer a standard.

Facing facts, Sony cleaned up at E3 by not only showing a phenominal holiday lineup in regards to both retail and DD channels, but also showed one hell of a bright future beyond this holiday season.

Meanwhile, Microsoft was so concerned with "Finishing the fight" that there is very little indication or consistant plans beyond the Halo 3 season. Which is tragic because MS has packed SOOOOO much AAA content, it's bound to cannibalize itself.

Actually, the PS3 line-up this fall is just fine (it includes a couple of the games you listed). Games like Warhawk, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, Heavenly Sword, Lair, Folks Soul, etc, etc, etc... At some point you fanboys will come to the realization that the drought on the PS3 is about to end. But for the next few weeks you can keep living your dreamworld where the PS3 has a bleak holiday in store for PS3 owners.

As a 360 owner with no intention of dropping $500 on a PS3, this probably means I won't be getting it when it comes out in 2008. By then, I probably won't care about it. Good score for Sony, but bad move for Epic. I'm not thinking this game

Although all of you people crying about the lack of a PC release can be comforted by this thought: The promised 'community mods' they intend to be available for PS3 are made by... PC USERS, so one can assume that Joystiq is dead wrong with their '08 PC release date.

UT is not a mainstream game. UT is a PC game. PC gamers love UT. Not console gamers. Underestimating Halo 3 is stupid, and gears is a much better game for microsoft to have to itself (considering its sales success). Timed Exclusive doesn't mean crap compared to normal exclusive that ps2 used to get.

PC gamers are willing to wait. People don't just spend $500 on a whim to get a game that they KNOW will be on other, less expensive platforms.

As long as PS3 costs as much as a PC, there's no reason to buy it, knowing that it's getting all these "timed exclusive" that come out for less expensive platforms anyway.

There was a great reason to buy a PS2 when it came out. It had great graphics for $300, which you couldn't get on a PC. The truth is, PS3 has such a small install base that all the games are being ported to 360 and PC.

killzone and mgs are about the only exclusive that are worth getting. but mgs may go to 360 anyway! the original killzone really wasn't even that good!

It's a CONSOLE exclusive. The PC version is coming out at the same time as the PS3 version.

Well this was a game i was going to buy for my 360 since theres no way in hell my pc will play it. I think it's a mistake on epics part. By the time it is released for the 360 i'll be burnt out buy playing halo and half-life. I think they are killing there chance at selling on the 360 altoghther with this move.

I was always going to get it on the PC anyway, but I am a bit confused as to why Epic would put it on the PS3 first if Sony doesn't "buy" exclusives. It just seems bad business sense. Ah well, at least I can save up for a second graphics card now!

Calm down... I didn't even mention E3 now did I. My point being... who cares if UT3 is a TIMED exclusive for PS3. 360 has plenty of games to keep it's BIGGER INSTALLED BASE busy without the help of UT3. So just settle your ass down, take your chill pills, and be happy to chalk up one more game on the horizon while you waited all year with a less than stellar line-up. A price cut and revisions in the 360 hardware are the only factors keeping it from dominating this generation. I'm happy you love all the technical wizardry PS3 can handle on paper (but has yet to be proven).. but most gamers don't care about all that. Look at the proof with PS3 getting owned in every region by the Wii. You and all your other PS3 fanboys can follow all the promises of Sony.. but the smarter consumer knows the facts and the facts are that Sony is hurting and seriously lagging. Again, hardware doesn't make the system... games and services make the system. Sony is hard pressed to play catch up and you know it.

Anyone think that Microsoft doesn't really want this game for the immediate future. Why would you want a premier FPS like UC3 to get involved with the Halo 3 hurricane this holiday season? I wouldn't put it past Epic , for pushing this "timed exclusivity". They're the ones that'll lose out the most if they know their game is eventually coming to 360, just to get lost against Halo 3.

This is kinda weird. I just checked gamestop.com's upcoming release dates on this game and it is still listed as coming out FIRST on the pc and 360 simultaneously in November and coming out on the ps3 afterwards in January. Something made Epic change their minds. Probably wasn't money since Sony "doesn't buy" exclusives right. What's even stranger is the fact that it does seem like the pc release will be pushed back to January. I think epic is really making a mistake to snub those who have always been the most dedicated unreal fans, the pc owners. The 360 will be getting several quality FPS this fall so I could kinda see why they would push the 360 version back. You would be competing with the half-life 2 expansion black edition, bioshock, halo 3 of course, as well as call of duty 4. But the pc crowd are die-hard UT fans. Strange.

Actually, Dash, a more appropriate analogy would be: that's like driving a Minivan at NASCAR. The PS3, in this case, represents the Minivan, while a high-end PC are stock cars with more power and better handling.

This really pisses me off. Sony obviously bought this exclusive, as Epic would never release Unreal on a console before PC unless they were paid to do so. I am not angry about it being delayed for 360, but I am PISSED about it being delayed for PC.

This game BELONGS on PC. Not a damn console. UT is to fast-paced and crazy for a console. Damn you Sony.
