Guitar Hero II gets new song pack
Boy, that Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and Rock Band sure look exciting, don't they? The inclusion of Slash, new downloadable content every week? It's a very good time to love pretending to play guitar. But doesn't the axiom go "Make new friends but keep the old, one is silver and the other is gold"? You've got an opportunity to show a little love to an old friend with a new downloadable song pack for Guitar Hero II on Xbox Live. For 500 points ($6.25) you can pick up "I Wanna Be Sedated," "Smoke on the Water" and "You've Got Another Thing Coming." So, go ahead, spend some time with an old friend. Yes, he's an old friend who charges you six bucks to listen to old songs at his house, but he's a friend just the same.
[Thanks, everyone who sent this in!]

still too expensive, they didn't learn a damn thing.
Jacob P. @ Jul 12th 2007 10:24AM
Honestly, I don't think that they had to "learn" anything from when they released the last packs...I'm sure they made a ton of cash off of it, despite all the people that were complaining, and I'm sure they'll make the same kind of money off this one as well.
Nushio @ Jul 12th 2007 11:20AM
And if they allowed in GH3 to play downloaded GH2 songs?
(Wild conjecture, I know, but it would be nice nonetheless)
JodyAnthony @ Jul 12th 2007 10:22AM
Twenty-twenty-twenty four hours to go I wanna be sedated
its worth it for that song alone.
Brent @ Jul 12th 2007 10:29AM
F*ck you, GH2 downloadable content! I'll keep playing "Woman" as made famous by Wolfmother, thank-you-very-much.
whosmav @ Jul 12th 2007 10:29AM
Damn! Is that all you get for 6 bucks! 3 friggin songs!
WACK!!!!!!!!!
chenry @ Jul 12th 2007 10:32AM
I'd buy one if every pack wasn't 2 song I want and 1 I don't.
baby sea tuna @ Jul 12th 2007 10:33AM
Who says Internet petitions never changed anything?!
Oh, wait...
whosmav @ Jul 12th 2007 10:34AM
HA
Jerk Face @ Jul 12th 2007 10:33AM
Dude every one of those songs is awesome!
JonnyBoy2U @ Jul 12th 2007 10:34AM
I'm buying it. All the bitching is so retarded. If you dont like the price DO NOT BUY IT then and MISS OUT. However its obvious that there are plenty of people who can afford it and do not mind the price. And to me 500 Points isn't that big a deal.
Crono @ Jul 12th 2007 3:04PM
Miss Out? On what, 3 Songs I mastered 2 years ago when GH1 came out. I don't think I'm missing anything, hence why the price is too damn high.
aylera @ Jul 12th 2007 10:36AM
1 song pack in what, 3-4 months ?
Wow.
Farseer @ Jul 12th 2007 11:47AM
If they were making a ton of cash from these add-on packs, I think that they would probably be releasing them more often. (Either that, or they're busy with Rock Band)
If they were to throw them out there at $1.50 a song (individually, not in packs), I think they would sell a lot more. That way they would appeal to those who see 1-2 songs per pack that they really want, and to those who think that $6.25 is a bit much for previously released songs.
bigd7387 @ Jul 12th 2007 10:45AM
It's about God-Damn time they got more Judas Priest on there. You've got another thing coming is sweet and Judas plays the hell out of the song live.
Christopher7xii @ Jul 12th 2007 10:51AM
Yeah... All these songs are *NOT* my first picks, at all.
I'm waiting for the Ziggy Stardust, Take Me Out, and No One Knows pack.
Also, yeah, this is the first downloadable pack since a week after the game came out. It's been since like April 10th. Feels like such a waste buying that for the 360.
I think I'll just hold onto my money and drop $40 on Rock the 80s for PS2 though. Emp discount price.
Intentless @ Jul 12th 2007 10:54AM
I read the discription and this is how it went... I wanna be sedated... Interesting... Smoke on the Water.... Bought... You got another thing coming... Clutch...
matthew @ Jul 12th 2007 11:03AM
It's almost a trite point, but I honestly expect to see the Rock Band weekly songs be significantly cheaper. Given the amount of backlash there's been over GTII songs, and Rock Band's obvious desire to become the de facto music-sim, it'd be almost stupid to blow such an easy tool at stealing fans.
There real selling point would be if this included a non-RB version, i.e. an MP3 or AAC we could put on our PMPs. If I could pay, say, $2 per song for a fully playable AAC as well as a RB-mixed version of the song, I'd be pretty happy.
deaftly @ Jul 12th 2007 11:18AM
ill def be picking up this pack, cant resist these damn song packs, at least all the songs are good here
deaftly @ Jul 12th 2007 11:22AM
oh is this out now?
jsn @ Jul 12th 2007 11:23AM
If you don't like it, don't pay it...seriously. Some of you whine like a bunch of babies.
They obviously sell enough of them that they know people will pay it, despite the fact that a handful of whining tards complain about it in the comments section on Joystiq.
I paid it, just like I paid for the first three packs, and I have no regrets about it. $6.25 or whatever it costs is money well spent knowing how much time I (and my friends) will spend playing them.
Farseer @ Jul 12th 2007 11:55AM
So, you're OK with paying almost $20 for 9 songs, when you can get the game they came from (Which has 47) for $40?
By that logic, to get all 47 original songs at $6.25 per 3 song pack, you will end up paying somewhere near $95. Keep in mind that GH sells new for $40, and I'm sure a price drop will come before the holiday season.
Thanks for buying the packs and supporting their extremely bloated pricing scheme. Those of us who actively choose not to buy them in protest are glad you help the cause.
polly @ Jul 12th 2007 11:29AM
That is honestly the best song pack they've got out, but it's still too much. If they're adamant about the 500 pt price, they should put 4 or 5 songs in there. But the whole DLC hoopla with GH2 was that everyone was thinking they could buy songs piecemeal for a reasonable amount, and they wouldn't all be just GH1 rehashes. It's been a big letdown so far.
baby sea tuna @ Jul 12th 2007 11:45AM
No doubt. I hope things might change shortly after the 80s version drops for PS2, but they're probably so busy working on Rock Band or whatever that their "unprecedented level of marketplace content" will probably remain an unfulfilled promise.
Personally, I don't care right now. I haven't even 5-Starred all the songs yet, as it is.
DarthDavid @ Jul 12th 2007 11:51AM
Guitar Hero.....you've got another thing coming....its called ROCK BAND!!! Gosh I kill me =) (no I'm not a fanboy I have GH 1&2.....but Rock Band's song list is better + the music committee + better guitar/drums + the original developers Harmonix) Activision/Neversoft bought the NAME not the SOUL.
IQpierce @ Jul 12th 2007 1:22PM
BOYCOTT THIS CRAP PEOPLE. Trust me: the guys who came up with these prices literally did not know what they are doing. Think about it: no one has sold this kind of thing before, in this kind of store... they have no idea how much people will pay, so they arbitrarily choose $6. THEY WILL CHANGE IT IF YOU SHOW TELL THEM IT IS TOO DAMN HIGH BY NOT BUYING IT.
JonnyBoy2U @ Jul 12th 2007 1:52PM
NO.
Quit Bitching
Going to buy the pack now...
Farseer @ Jul 12th 2007 3:48PM
Thank you. Speak with you wallets, people.
Keep in mind this will apply to the future as well. For example:
Oh, people will buy 3 old songs for six bucks, so let's sell Rock Band songs for six bucks a piece! They're new, and can be played with guitar, drums, and vocals, so they're worth it!
It will be people like jsn and JohnnyBoy2U who cause this to happen.
Bloated pricing on DL content FTL.

Seriously? This is what they call NEW songs? This was all on Guitar Hero 1. I don't want any of these songs. I want new ones.
Crono @ Jul 12th 2007 3:08PM
No, you quit buying. You are totally ruining it for the rest of us.
JohnnyBoy2U: part of the problem since April 2007
Buckshot @ Jul 12th 2007 4:50PM
Cry more noobs. $6 for 3 songs is a deal. I take it none of you were alive when 45's were available? What's that like the price of 2 packs of orange zig zags. If they put it out, I will buy it. They need to let us know how they are going to release the download for "Rocks the 80's" as a full oblivion style download or in bits and pieces.
polly @ Jul 12th 2007 5:28PM
120 per song
500 for 5 packs
2400 for the main set list
3200 for the main set list and the 17 bonus tracks
I'd be sold.
