Halo 3 Rumors: New grenade type and map editor

E3 has produced a few Halo 3 rumors that have been brewing deep inside the internets for the past few days. One of the rumors comes straight out of the Halo 3 E3 trailer when it was quickly noticed that a few of the trailer's video clips include what looks to be a new grenade type. The grenade type, as seen above, was mentioned in Joystiq's Halo 3 trailer analysis where they referenced the icon's look to The Art of Halo book, and it looks very similar to what is called the Supa Double Cap Bomb. Though, the art book's description of the Cap Bomb is nothing more than a flash grenade that shoots out sparky sparks, but here's to hoping said flash grenade has a Gears of War "stun" effect.

The second rumor comes from 1UP and their Halo 3 campaign impressions writeup. In their article, they mention that while watching the demo they saw a menu option called "Forge" and when they asked Bungie about it, they received no comment. Well, any good Marathon fanboy would know that Bungie used a program also called Forge to create levels in their Marathon series. So, does this Halo 3 Forge menu option confirm some type of multiplayer map customization? Possibly. What we do know is that some of these rumors could be cleared up in the September issue of EGM which will include brand new Halo 3 details. We can't wait.

Before this explodes into a raging flame thread, I would just like to say that the immature posts posted before me do not represent the attitudes of all PS3 supporters. There are still mostly "mature" PS3 fans, it's just the few retarded PS3 fanboys that give us all a bad name.

hey when there tlakin about another halo in the view form the ship the chief and the sarg is in, he tlaks about how its another halo and craz blue lighting right, but when u watch the frame from the enxt bit, the halo is almost over the planet, a planet, posbily earth which wouldbe very cool.

What exactly makes Killzone 2 so "cool"? It does look good, but it doesn't look any better than Gears of War or Call of Duty 4, except, it has even less color than those two titles; it's practically black and white. You can't really compare it to Halo 3 because:

1. Art style is completely different
2. Nobody here has seen actual Halo 3 gameplay

If you read IGN impressions of Halo 3 (they did get to watch some gameplay) they do confirm that visually the game is breathtaking to say the least.

Now, what I want to know is whether there is co-op campaign in Halo 3. There are indications that a second player might be able to take control of the Arbiter, but I'd like to be able to be in control of another Spartan. Beggars can't be choosers though I guess; even if you have to play as an Arbiter, some type of co-op is better than no co-op...

Hey Kill Zone Might Go 2 The 360 Because Of The PS3 Sales

wow I'm really surprised there are PS3 fanboys still. Sony's E3 was weak. They announced 3 decent games. Depending on Killzone 2 plays, I might get it. Impressive, but still doesn't compare to Gears of War (except there are more than 8 people on screen at a time).
I was more impressed with what I saw in Call of Duty 4.

The PS3 still didn't announce anything that made me go wow.

I think it's probably best to ignore the PS3 trolls. Let them have their one good game.

That's sweet. I've heard this before...Killzone, the Halo Killer, right? Move along. What is Killzone? A graphics powerhouse with no draw. Call me when they get 4 million pre-orders.

Hmm are you guys saying that Killzone 2 is the greatest trailer in e3?? Thats priceless because I still hear people talking about the Halo 3 trailer. When I ask people of what they thought about the Killzone 2 trailer, they replied with this, "What the hell is Killzone?"

I don't think Killzone is going to help out the sales for the ps3, maybe MGS4, but only for a limited time, if you know what I mean.

And, Microsoft had the balls to only talk about what they're doing this year. But hey, I guess I'd be bitter too if Killzone and Final Fantasy were all I had to brag about.

Personally, I believe that both consoles have their pros and cons. Neither is better than the other. Sure, better in different areas, but when it comes down to it, aren't we all just GAMERS? Since when did we have to be purely Xbox or Playstation gamers? What's the crime in liking games on BOTH platforms?

Halo 3 is a franchise that has earned a name for itself and has an enormous fan base. Even non-gamers know what Halo is. And this will definitely help push our beloved 360's sales. Now Killzone? From all accounts, the first game was below average, and the second installment is attempting to redeem the Killzone name - hardly a system seller or a killer-app some people claim it to be. Now MGS4 has earned its name almost just as much as Halo, and the franchise has a huge following. If anything can help Sony's PS3 sales, it would be MGS4.

What caught my eye was the Assassin's Creed demo!!!

Hey PS3 fanboys, have fun with Super Rub-a-dub till Killzone 2 comes out. Oh and go back and play Killzone see how fun the gameplay was. I don't care how pretty KZ is if it plays like hell (like the first one) graphics won't matter.

Assassins creed looks real nice but what i really want to see is the prince of persia. maybe next year

killzone 2 looked kinda...gray and dull. but maybe that's the art style. and that's cool.

there are people that like GOW, Killzone, and Halo. that's cool too, to each his own baby.

but as far as marketing power goes and what each franchise can do with their baby, Halo and Gears of War take the cake.

their look and art style are more iconic than Killzone.

when you compare hero and enemy types GOW and Halo are simply more interesting than Killzone's Nazis with glowing eyes.

Killzone 2 also has the unfortunate truth of being attached to the first Killzone...which did not receive stellar reviews.

heheh, and before i "get OWNED by Sony" i'd like to say I'm interested in the PS3 and what it can do but it's a shame that most 3rd party developers can't create games for it.

and for the record: COD4 does look better than Killzone 2 lol.

Kill Zone was Amaaaazing! I have never seen anything like it. The guy had a gun, and it was like you were looking through his eyes! And the place was sort of like a burned out warehouse. And when you shot a guy blood like got on your TV...from the inside! It was like I was in a time machine and jumped 10 years into the future.

Hahahaha.... too bad Sony Ownz and Carnage are the same people... he has been posting that same comment on every story I've seen today.

Nothing will ever be able to touch Halo. Get over it. Gears of War is good, but its not Halo.

I can't wait until Halo 3 gets a solid 90-95 score and Killzone SHOCKS people with an 80.

Alright so now that those guys are ignored, I wouldn't really want a flash grenade. I think theres a point where the options in the battlefield are too cumbersome, and Halo seems to be teetering on the edge. Bungie usually knows what they're doing so hopefully all these grenade types and such leave a balanced game.

And Map Editor looks sick, really looking forward to it :).

A map editor would be excellent, I have some ideas I'd like to see come to fruition.

I've heard different version of the 4th grenade type, from fflash bang to smoke grenade, either of which would be fine with me.

As for the trailer comparisons, at this point, I would state that the Killzone 2 demo looked the best (and I only own a 360). But, I did read the IGN preview of the first level, and they said that if Bungie had shown that, there would be no discussion about how impressive it is.

SOme of you have already mentioned this, but Killzone 2 has a lot more to prove than the Halo or Metal Gear franchises. Besides, most of the footage of the KZ2 trailer isn't battle sequence, per se, it's just waiting for the battle to start. The last part is battle, and it is on par with CoD4, MSG4, and probably a whole host of other shooter games that will be coming out. In other words, I didn't see anything that really set it apart from the crowd.

My friend has a PS3. He said he should of spent the money on a graphics card for his computer. Im sorry but i cant remember the last time a great sequel was made to a crappy game

Killzone was a great game... with just enough flaws to make it an annoying game... Halo 2 was great... Cheaters made it a horrible game... Killzone 2 so far only has looks to back it up... But whats the point of hot chick if she's like a dead fish?

The game looks good, but you know what. Most of the new FPS's that were shown at E3 looks good too. I'm spoiled with the cover system that Gears and Rainbow has.

I personally have all the systems, inwhich I haven't touched the ps3 since launch. I'm sure by the end of 2008 there will be something that would be worth playing. Until then, I'm going to be playing great games on the 360.

on the side note: that wii fitness is ingenius! finally I can work out and game.

I actually have a friend that used to love Halo... Now he could care less because it doesn't have a cover system like his new favs gears and Rainbow... which I enjoy but I miss the taking of the shot gun and running through an entire team option...

Halo 2 was a great game. It's sad so many "Halo fans" hate it for incredibly stupid reasons beyond Bungie's control, one being Cheaters. Any massively popular game is going to get hacked like crazy so that assholes can try to ruin the experience for us faithful halo fans just trying to have a good time.

Halo 3 will be an amazing game, building on both Halo 1 AND Halo 2's great gameplay and story elements.

You can see the frg on chiefs back about the time the warthog is barrling down the hill flipping. I think he's boarding an atv when you can see it.

Isn't is possible that the "map editor" is just currently in the menus for the developers?

It seems that IGN, 1up, and joystiq were impressed by the campaign walkthrough. Halo's graphics will be good enough to hold its own against games such as Crysis or Killzone and will be guaranteed to have stellar gameplay for the single player campaign mode and online multiplayer.

I am also a Wii fanboy, so I must say that the combined force of Mario Galaxy+SSB:Brawl will own Halo 3! ;)

The Map editor i believe. Does any one remember, the behind the scenes video for the First Halo 3 video(In the begining), the one were he's stading infront of the big forrunner structure. Theres a level seen in full texture and wire frames, being controlled with a 360 controller. If i was designing a level, i would use a mouse or sylus for more persice control. Could it be??

I thought the new grenade type was the bubble shield? That looks a whole lot like it to me. By the way, there are other great games coming exclusively to the PS3 besides KillZone 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4. LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, Lair, UT3 and Haze (This year at least), InFamous, Ratchet & Clank Future, The Agency(PC also), Home, and so on and so forth. Just sayin.
