Sounds very nice. I am not into portable gaming very much, but those definately sound like enough improvements to justify a new model. The TV/Output is a kickass idea, even if it does kinda defeat the purpose of a handheld. It is now a handheld and portable console. ;)

Did I... did I really just get called a NooB?

The standard packin battery with a PSP holds a decent charge. But Sony later released a second battery that has a 33% increased capacity.

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=11034001

Seems these are the only kind you can buy nowadays. So I may have answered my own question simply in the fact that the lower capacity batteries aren't available anymore. So yeah... guess it was my "nOOb"ness that lead me to believe the original batteries were still available.

they forgot to mention the speakers were moved at the ends of the LCD screen which to me is great cuz the sound would always point to the bottom making it less audible

Why would they go with gloss finish. Its almost like they want it to scratch.

I love how people say 'Its not as much a improvement as the DS lite' When all the DS lite did was make it smaller and the screen good.

This actualy adds new things, More RAM, and Video Out, and what not. It's a much bigger improvement.

I've owned 3 PSP's and 4 DS's (Only have one now though, gave one away, second stopped working, sold third to buy DSL).... suppose I'll be getting another PSP (Probably selling a PSP while I'm at it.)

I haven't really paid attention to the PSP since it's release, so I'm kind of in the dark here. But I was wondering if you guys have any idea what the price will be. The same as the current PSP? More? Less?

They said the price would be $199 US for this new one. The current PSP is at $169 US.

"Component or composite cables can be used for TV out, but Koller explains that PSP game output will only be component-compatible."

Why in the world would they do this? Can someone explain to me the rationale for having composite output, but then disabling it for games? I can't even think of a smart-ass reason!

Well, it may be because the games are generated at 480p and can't work over composite, or something along those lines. I doubt they'd go out of their way to disable it.

But wait a minute.. So do they old remotes not work on the new system? I use my PSP as an MP3 player on a daily basis, simply because of the convenience of the remote. If it doesn't fit in this new system, they'd better design a new one....

Perhaps, but supposedly the UMD movies are also 480p, and they said that'll work over composite.

Another thought: Maybe this is something that would/could get fixed via firmware update? They certainly do a lot of that firmware updating.

Might be worth a purchase for the TV output capability alone. Have to wait and see what firmware it's running and whether it can be hacked, though - they've probably included some new countermeasures to prevent it, even with the newly-discovered Lumines hack.

Wow, video out.. Then you can watch the handfull of good umd movies on a tv. Or buy a dvd player for the fraction of the price and watch thousands of movies.

Shit if it's $200 I might just buy one just so I can play MLB: The Show wherever I go. I love that game.

if you want to play psp games on tv, go buy a FUCKEN PS2 don't be retarded this is just an attempt to make UMD worth something. The whole point of any hand held gaming console is that it delivers something console can't, whats the point of playing portable psp games on tv that will be blown up and not look right?

The changes are minimal and not big leap like it should be, like the nub and some built in way to protect the screen. I'll still fear that if i drop the thing it will shatter, unlike ds lite

Moving the Memory Stick door also means that anyone who bought one of those Datel 4GB HDDs won't be able to use it without the thing hanging off the side.

... Though that'll probably affect a very small number.

It's running FW 2.50. Whether it stays that way before launch we'll see though.

I don't know how they are interlacing the signal but maybe it brings a performance hit with it? So that's absorbed while playing a film but a game needs all the resources of the psp? Just a thought.

Also I wouldn't call PSP resolution 480p... 480x272 is nowhere near 720x480. Sure the PSP will output the signal in 480p to your tv because that's the lowest res supported but it will upscaled. It should still look good enough though.

this is just plain sad.. :( sony is getting dumb.. and im really disappointed about the news with ps3 sucking. i wanted to buy it just for the Final Fantasy 7 remake. now i wont if its that much of a waste. (hold the stupid "fanboy" remarks. i know...) psp will never be able to touch the DS. with all the innovative games on it. and the ps3 dosnt look like its gonna touch the Wii.. haha. Sony is getting beat out by the same company all, or most, of us mocked and riddiculed for years.. oh the irony :)
