If I'm not mistaken, Sony had a live demo of Killzone 2, with one of the devs playing it on the screen. The idiots on G4 showed the live gameplay for a minute or so and then cut to one of the other big screens that was showing footage that has already been shown. You could meanwhile hear the audio from the live demo being played. Did you guys not notice this or something?

I don't think it's really winning. It's more like, sucked less then.

Winning would be Mega Man 2 or 3.

Microsoft scored a Megaman Legendary edition.

So I believe the results are as follows:
1. MS Xbox 360
2. Sony PS3
3. Nintendo Wii

If you prefer Halo, Microsoft won.
If you prefer Metal Gear Solid, Sony won.
If you prefer money and investing it, Nintendo won.

Nintendo also won if you prefer Smash Bros., or if you're fat and/or old.

It would've been a 3-way tie, but Nintendo secured fat folks and old folks, effectively winning E3.

Wow, it is really getting ridiculous at how slanted this website is against Sony and for Microsoft. While all the presentations had their high points and low points, Sony definitely had the best showing of the three, yet Joystiq semi glows over the Microsoft show, and gives backhanded praise for Sony. I know this is a blog, but is there any kind of objectivity, or does a blog have to be complete opinion, even when trying to bring news to people? Anyhow, still like the site, but hopefully it can gain some perspective and balance.

This site has always showed bias against Sony... but I have to admit I was expecting more from Sony. I expected Sony to have really pushed themselves to have over the last several months to have strong showing at E3, but it didn't happen. MS had nothing impressive to show, Sony had nothing to catch my interest (Unless your an FPS fanatic), And nintendo's big game was Mario. However I was interested in the new PSP desing. I don't own one, and I really want to play the first star ocean, this could get me off the fence and purchasing one.

Sorry Chris but I have to go with Sushi on this one. Sometimes the bias is subtle and sometimes it is more pronounced...to the point I ask myself why I even bother to visit this site.

Other than a few items like the Bach story popping up, jabs at MS are very few. Considering the way they have ripped people off for god knows how much money with the RROD, disc scratching, and drive failures, treatment of them has been fairly light. It should be a sign that people are surprised when MS gets negative press here. That in and of itself is an indicator. They deserve every bit the journalistic head slapping that Sony has received over their price point. More if you consider that MS deceptively cost people money whereas Sony's crime was showing you up front the price was high.

Some figures show as many people had 360s die as people that bought PS3s in the first place. Having had first hand experience at getting shafted by MS in this regard AND paying for a PS3 I know damn well which one I remember most.

The Son¥ fanboys are getting sensitive.

All the bad press must be bias, right? Son¥ couldn't just be screwing up.

I understand, $600 in a console also caries an emotional investment, getting ripped off that badly can only get your feelings hurt.

Congratulations to Sony for a strong show. They are getting back into the race where we need them.

They still have a hella hole to climb out at this point. If Microsoft just does a $50 price cut, then both the Wii and the 360 will be HALF the price of the PS3 going into the holiday season.

Somehow the perfect storm of Blu-Ray, Heavenly Sword, Home, Little Big Planet, and WarHawk have to move huge numbers of these pricey units in the fourth quarter. Ain't gonna happen in the States, but they have a slim chance in Europe / Australia, and even better in Japan.

If third-parties get killed on PS3 software sales during the fourth quarter, then Jack Tretton will see his shadow, climb into his hole, and we will get twelve more months of titles with XBox 360 as the lead platform, and PS3 getting the sloppy-seconds 30fps ports.

to say cutting the 360 price by 50 and it would be half that of the ps3 is just dumb...sure, technically speaking it would be. but we all know that the core version doesn't allow you to do half the things that the 360 is all about

I feel the same as Sushi-X in alot of ways. Every gaming news outlet/blog pretty much agrees sony had the better keynote. They showed a wide range of games from those coming soon to those that are in the works. Keynotes should tell you what you should look forward to, new things to get excited about, and sony's keynote did that in spades.

So I dissagree with Sony somehow being under microsoft. Especially considering the token causual stab-in-the-dark known as scene-it (a game i got in a box of cereal, pair with a controller blatently ripped off of sony's buzz controllers), and viva pinata party animals (wow, a minigame collection, i wonder where they got that idea?). Not to mention the Halo Halo Halo fest with the talk of the "HALO NATION", the slightly scifi-channel looking live action short, and a new sku that was announced to the sound of crickets.

Oh yeah, thats sounds like a winner. Dont get me wrong they have quite a few games coming this year, but beyond the holiday, all we were shown was the multiplatform RE5.

Also agree w/SushiX and Hatchetforce, though I would say most of the time the bias and backhanded comments are quite pronounced. Microsoft deserves as much or more criticism for their hardware issues. I'm completely unbiased as I have my PS3 sitting right next to my 360. They are both great systems with their own advantages and it would be nice if Joystiq could move past playing to the fanboys desires.

I'm sorry but..all I cant say is Wow.

Joystiq did an absolutely great job analyzing these keynote presentations and showed no bias at all, I watched them all and I can agree with the results and all the comments given on these. Sony's had one live demo, Microsoft had several. Live demos are where it is at in impressing people, we want to see working games, in action and on the screen. We don't want to see pre-rendered gameplay trailers - it's just a thing that we demand, we like to see it in action.

Although Sony did do a good job mixing in their Home with the presentation and even taking a picture of the audience and then uploading it in such a short time was a nice feat.

In the end - you guys sound like sony fanboys because I see no bias here.

I don't know about Joystiq bias. I think Sony and Microsoft did about equally well - neither one was particularly exciting. Nintendo? Uh...

I tend to think if anything I was hard on M$ at first since they were the first presenter in this new E3 format... a format which (for all three) leaves me bored.

And I still refuse to ever watch G4 again for that whole cut to commercial at the part you actually want to see debacle.

see you guys are getting it twisted you think things should be given to Sony because they are......well Sony. Uhhh No! Nobody's bias I'm sorry if the world has a stupidly high expectation for the clear cut winner of the last two generation of systems and also the company that holds the record for most consoles sold of all time...Now either it's me or your bias cause your looking at them like they are supposed to win cause they showed a bunch of CGI crap with no live presentations... WTF!!! Gears of War PC was better than every game Sony showed in my opinion but thats just me... But anyway Yes I hope Sony does well! Yes I'm gonna buy a PS3!! But there is no way I'm just about to say people are being bias, because MS HAD THE BEST SHOWING OF E3 PERIOD. Take it how you want it but I'll take Live Demos over CGI anyday....Oh and for the record Viva Pinata was AWESOME so dont hate cus its a kid show (Even though I'm not buying the party game) Sony did a good job though so my rankings go

1.MS
2.Sony
3.Nintendo

E3 FTW

People this isn't about whats been going on or whats coming out this year. This is about the conference itself. How well the companies did at the conference. Sure Nintendo has some great games coming out this year (Smash Bros. makes me cum). However, they didn't show these games. Grading the choices each company made in presenting these games is more what this is about.

Some of you people are just crazy. Nintendo's big thing they showed was Mario? They didn't even show Mario!!! They grazed over the hardcore games they needed to show. Nintendo did not do what they needed to do and that is final. Microsoft did far better then Nintendo, and there focus on games and more games coming out this year was an interesting take that partly worked. But E3 really is about showing us something new and interesting. Even showing us the old games, but what's unique about them would've worked. Really only CoD4 did that. Now Sony continued like Joystiq said there tone from GDC. They came to show games. Games from this year, and games coming. In fact Sony has just as many if not more quality exclusives (timed and not for PS3) coming out this year than Microsoft does. Warhawk, Uncharted, Ratchet, Heavenly Sword, Lair, Little Big Planet (demo that will factor into final game), SOCOM, Pain, UT3, Haze among others. They showed some games coming in 08 and beyond (Killzone, MGS4, Echochrome, Infamous, and GT5). You can't tell me you weren't impressed by MGS4, Echochrome, Killzone 2 and GT5 at least.

Pretty much every single site has been unanimous when it comes to how they would grade the showings

1. Sony A- or B+
2. Microsoft B+ or B-
3. Nintendo C- or a D+

The only times I frequent this blog are during E3 or othe trade shows and it's always the same. Kissing ms ass, giving oral pleasure to nintendo and shiting on sony. If sony gets bad news they make it seem much worse, if they have good news they make snide remarks and make it look like it's not important at all. If nintendo or ms have bad news they always look at the bright side and if they have good news they make it seem much more important than it really is.

The only requisite to be a joystiq blogger is to love nintendo, respect ms and hate sony. Sony was clearly the winner they had the better games, the better presentation and they didn't look like fools playing guitars or retards playing soccer.

I know it hurts you to give praise to sony but at least give them credit they delivered on their killzone promise and they showed that the PS3 is capable of games that the 360 will never match.

@monmin
dude, Megaman Legends is NEVER, regardless which parallel universe a person may live in, rated HIGHER than Mega Man X.

Also, the Killzone 2 demo was live gameplay. Read the Sony E3 Conference write-up.

As far as conferences go, disregarding all the information that came out recently (notably the limited 60GB SKU), Sony won by a fair margin (not massive but significant). Excellent focus on 1st party titles, a little sparse on the 3rd party (but we all know why). The UT3 announcement was a total surprise and the promise of PS3 mods to the game is interesting. The real killer was the price cut announcement. The new PSP hardware isn't really doing it for me considering they didn't really go into detail about the thing. Longer battery life sounds like a good start though.

But seriously, I am getting tired of seeing all these trailers. The PSN store has new trailers every week so we can get this stuff at home.

Overall the tone was much more enjoyable as well, they kept it light and humorous (and this time intentionally so).

This E3 was kind of a disappointment though. Nobody really had any showing that made me really want to be there. Basically nothing you could have missed by not being there.
