Taking a moment away from E3, Major Nelson updated his blog to give the latest information on Xbox 360 backwards compatibility. The whole list of new titles can be found after the break, and you can always go to Xbox's site to get the full list. This would typically be the part where we'd say something about how silly it is that the Xbox 360 has backwards compatibility issues in the first place, but now he's not the only guy in town with a problem. There aren't that many original Xbox games that are still worth worrying about. Our concern is more with the new version of the PS3 which will have "limited backwards compatibility," especially when there was nothing limited about its compatibility before. Oh well, if you're planning on getting the PS3 and you have a favorite old game on the system, make sure to check it will still work -- or got get yourself a current PS3 model while you still can.

Until they make a 360 sequel or get this working, I cannot be happy.
I refuse to pay $110 AUD to buy a game I already own. :\

Just to get a few facts straight
1. PS3 has BC for well over 50% of its library (1200 titles) several times the number for 360 and including MOST of the big titles - which means 80% or more of old PS2 DVDs WILL play
2. Its limited ONLY compared to the launch model - which had a PS2 chip. Sony was always clear that it would use software emulation and included the PS2 chip until they achieved significant BC (unlike 360). It would be lovely to have 100% BC but if YOU had a choice of paying USD30 extra for this, would you? Just for some obscure titles?
But facts dont really matter do they - 360 played just Halo 2 at launch and maybe 300 titles now, but its the PS3 which has "limited backward compatibility".
Just like the Killzone 2 trailer was a lie, MGS4 coming to 360, PS3 games look inferior (Dirt?) and PS3 has no games (I think about 10 exlusives in 1st year now including the timed Haze / UT3 versus ONE for 360 in 1st year - Gears - which is no longer an exlcuive)

Xbox had an Intel CPU and NVIDA GPU.
360 has an IBM CPU and ATI GPU.
So, many different calls are made to the chips and whatnot.
With PS3, it originally had the EE built-in, making PS2 playback almost as good as playing it on a PS2 (and perhaps better, since upscaling was added). And even with the models that have software emulation only, I'm sure Sony is able to work with the original code better, since they probably had a tighter grip on the rights to the parts (Microsoft, however, had a real fight with NVIDIA over the GPUs).
UT is timed exclusive which will makes it's way to both Xbox/PC.
what you've been called in the past was an idiot.
by fanboys on BOTH sides. you've turned everybody into an rfom HATEboy.
choice remarks by you: sony doesn't "buy exclusivity" (NCSOFT), doesn't "buy famous developers" (um, INSOMNIAC, NAUGHTY DOG, FACTOR 5???)and they don't "just have scifi first person shooters" right *R:FOM?* (are you gonna change your name to Unreal Killzone Haze?)
your "facts" are always wrong. and when challenged you always disappear. classic troll.

This would offend me if Nintendo made games with any edge to them. I mean how long can you swing the remote with grandma before your smile gets stale? "Oh boy I can play Super Monkey Footbal Fuck on my Wii!"
Reply
Super Monkey Ball is made by Sega, and has also had a Deluxe version on the XBox, so it's not entirely a Nintendo-exclusive series, but thanks for trying, better luck naming a Nintendo game next time!
It's not hard, here's a hint: it rhymes with Wario.

I'm seeing a few comments bitching about people ragging the 360 about the BC. Why?
The way I see it Microsoft is expanding the BC list while Sony is cutting theirs.
Explain to me how this is a good move after your initial console supported more games for BC than the newest one does?
And Nintendo...well, they just kick Sony and Microsoft in the ass when it comes to BC.
End of discussion.

Sonys backwards compatibility is almost 100% for ALL their machines.
The only back compat Nintendo has with home console is GC to Wii, and thats not saying much considering they are basically the same machine. The best they have ever done is with GB to GBA and GBA to DS, i.e 2 generations at a time. Sony have 3 generations running in PS3.
The Euro PS3 is at about 90% now with software, each firmware update had been including a SHIT load of games and improving on ones already emulated. And when Sony says the game works, it works properly, hell even when they say it has glitches its hardly anything. MS version of "Works" is that it loads, fuck if it plays properly or not.
I own 23 PS2 games and 25 PS1 games all of them now work apart from Eyetoy Chat video window freezes and Vib Ribbon freezes on the first level. So my personal collection is nigh on 100%.
Don't worry USA, your new PS3's aren't as bad as you might think. Every major game is running fine already. And with the recent firmware upscaling, they look mighty fine too on that HDTV.

BC is a privilege, not a right.

What really sucks? Wanted to play that so badly thr other night. Bought it for Xbox purely for the XBox Live at the time. So if I bought it for PS2 or Gamecube, I would have been able to play it....

If that piece of information is true troll then why:
1.Is there nothing in the link that you provided
2. isn't their any news about this on Kotaku or any other major media outlet.
Software giant admits there are 11.6 million faulty consoles, which it will have to fix.
Microsoft has admitted that every one of the 11.6 million Xbox 360 consoles sold in the past 19 months suffers from a design flaw that could cause the device to fail.
The firm will extend the warranty coverage from one to three years to compensate consumers, but does not plan to instate a recall or exchange programme.
Microsoft gaming chief Robbie Bach claimed in a conference call with financial analysts that the design issues surfaced recently.
"In the past couple of months we started to see significant increases in repair requests and call requests and significant attention from people," he said.
Microsoft did not disclose the exact nature of the problems, but said that it had made the necessary design changes and that units currently in stock will be upgraded.
The extended warranty period is limited to hardware failures indicated by three flashing red lights on the console. Users of consoles suffering from such problems are entitled to free repairs and shipping.
Microsoft estimated that the repairs will cost the company US$1.05bn to US$1.15bn, spilt evenly between the higher than expected return rates for existing consoles under the one-year warranty, and future returns under the extended warranty period.
