Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix demo on Xbox Live
Usually, we get excited by demos, heaven knows they've gotten us through some hard times, but we have a huge problem with this new one for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on Xbox Live. Namely, we can't believe the segment of the game the decided to feature. Why not just have an introductory level or two? Why not show Harry running around Hogwarts? Why in the name of all that is holy would they just show the scene where Harry gets drunk and walks in on Ron and Hermione making out before killing them both?
That's not a particularly fun scene to play, and honestly, if you haven't read the books it might ruin a couple of minor plot lines for you. (Oh, spoiler alert, BTW.) Why not just have a demo of the scene from the sixth book where Harry 's parents come back to life only to die in a skiing accident, if you want to ruin the whole thing for people? ... Oh, sorry.

i don't get the joke for some reason. but the demo is timed, VERY TIMED, two games of gobstones and that's all the time you have. very short. also, the models are nice for the main characters, but watch the opening sequence where the camera follows hedwig(?), the owl. there you can see how lazy some of the visuals are. especially the owl itself when it lands on harry's arm. baaaaaaad

I couldn't believe that it was timed either, I mean what is the point of that on a downloadable demo?
Saxon @ Jul 14th 2007 7:53PM
Yeah... I'm not sure I get it either. Didn't we get our fill of april fools jokes four months ago?

Ugh, I can't stand people who relegate hoaxes pranks to one day of the year only.
Anyways I'm pretty sure the joke is poking fun at revealing HP spoilers to a fanbase that tends to go mad upon hearing them. Like when that one guy dieing in the sixth book was spoiled.

Harry is the last Horocrux thus he has part of voldermot soul inside of him.....why else can he see what Voldy sees
that is why he has to die for voldermot to go away...

All of you who are spoiling the books for others are the worst kind of scum and you deserve to go to hell for it.
GET IT THRU YOUR THICK SKULLS. WE DO NOT WANT SPOILERS. GET A LIFE.

whatever "fan" hasn't read the six books by now deserves to have the story spoiled.
DWells55 @ Jul 15th 2007 2:16AM
See that's the thing. I picked up the 6th book the day it came out and was like 150 pages into it and loving it. Then I get on Xbox Live for some quality Halo 2 ownage and some idiot on the other team during a game of Team Slayer on Ivory Tower decides to scream "SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE!" Now, needless to say, I absolutely mauled the kid that game, but it was enough that I haven't picked up the book since.
I'm currently about halfway through Ghosts of Onyx, so hopefully I'll finish that in a few days. Then I'll have to finish the sixth book before the final one comes out. Because I know people are going to spoil the plot right away.

"whatever "fan" hasn't read the six books by now deserves to have the story spoiled."
One doesn't have to be a fan in order to want to read a series of books. Honestly, I might have wanted to read the books at one point, but there really are spoilers for it at every turn on the internet; idiots like you, who seem to think that a series can only be spoiled for someone who's the biggest fucking fan ever and, hence, has already read the books. Why, then, do you revel in spoiling the books for people? It's as if you take pleasure the knowledge that you might be punishing someone for not reading a series of books fast enough. Jesus, how much else is wrong with you?

Classy, Joystiq. Classy.

For me, this will go down as one of the worst demos I've ever played. Although the graphics were good, I think I played it for around 10-15 mins before the demo ended itself. And it was sooo boring. You were able to do one spell (or two I think) and that was to levitate chairs and hit people with them). And you also got to play 'gobstones', the most boring mini-game I think I've ever played. It was just a tiny courtyard and you couldn't leave it!
Ciaran Gallagher @ Jul 15th 2007 6:44PM
It took maybe a couple of hours for this to download and I was only able to play it for 15 mins. I've talked about some demos offering you too much, but this is far too little time to be able to see what the game is all about!

Is the 360 version as buggy as the Wii one? Camera glitches up the wazoo; buggy pathfinding; getting stuck on allies, enemies, etc; duels are totally chaotic (not actually a bug, but might as well be). Several times, my quest list was empty when I was supposed to have a quest, and I had to reload the save to get it to show up. One time, near the end, reloading didn't fix it. It went back to Costco -- those guys have the best return policy on the planet.
