How much do you like Metal Gear? Unless you're dressing up like Solid Snake to go grocery shopping, probably not as much as freelancing superstar, "Downtown" Dan Dormer. Yes, the man of a thousand nick names has hopped on board the analyzationtrain and stood on the rails long enough to deliver this in-depth look at the latestMetal Gear Solid 4 trailer.
Dan's two-part analysis (the second of which can be found behind the cut) is serious business and covers everything from shadowy figures you may have missed the first time to the military vernacular that may still be baffling you. So grab a drink and call a friend up on your codec ... it's business time.
So MGS4 is about battlefield control? Snake says "hmm, so he finally achieved complete battlefield control Looks like I was right in my prediction a month ago:
You only figured that out a month ago? At last years E3, they had the trailer that made reference to controlling "Body, Info, EMotion, and Battlefield", the first three were themes of the first three games (Body = Genes, Info = trainign Raiden, Emotion from Boss), so battlefield control was going to be a theme in the fourth game.
If I may interject, I have a few observations on the fight scene between Raiden and Vamp. -The higher pain tolerance show by Raiden may be much more than just pain tolerance. What I have heard is that most of Raiden's body has been replaced with mechanical parts, and he is essentially a robot, aside from his head. -Raiden's katana heating up is an allusion not only to the original Gray Fox, but to the tradition of a katana in the series itself. This points to a few things. The katana is almost certainly a high-frequency blade, as used by Gray Fox originally. The katana must certainly use vibrations to heat up quickly, and leave a super-heated blade with which to cut nearly anything, or sear (as with Vamp). Whether or not it is the exact same is yet to be discovered, but Gray Fox used it in a very similar manner to Raiden, slicing projectiles from the air. Despite the fact that Raiden may have received more inspiration from Olga than from Gray Fox himself, Olga was only proficient at blocking bullet with a sword that did not appear to be high-frequency. -Tokugawa Industry may have scavenged Gray Fox's remains from Shadow Moses (or however much was left), and in this, taken a battle-scarred Raiden and redesigned him based on the original ninja. It is far more likely that Raiden is more stable than Gray Fox ever was, and may serve TI either directly or indirectly.
Well that is I hope it does for all the 360 owners who want to play the game. That doesn't include me but I think it makes good business sense to have the game on the 360.
That aside though I just don't get what makes the game so good. All the trailers I've seen have either been full of random and completely confusing dialogue or wierd machines/fight scenes that make no sense.
Theres not a chance in hell of either of those things happening. The only games that I want that the ps3 has are LittleBigPlanet and FFXIII. FFXIII might be coming to the 360 and LilBig really isn't that serious to me. Especially since Spore will eventually come out for the consoles.
I have a hypotesis on the man in the sunglasses. The man in the sunglasses that is in the foxhound group is as you can see not becoming controlled by the nanomachines. This means that he may not be originally from foxhound...meaning that he does not have the nanomachines which leads me to think that there may be another country or association that is trying to bring liquid ocelot down as well...or who knows maybe evern to try to foil snakes plans to kill liquid. we will find out next year.
It's very nice, but could we PLEASE have a little bit of colour? I'm becoming really tired of all the "real is brown" nonsense that's become pandemic in games of late.
You're in a warzone in an area with lots of sand. Given that people are supposed to be in camoflauge, I don't see the colour scheme changing soon. At least they have an excuse here.
This trailer must only be understandable to people who've played a lot of the previous games. I've only played MGS2, and none of this trailer makes a lick of sense to me.
this guy should analyze roy campbell's never ending speech from the end of MGS2, because inquiring minds want to know what the hell kojima was on when he came up with that idea.
Am I the only one that mostly tuned out the storyline of Metal Gears 1/2 and 3? I couldn't tell you what they are about, above and beyond the nuke carrying robots of doom. 4 looks kind of lame if you ask me. I really don't want to play as an old fogey if I don't have to. Oh well

You're going to have to. Maybe for a year or two. I already caved in and bought a PS3 just so I don't have to :)

That's a pretty good analysis video. Unlike the GTAIV one, with the OMG PHONEBOOKS ON TEH FLOOR.

Raiden receives a high-frequency blade in the climax of MGS:2. Could this be the same one?

Forget it Johnyyboy, It won't happen. You will just have to suck up your pride and get a PS3. BTW, you will be a PS3 fanboy then. Trust me.

SOP = soldiers on patrol. hes trying to take over the PMC army for his own use.
Dabisu @ Jul 17th 2007 1:18AM
Could Raiden have been killed between MGS2 and MGS4 and he is just being used like a zombie as Gray Fox was?
Psaakyrn @ Jul 17th 2007 8:02AM
Unlikely, in a previous trailer, Raiden mentions that it's his turn to protect Solid Snake now.
Dark-Pen @ Jul 17th 2007 2:43AM
He missed hella shit.
Also, the "industory" thing probably won't be changed because its a reference to Policenauts.
