As fans of the 2K football series from way back, we had to feature the company's return to the gridiron, All Pro Football 2K8. Though we can't shake the feeling that we're watching the 18th season of a TV show where the real stars have been replaced by James Brolin and Dana Delany, if there's a competitor that's going to push Madden from "passable" to "great", we're all for it. Check out a trailer after the jump.
Aw, crap! Sorry about that. For some reason, their "New Release" column still shows the 17th. Thanks for letting me know, guys. Otherwise, I would have been very disappointed come Wednesday.
God, this sucks. Madden season is quickly approaching. And everyone knows what that means...
Every gaming ad for the next two months will always feature madden, week after week. At least 2-3 Best Buy and Circuit City ads where cover art will be on all the TVs in the ad.
"Man, this week sucks for the 360. i guess its a another summer dry-spill and I'll have to play the darkness. o well."
Except for the fact that I will sell well over 250 copies of NCAA08 for 360 over the next five days. I've played it, and believe it or not it really is an excellent game. These guys are right, apparently EA felt the heat and put some extra effort into NCAA as well. All-Pro 2K8 looks to be amazing as well. Although there may not be any games you like this week, the point is, NCAA08 and All-Pro Football 2K8 will outsell The Darkness 4:1.
I'm pretty sure the piece of paper inlay doesn't have a sexual preference... If you were referring to the fact that you don't find it appealing, even then I think you're a bit off base. I find it a lot more interesting than inserting new star in X position and titling "Madden XX" above him. This cover at least has some personality to it.
I for one echo the sentiments of the author when he says that anything that can push EA to actually do more than phone it in with Madden has GOT to be a good thing. I am so sick of the lackluster, only-game-in-town efforts from EA that I have forgone video game football for the bulk of the last three years. No one will ever convince me that eliminating competition with exclusivity contracts is good for anyone but EA. It sucks for the league to have their product represented in an inferior iteration, it sucks for other developers who may have innovations and ideas that will go unrealized, and it sucks for us who have to play with shitty old Madden, unless we choose not to play at all. So three cheers for Take 2. I'll buy it out of spite alone.
Ryan, I disagree. By EA dumping all its money into exclusive licensing rights, rather than developing the actual game to have enough quality to defeat its competition, we actually get a better game somehow. That is what EA said. I don't know why, but I believe them.
How is that even possible? That makes absolutely no sense. Competition and pride are the engines that drive people to make a better product. Not only that, competition is what leads to innovation: two different companies coming up with different and better ideas that the others steal to make better product. You will never be able to convince me that EA's exclusive license is good for anybody but EA.
I will be buying 2K8 for 2 very big reasons: 1. I love NFL 2K5 and I wept for days when I heard about the exclusivity contract. 2. I have despised EA for their lackluster effort to provide us with a great football game. I will buy 2K8 because I love the series and to vote with my wallet.
So, the only reason you like 2K8 is so it can motivate EA to stop fucking Madden? Really? The NFL 2K series was excellent, and All-Pro looks like it's going to be an amazing football game, even if it doesn't have the NFL license (fuck you, EA).
Meh week to me. I might get bomberman and i'd get parappa if i still had a psp (which i will again someday). oh well, between half-life 2 and mods, etc.; and stalker and the fear ex-pack im still playing, i think ill survive :D
Wow, am I the only one impressed by those animations when compared to the recent Madden videos? Madden still has some janky animations and collision. In my opinion, the series hasn't improved much since '03, but reached it's best play state in '05.
I, actually, do prefer the 2k series for the playability as a videogame. I like being in control of my players and the idea of being able to differentiate my own team from everyone else's. It seems very awkward when I can initiate crazy ass trades in Madden, which loses it's authenticity.
