I've seen that photochop before, or at least one just like it. Somehow I don't think just moving the analog pad would really make that much difference... then again, I don't have a problem with the Playstation style of controller to start with.

Heh. Has to be fake - Sony's design sensibility has always gone towards symmetry. Moving the D-pad and Left analog stick would ruin that. It'd probably be pretty nice, but it's not going to happen.

This looks shopped. I can tell from some of the pixels and from seeing quite a few shops in my time.

So now its a black 360 controller?

If this is true, it seems like there applying the 360 controller's features to the PS3 controller, one similarity at a time (triggers for the R2 and L2 instead of buttons, rumble, and now an anolog stick up one floor and to the left of the right stick).

Perhaps the result of some sort of legal wrangling on Sony's part? A stipulation that exact versions of their stuff can't be used in this context?

Or perhaps some excellent PR on Lucasarts' part- knowing the kind of reaction an image like this would get, I wonder what kind of increase in traffic they've received?

And lastly, if Sony really did redesign the sixaxis, I think they'd have a much better design than this for us.

Old news is oooooooooooooooooooold.

Hello Joystiq, and welcome to the internet. We have whats called a "search engine" by the name of "Google" that you may find useful.

Seriously guys, is it a slow news day?

Hm.... there's no PS button, you can see that there was originally a cord attached to the controller, AND you can still see the little "analog" light that the Dualshock and Dualshock 2 had.

I can't believe the main control of the PS3 is STILL the d-pad. That's so 80's.
I mean, if I want to do a circle I don't want to push four different buttons and make an angled 360 turn. I want purrfect control.
The d-pad is so awful for anything apart from arcade games and browsing menus.

I always felt that the Dual-shock would've been perfect IF developers had really utilized the right stick for the main analog control instead of the left one

Using the left one where it is feels awkward as hell every time, same with the Wii's classic controller

The 3rd generation of the sixaxis will be split into two halves joined by a wire. It will be called the PS3mote + boomerang add on.

I hope they do that. That would make for some of the most entertaining blog threads since Nintendo announced the name 'Wii'.

Wow... if this is legit, they aren't even trying to hide the ripping-off, if that's even a word.

Regardless, the overall shape of the thing is still more then likely going to give me hand cramps, so it looks like I'll be staying with third party PS controllers for a little while longer. I wish Sony would get the memo already that not everyone has tiny little hands like most Japanese gamers apparently do.

the stupid controller is the only thing that kept me back from buying the ps2 last generation. I cant stand it. It gives me crapms and my left finger is always slipping off the big buldgey stick. And for some reason, There exsist 1000 adapters to bring your ps2 controller to whatever console you choose but not the other way around. When the xbox brought out the controller S, I bought it. Now with the 360 controller, I can never even use the controller S anymore, let alone the ps3 controller. This may be a shop, but its what needs to be done to the controller.

I don't think so. I've always found having both sticks in a lower placement makes it easier to use all the shoulder buttons at once, but that's just how I hold the controller. I prefer it to the s-type or 360 controller

I don't think there's enough room to put the left analog stick in that sort of placement. Seems like the knuckle where your index finger meets your hand would be in the way.

That's what that stupid controller should've looked like 7 years ago.

If Sony does come out with a new Rumble controller, I hope they have the common sense to finally update that tried, old design to something like that. They literally bolted on two analog sticks to the PS1 controller in response to the N64's controller. An update is WAAAAAAY overdue.

You know, David Karraker has been so unreliable in his statements lately that him saying this is just a bad art render holds little weight, in my mind.

I hate the D-Pad on the PS2/PS3 controller.

If they make it just like the 360 D-Pad, that would be fantastic.

An I don't know why everyone is crying about the PS3 controller. It seems fine to me. It doesn't hurt my hands?

Offset sticks look horrible on the PS3 controller. I like the way they have it now. Its nice and easy to use imo, and it would be completely stupid to change that now - game controls will feel radically different.

They should also make the triggers concave instead of the convex design. I personally like the layout of the Playstation controllers. If they make a more comfortable controller using the same layout I'd be happy enough. I did see a picture of an edited version of the boomerang. The design of the pad made it looks quite damn confortable. Was pretty cool looking too.

Ugh I have never heard of anyone liking the 360 D-Pad over the PS3s. You must not play alot of fighting games because the 360 d-pad is atrocious.

I think we can all call this a fake. I mean for god sakes don't be so naive. And a horrible fake at that. Sony will never offset the analog sticks like they should. It's been the obvious choice for the past 10 years and they still haven't.
