Microsoft has announced the resignation of Peter Moore, current corporate vice president of the company's Interactive Entertainment Business. Moore will be replaced by former EA president Don Mattrick, who will become senior vice president of IEB on July 30.
Mattrick joined Microsoft in February as a "strategic adviser."
Moore will remain with Microsoft through August, and then will return to his old stomping grounds in Northern California to begin a new, unspecified job in the games industry. Earlier today,
1UP cited a rumor that Moore was headed to EA Sports.
Update: The rumor has been confirmed. Moore will leave Microsoft in order to return his family to the Bay Area and head EA Sports.
Joystiq has a scheduled call with Microsoft later today. We'll bring you updates as they become available. Details here:

I'm not quite sure how this could be a step up for Moore, though.

One of my friends described it best when he said to me that when Moore gave a speech or talked about something it didn't seem like he was trying to force it upon you. Rather, it was like he had something cool and exciting to him that he wanted to share with you.

And yes, I own a 360.
But, it was like, the shit he was full of was... better than average shit. So I'm still sad to see him go.

I would be surprised if he was. It's really difficult to hate Peter Moore, I've found.

He ran Dreamcast, and then jumped ship. Now, he ran Microsoft and is retreating again.
Gods what a coward. I guess when you cannot make a dime in 6+ years of being in business...oh wait, he not only did not make a dime for Microsoft, he lost over 6 billion dollars.
Gods what a tool.
Wonder how good the 40 year old virgin that is replacing him is at Spinning the truth.

You lucky bastard.
I wish Microsoft had asked me instead of you.
+1 to you good sir!
Whatever the case is, Moore has joined two companies that have wielded the lesser-powered but more user and developer friendly console, and lost out big once and obviously, it's too soon to tell how he was doing on this go round, although admittedly with Microsoft's deep coffers it won't be apparent for a few years.
It's a tough time to be the face of your company in this business, you're facing public scrutiny all the time and with the problems Microsoft has had lately, maybe the pressure was a little bit too much for old Pete to handle.
Microsoft's gaming division has got to be closing in on a world record for amount of money lost without closing up shop. They have been getting their collective asses kicked all over the place since 2001.
Maybe Dubya's administration should hire him away from EA.
The defective rate is within industry norms. PM
Dont worry about the devective rate, just look at how we are fixing them. PM

"I must make your day Jody."
I'm quite positive the majority the Joystiq community would be overjoyed at the notion of you NEVER posting on this site again.

Minus 100 pts for attempting to change the subject with a topic to try to garner some support and get people to agree with you. Leave your politics at the door please. This is a gaming blog.
Come to think of it...leave your religious beliefs which you apparently have to wear on your sleeve at the door as well. This is a gaming blog.
As a matter of fact, it would be best if you just stayed outside the door entirely.
Oh, and you're still a douche.
Even though I don't own a 360, I kind of liked him and though he was the face of the 360.
