Well, with only a 1200mAh battery it certainly looks like it's from the year 2000.

Actually, I don't expect sales to change much at all. Reason being the common consumer (mom and dad) don't realize the changes. Additionally, the new changes, while welcome, aren't really a leap forward the way the DS Lite was. The DSPhats problems were dim screen and ugly form factor. Both were fixed. The PSP's problem is low battery life and lack of mindshare amongst consumers. PSP-2000 fixes neither.

I don't really understand why they went from a battery with a larger capacity to one with a small capacity. Now that it is supposedly more efficient, wouldn't keep the larger capacity battery prove to have a longer life?

Maybe I'm missing something. It's possible.

PSP v2 will give you the same battery life as PSP v1. Sony managed to make the PSP battery consumption more efficient, so you get the same juice.

Again, I must be missing the point. If they made the battery more efficient, why not just keep the same capacity battery and extend the battery life? Did they have to go to 1200mAh due to making the PSP-2000 slimmer?

I can't believe the name. One move after the other Sony continues to baffle me. I would've never thought you could destroy a brand like playstation, but its not standing for much anymore.

They wish it was still 2000.

you do realise this is just a model number, right? as in PSP-2000 is not the official name, but rather a model number which all consoles/portables have.

its still Sony PSP.

But I don't care how efficient the PSP is. Electricity is cheap. What I do care about is play time, and this PSP doesn't have any more than the last one.

And with that, there should also be other notable changes, like faster charge times.

Ironically, I'm hoping this comes out soon here so there'll be a price drop on the old version, so I can actually start playing some PSP games.. (like Puzzle Quest, which I still can't find in stores both versions, and I sadly obtained the PSP version as opposed to the DS version during the developer meeting . (Sad only because I don't own a PSP, so I'll be happy when I finally own one)

(note: price is the only thing stopping me from getting one at this point in time, and I buy games about once every 2 months so having good games on the PSP still wouldn't influence me as much as a lower price on it)

Seriously why do people complain about a 3-6 hour (I Am almost always able to get 6 hours out of the games I play, never had this mysterious 3 hour) charge time. When are you on the go, away from being able to charge, and need to game for over 6 hours? I just don't get it. You can play while it is charging if you are in a car. If you are on a train or a plane, they both have outlets usually. If you are on a bus to and from somewhere, well then that's pretty normal too, hope that doesn't take 6 hours out of your day. Seriously, where are you going to play on a handheld for over 6 hours out of the day?

The current PSP is called the PSP-1000, so PSP-2000 is an obvious name ... but that still doesn't excuse how bizarre it is. How about a little marketing sex appeal, Sony?

Hooray for morons that didn't even take the time to see what the model numbers of the old PSP's were....

Just a model number guys. Until it's printed on the actual unit next to the PSP logo it's not it's official nor even semi-official name.

As it stands it's still just PSP. Remember? They said they weren't going to come out with new models, just revisions on the base unit, so a model number change without a name change makes sense.

What about PS-Hit? Cause I mean, that's what it is. A hit I mean ;)

Yes, we know it's a model number, but unless that was thick sarcasm I'm not sure Sliwinski knows it.

Also, the Wii has REV - as in Revolution - in its model number since they made the numbers before the name announcement.

Wow. People are seriously stupid. PSP-2000 IS NOT THE NAME IT'S THE MODEL NUMBER. I can understand some general nobody who knows nothing about consumer products or the Playstation brand in particular posting comments. But the author or the article who is supposed to know what he's talking about.. I guess any moron can create articles for joystiq. God...

RTFA fuckwit. People in the media have been refering to it as the PSP-2000, and since Sony have not bothered to give it a proper title, it's likely that this "2000" moniker will stick.

What I find interesting is that the model # suggests Sony thinks this redesign is significant (as in PSP2.0). I don't see that much improvement over the original design. It's like a PSP and a new ram dimm duct taped into a new case.

The x000 model number was what they did with the PS2 a number of times, its name is grounded in precedent

Lol...to put it simply...

Yes

And it doesn't matter what they call its still not that big a difference between the original and the new version. That plus the games library when compared to the DS is beyond pathetic.

And this is from someone whos last handheld was the GBA. Although I'm really interested in getting a DS Lite. The problem is that I don't have time enough for my Wii and 360 as it is so I have no clue when I'd fit a handheld into my schedule.
