it really doesn't matter what they call it. 1) There's practically no difference from the first one. 2) No one's going to buy one anyway.

1) There's 4-5 differences, look it up. (up this chat, I mean.)
2) Despite what you think, there ARE good compelling games for the PSP.
3) Despite what you think, the PSP has NOT failed. Just because one has lower sales doesn't mean that it's not successful. In fact, one could say that the PSP is the only successfull non-Nintendo portable game console since the advent of GameBoy.

Curmeo you do realize you're responsible for 1/3 if not 1/2 of all the posts in this thread?

Seems like you're the sony employee of the month to me.

PSP is an amazing system for gamers who want PS2 level games in the palm of their hands. PSP v2 just further sweetens the deal. 25.39 million units shipped/sold is not a failure by any stretch of the imagination.

Curmeo,

If you're going to launch a sales pitch, I recommend using the verbatim text from the PlayStation website:

"The PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) system is the first truly integrated portable entertainment system designed to handle multiple applications – music, video, photo, internet, and wireless connectivity, with games as its key feature. The PSP® system features an unmatched library of entertainment content, combining more than 135 games and more than 430 feature films, TV programs, and videos on UMD™ from major studios and record labels, as well as downloadable content from the internet."

Sounds enticing, doesn't it!

to Farseer: Try to take a more updated newspoint instead. -_-

"A more streamlined form of PSP, featuring a video-out port was announced. While maintaining the key functionality of the current PSP system, including the high resolution LCD screen, the new model (PSP-2000) is 33 percent lighter and 19 percent slimmer than the original version.

This new PSP weighs in at approximately 189g compared to the weight of the current model which is approximately 280g and measures approximately 18.6mm in thickness compared to approximately 23.0mm.

The addition of a video-out port, supporting a wide set of connections (AV cable, S VIDEO, D Terminal AV cable, Component AV cable), enables you to watch high quality UMD Video, and pictures and movies on your Memory Stick Duo, on your TV. Using a progressive scan TV and PSP specific cable you can also output gameplay.

Also, the new PSP is equipped with enhanced features that will temporarily store game data from UMD, reducing load time during gameplay. Moreover, the ability to now charge the unit via a USB cable connected to PLAYSTATION 3 or PC makes this new model even more mobile and accessible."

Psaakryn:

Nice! I think the two need to be combined for maximum effect. We need to be careful, though, combining those two could lead to a sales pitch of unparalleled power that may, without discretion, cause all Joystiq readers to drop their underpowered, gimmicky DS units and go buy the new PSP (2000). It is, unfortunately, something that I don't believe the world is ready for... yet.

When I click reply it sometimes works...other times nothing. So now I've gotten in the habit of checking to see if its replying or not.

But its annoying that we have to check to see if its going to do what we want it to do.

And I'm LMAO at your reply to OrganicShadow...

And I must admit that I'm just as guilty of posting a lot in topics I think are interesting or big news.

lets see,

it took GameCube 6 years to sell/ship 21.60 million units.

it took Xbox 6 years to sell/ship 24 million units, after an over $4 billion loss.

it took PSP 3 years to sell/ship 25.39 million units, more than double the sales of Xbox in half the time.

my point is not to make GameCube/Xbox look bad: they both sold well and certainly werent failures to their owners.

my point is to show your pathetic attempt at trying to make PSP look bad.

@Curmeo

We're not making the PSP look bad. We're just making fun of the term "PSP-2000," just like we made fun of the Wii.

What makes the PSP look bad are when people like you feel like they need to defend it from harmless jokes. Is it in such bad shape that it can't take a little joking around about it?

Apparently you think so.

Crono,

im fine with the fact that DS is trouncing PSP. i dont have a problem with that. but to imply PSP is failing because DS is outselling it is just plain stupid.

Anam,
and im making fun of people like you who are comparing an official console name, Wii, with a model number. you sound rediculous. if Sony PSP was actually called Sony PSP 2000, you would have a point.

unlike Wii, PSP 2000 is just a model number. you making fun of a model number just makes you look dumb.

It doesn't matter if the PSP-2000 is a model number or not, it's the only way to identify the new PSP, therefore, it's a de facto name. If Sony didn't want people referring to it as that, then they should have given it a name.

Since that's the only thing we know to call it, it gets the spotlight, and therefore, the jokes. If you don't like it, talk to Sony.

The new PSP's battery is thinner than the battery for the older model but the older batteries will work on this but the battery cover won't fit over but Sony is supposedly working to have an option to buy another battery cover to fit over the PSP, at least thats what Gamespot says.

So you get 4-6 hours of battery life on the old PSP with the 1800 mah battery and new PSP with 1200 mah battery. Use Sony's 1800 or 2200 mah official batteries on the new PSP for nice battery life. Or the third party options as well. : )
