Puzzle Quest announced for all platforms (except PS3)
D3 Publisher surprise hit Puzzle Quest has been on the march for months now. Having already conquered the PSP and Nintendo DS, the game was known to be preparing for an assault on the Wii and Xbox Live Arcade. We've now received intel on a move to the PC, PlayStation 2 and mobile phones, as well.
Original developer Infinite Interactive will be handling the PC version and co-developing the mobile with THQ's Universomo studio; the mobile version will be published and distribute by THQ via its ValuSoft and Wireless divisions. Vicious Cycle, recently acquired by D3 and who previously worked on the PSP version, will be co-developing Puzzle Quest for Wii and PS2.
Conspicuously absent from the announcement is mention of a PlayStation 3 version, either as a retail product or the more likely PlayStation Network download. We've contacted D3 for information. In the meantime, check out the highly addictive PC demo of the game.

Isn't a ps2 version TECHNICALLY also a ps3 version? Is should work on all current PS3 at least.
deaftly @ Jul 17th 2007 3:03PM
no.
Freedom = $1.05 @ Jul 17th 2007 3:07PM
Why not? It works on the PS3. If a PS3 gamer wants to play PQ they can. Even if it is a PS2 version.
kingalekz @ Jul 17th 2007 3:16PM
Technically a PS3 version is a version that was made for the PS3 and not a version that was made for another console. PS2 games are only emulated, and only if you got one of the early PS3s (those with Hardware emulation) you can be sure any PS2 game runs on a PS3.
So no PS3 version in sight.
john @ Jul 17th 2007 3:37PM
Are all Gamecube games really Wii games?
Are all Xbox games really 360 games?
Are all GBA games really DS games?
Are all PS1 games really PS2 games, which are really PS3 games?
Freedom = $1.05 @ Jul 17th 2007 3:44PM
Will PQ work on all current N/A PS3's?
Yes. I win : )
Anam @ Jul 17th 2007 3:48PM
"Are all PS1 games really PS2 games, which are really PS3 games?"
Playstation 3 Final Fantasy VII confirmed!
Vidikron @ Jul 17th 2007 4:23PM
LOL... you other idiots can claim what you want, but he's right. Since there's really no point in trying add extra flashy graphics to a game like this just for a PS3 version, the PS2 works just fine.
waves @ Jul 17th 2007 7:41PM
This argument is the height of idiocy. They have already made the high def graphics for the upcoming XBLA version (and yes, they do make a difference).
colin @ Jul 17th 2007 3:01PM
the ps3 version will come out spring 2009 and will sport 4d graphics
vidGuy @ Jul 17th 2007 3:05PM
The PS3 version will come packaged with the 120GB model for the low price of $699! Available this holiday!
JodyAnthony @ Jul 17th 2007 3:07PM
is the wii version a port of the psp version?
bazing
horngreen @ Jul 17th 2007 3:07PM
Good one Colin! It is sad that the PS3 isn't even considered anymore for simple little puzzle games. People please help out the honest folks at Sony and go buy a PS3.
Jonathan Tran @ Jul 17th 2007 3:13PM
Is this game any good?
And also, a PS2 port is not necessarily a PS3 port once the 80GB are phased in without the emotion engine.
Anam @ Jul 17th 2007 3:14PM
The PS3 couldn't handle the graphics. You Sony fanboys should really think about getting a Wii, it has all of hardcore stuff like Puzzle Quest.
You just get casual games like Metal Gear Solid 4. Losers.
kingalekz @ Jul 17th 2007 3:18PM
Why does this post have a Gamecube tag?
kennethrios @ Jul 17th 2007 3:29PM
Has the Joystiq community read 'Long Day's Journey into Night?' Are we condemned to an unendurable life of unremitting insult and counter, as never-ending as it is dreary? Can we not simply enjoy our consoles without having to justify our personal tastes to ourselves by performing like marionettes before the faceless and uncaring public? Why the depressing insecurity!?
Also, if this were a movie, than the wii would be Katharine Hepburn (she is hott!).
Anam @ Jul 17th 2007 3:42PM
Katherine Hepburn was just two silent actresses duct-taped toge- what the hell am I saying?
JodyAnthony @ Jul 17th 2007 3:49PM
"performing like MARIOnettes"
anti-nintendo fanboy confirmed! you are bias!
Rubang B @ Jul 17th 2007 8:15PM
That's funny. I duct taped two silent actresses together and all I got was a motion-sensing Nosferatu.
MooseMuffin @ Jul 17th 2007 3:35PM
Why is it taking so long for this game to come out? I enjoyed the PC demo and have been patiently awaiting its xbla arrival.
Psaakyrn @ Jul 17th 2007 5:37PM
Publisher/marketting strategy. (The PC version was actually ready long ago, just waiting for the green light from them.)
Shagittarius @ Jul 17th 2007 3:42PM
Why would I want to own this game after already playing the DS version? What will make it fun to play again?
Konny @ Jul 17th 2007 3:47PM
Its about quickly cashing in on a fad.. saturate the market by putting it out on as many platforms as possible before the hype winds down.
Nobody will care about this by the time the big Fall gaming season starts.
billychaos @ Jul 17th 2007 3:52PM
I own the DS game, the only way i'd buy the Wii version is if you can upload your DS character and use it to battle with online, like you do with Pokemon Battle revolutions.
Rask @ Jul 17th 2007 3:54PM
Woa. That screenshot looks sooo much better than the DS version.
I'm gonna havta re-buy this for the 360 Live Arcade if it looks that good...
kennethrios @ Jul 17th 2007 3:57PM
That’s clever. I wonder how many words have the term “Halo” or “Master Chief” sercertly contained within them?
DayWalker @ Jul 17th 2007 4:13PM
Damn you D3! As if my addiction wasn't bad enough on the DS... now I'm going to have to buy the Wii and XBL versions too. :P
Truepatriot @ Jul 17th 2007 4:38PM
any word on price for xbla version?!? im just not willing to pay $30 or something,im assuming because of the retail version,on xbla.come on $15-$20!
Vince @ Jul 17th 2007 4:58PM
Puzzle Quest is a great single player game, but multiplayer puzzle quest is not so great.
k0sm0s @ Jul 17th 2007 5:25PM
I somehow feel that the "all platforms (except PS3)" looks like a hidden insult XD
Well if it's being made on PS2 I supposed it should be able to play on the PS3 at least..
side note: I didn't really enjoy PQ myself.. too slow paced for me.. Planet Puzzle League ftw!!
Mohan @ Jul 17th 2007 5:34PM
Sweet, bring on the versions. I myself will be picking this one up on the Wii.
Psaakyrn @ Jul 17th 2007 5:40PM
And also, why not PS3: Don't forget that the PS3 is a complex machine, and Infinitive Interactive isn't that large a company. Maybe if the PS3 is easier to program for will we be getting a PS3-specific version.
Wes @ Jul 17th 2007 9:43PM
That and a larger install base to potentially sell more copies?
Troy Adam @ Jul 17th 2007 9:55PM
The PS2 version would be more than adequate to play on the PS3 for a freaking PUZZLE GAME. I'm sure they would have reduced the production costs by making the 360 version for the Xbox instead, except nobody has made an Xbox title in years and years.... same for Gamecube.
