@44

U hit it right on the button pal. That pretty much sums up the whole issue here. I feel the same with a game like say, Rainbow6 Vegas. U can be miles apart in that game as well and there are no issues. Just make it play like it dose offline. Teleport the slacking player or players when the guy in front hits the checkpoint. Its not hard Bungie damn. They even managed to do this in Doom 3 on the original Xbox.
Bungie really is a bunch of scrubs, either that or severly understaffed.

Sounds like they are going to charge for the Co-op. once again shipping an incomplete game.

I share the sentiments with a lot of posters here - this game is edging closer and closer to be moved from my "Buy" list to my "Rent" list. I honestly think it's unforgivable for a developer (of Bangie's caliber) to omit a desirable feature like online co-op campaign from a AAA, next-gen title such as Halo.

I cannot express in words how much fun I had playing through Halo 1 & 2 on split screen! Unfortunately, a full time job and a general lack of time restricts me from having a friend over or going to a friend's house for a session of Halo campaign. It's simply not feasible at this point in my life. And I'm sure a lot of people are in similar situations, and would love to have an option to play some Halo 3 campaign for an hour or two with a friend over Live before going to bed...

WTF! NO! That was one of the main reasons I was even going to bother with it.

Come on, Frankie. "would not make it feel like Halo anymore." - Don't give me this crap. People will have fun playing co-op online, even if you can't be a mile apart. "If you build it, they will come".

Why is it that Bungie are incapable of putting something in that every other developer seems to have no issue with (mile apart games included).

The Halo 2 netcode was laughable (unless you happen to have 1ms pings to the host) and it would appear that Halo 3's netcode will be no better.

This is almost enough to make me cancel my preorder.

What a piss poor excuse from Bungie. Looks like this game is only going to be worth buying for the MP component now. What with Epic selling out and now Bungie coming with lame excuses, whats next?

They didn't say it's not possible, they said it's difficult. I imagine it's a matter of netcode - trying to keep a couple of square miles/100-100's of enemies in sync probably creates too much network traffic.

Hey, it still might be put into the final game u know guys, its not completely cast aside like somma u make out! In Halo CE and Halo 2 in Coop, wen the player ahead of the other got to a checkpoint, the other player wud get teleported to right next to the first player. They cud do something like that in online co op, but they might not want to restrict player distance from each other.
Im alright with just offline co op personally, but online wud be gr8!
Go bungie, new weapons, vehincles and equipment! Cant wait for september!
Oh and for those guys here who said Gears of war and rainbow six ave live so why not, Halo massive levels, halo 3 is gonna have levels that are 10 miles big, huge! in gears and rainbow six yor always in prritty close quaters with with other co op players. Gears yor virtually together all the time compared to how big spaces can be between players in Halo!
Don't compare co op in other games which have different styles in gameplay and game design!
Just wait till Halo 3 comes out, bungie know wat ther doin! Ther pro developers, givem some slack! Theve got the best workin with em now.
Gd luck bungie, gr8 job so far

Alright I've been reading all of your posts and here's the consensus...

No online Co-op is Extrmeley shitty... We know that and I agree there are no excuses not to to have it incorporated into Halo 3, it would be the naturally logical next step.

However a few arguements were made that show the lack of intelligence coming from a minority of the users on this site... For example...

"Halo 3 is going to bomb because of no-online co-op"

How the hell can you say something so stupid ?!

Are you telling me that Halo 3 is going to be an unsuccessful game in both sales and ratings based on the fact that there's no Online Co-op ?? ARE YOU FUCKIN NUTS ?!? Did Halo 1 or 2 have this feature? IDIOTS !!!! Anyways...

Another arguement made was "GOW did it why can't Halo 3"... Like another much more informed intelligent user had previously answered... They are 2 different games !! You can't compare them, The storyline, gameplay and engine are completely different.

Last thing... Frankie stating that "If it can't be done properly we won't do it at all" is garbage... We know that...

If it CAN be done it SHOULD be done no matter how shitty. Atleast give us the choice or the opportunity to experience this feature in a Halo game. I'm sure it'll have it's problems and I'm sure it will shine at certain points.

But if you can do it...

THEN SHUT UP AND DO IT !!!

Regardless, like I've stated before, the campaign will definetely be a very exciting experience... Although the graphics and animations are very good they definetely don't look to be ground shattering by any means HOWEVER !!...

The Storyline, Music and Epicness of this game will be untouched for quite some time...

Trust me... If you all knew what myself and a few of the users on this site now know... You'd be excited about this game no matter how much Bullshit Bungie throws at us...

This game could have no multiplayer, no co-op and any other shitty scenarios you can think of and I'd still go out and spend my money on it... WHY you ask?

Because CRAZY SHIT IS GOING TO HAPPEN !! and when it does I want to be holding that controller in my hand deciding my fate with nothing more than an MA5C and a Pistol.

It is going to be difficult to grasp the true scale of "what on earth is going to happen"... PUN INTENDED...

Do you want to know how epic I'm talking here?

Listen... Take the earth... Rip a large object out from underneath it's crust into space, add earthquakes, hurricanes, Explosions and one massive space and land battle 7 times larger than the clone wars all at the same time... Then add flying debris everywhere, one pissed off tentacled creature and a fucked up AI with an agenda of it's own. Spin that in circles at Zero G and BAM !!

THAT my friends.........

Is the last level...

Of Halo 3...

okay, first: i doubt many people will see this, but whatever,

second, all of you people complaining: shut up and appreciate the epic game yu will undoubtably buy. i am getting it no matter what. also, before you criticize games for not having online co-op, try making a game with a tenth of the caliber of the ORIGINAL halo. you pretty much would die trying.

third: this is an actual comment about one of the vehicles: the Hornet. i remember from the pc version of CE there was a mod with a vehicle called the hornet. it was a human made vehicle with banshee flight capabilities that fired machine guns and a "Stinger" (rocket). I remember it being a popular mod, so is it possible that bungie used a fan made idea for the vehicles?

fourth: way to go bungie. dual shotties, gravhammer, flares, regenerator, all thats missing is the pelican. please bungie, please.

WE HEART BUNGIE!!!!!!!

What about the Mongoose, and all of the new weapons? Thats a flaw about 360 no 4 player offline co-op. Thats what I loved about Xbox I, 4 player co-op, or team.. whatever.
Because I, unlike all extremely lucky players, dont have Xbox Live. Oh How I envy you..
