Ohhh, is that where Too Human was during E3?
We'd be lying if we said Too Human's absence from the "everything this year" Microsoft press conference wasn't noticed. Especially considering Too Human is still theoretically supposed to come out this year. How many times must Denis Dyack and the team at Silicon Knights have lemon juice poured into their papercut wounds caused by the stammering flipbook presentation of Too Human at E3 2006? Well, until we play a version of Too Human that doesn't look like a Ray Harryhausen stop-motion monster (and if Harryhausen had computers we couldn't even say that). With Halo 3 and Mass Effect already slated for this holiday season, we're already feeling like we'll be stuffed with sci-fi epics -- so will Too Human make it on the plate?Dyack tells GameDaily, "We made the decision not to show Too Human at the press conference some time ago. The reason for this decision was that we have another event planned in the future for Too Human that we thought would be more appropriate ... Not attending the show and setting appointments with the press was due to Silicon Knights being extremely busy finalizing the game and we simply could not spare the time." Microsoft, who is publishing the game, apparently didn't want to comment on the story. Too Human did show off some in-game engine footage recently, but for a game that is supposedly still coming out this year -- and was already expected last year -- we've heard next to nothing about it.
Update: We got an email from Eurogamer letting us know that during an interview they did last week the soon-to-be dearly departed Peter Moore said Too Human would be shown in 2008. The wording of the quote doesn't help explain if Moore is saying Too Human will be out in 2008 or just shown at next year's E3 -- whenever and whatever that might be.

Maybe this game doesn't contribute to society?
Slvrgun @ Jul 18th 2007 10:11PM
Leave them alone to work on the game. It'll come when it comes and it will be a great game. Just give them time. Its not like this game is a Duke Nukem Forever.
Mitsuo @ Jul 18th 2007 10:11PM
does anyone else not care about this game? I mean really...apparently the 3 of the biggest titles for the 360 I could care less about. Halo 3, Mass Effect and Too Human. None of these just struck a chorde with me for some reason. Now the opposite can be said for BioShock.

I care!

I for one think the game looks great. It has been in the works for a long time. The in-engine cutscenes look marvelous, regardless of what a few idiots here say. And the game was demoed by several journalists in the past, all leaving with good impressions.
The gameplay has been likened to DMC + God of War (or any other well known hack n slasher) + an RPG. It also allows online co-op. It is a big budget blockbuster from a dev with good history. People cling to the 06 video and the fact that it missed two consoles as their reasons to hate the game. Well, and Dydak.
But nobody who has seen gameplay has ever really said anything negative about it. It will be a great game. You will have to come to grips with that some day.
Fuzzbee @ Jul 18th 2007 10:14PM
I think there is no harm in this slipping to 08, there are already too many (hopefully) great games coming out from now until the end of the year for me to possibly play.
The only reason I'm still interested is that I'm a big fan of action RPGs, and they mentioned a skill tree, and I'm just a sucker for skill trees.

"Its not like this game is a Duke Nukem Forever."
Not quite but is on its third console now and was originally shown in 1999.
NegativeZero @ Jul 18th 2007 10:22PM
This game has a huge amount of potential. They put a video up on the Xbox Live Marketplace during E3, though, and to be honest I wasn't that impressed. Granted it was being done with a reasonably impressive in-game engine, but there was something about it that seemed really off which I couldn't put my finger on. Something to do with the animation, I think. I don't think the characters had a convincing amount of weight to their movement.
Vegan @ Jul 18th 2007 10:22PM
This game is going to turn out so shitty, its not even funny. One of the worst trailers i've ever seen in my life.
Zeruel @ Jul 18th 2007 10:27PM
I think it is important to remember that this game was supposed to come out for the PS1 in '99. That was EIGHT YEARS AGO and we're still getting a song and dance from Silicon Knights. It has already passed through three friggin' systems before it came to the 360. I gave up caring a long time ago, and Dyack's little spaz to the EGM peeps a few months back was the icing on the cake.
Simply put, this game had its chance to shine a long time ago and I think that as time goes on the ingenuity that the game once had will all be gone because other games effectively stole the effects they made exclusive.
Ninegauger @ Jul 18th 2007 11:00PM
Like Rare did in the old days, just keep it in development until it's awesome. I look forward to seeing how the game turns out. Though it might get lost in the shuffle if it is in fact releasing this year.
jason @ Jul 18th 2007 11:06PM
I believe this game will have 4 player online co op and the videos on ign look great, hope it does get pushed back at least in to late december so it doesn't get lost with halo 3, gta iv, mass effect, and all the other good games coming out this year
TwistedBishop @ Jul 18th 2007 11:10PM
It's been in development a very long time, but a look at its history shows the pretty clear reason why. The PS1 development was interrupted by a Nintendo partnership and followed by a Microsoft one. They've been adapting to different hardwares and constantly upgrading the engine (current version being Unreal 3, so who knows how many times they've had to rip the code apart and start back over). It's less a comment on game quality and more indicative of unfortunate timing.
And seriously, the EGM guys need to grow up. Every chance he gets, Intihar drags out his little fued with Dyack. It's such a great example of professionalism.
We've got developers who post long, foul rants against an offhand remark or a slightly lower review score which don't merit this sort of constant attention. But Dyack says that the preview system is screwed up by judging a game years from release, and THAT makes him a villain?
Sidepocket @ Jul 18th 2007 11:22PM
See, now if he only had sense to not show off his unfinished game last year instead of this year then he would not have the backlash that he has now.
Dennis smart? OMF BBQ!
Cal @ Jul 18th 2007 11:35PM
why does this guy keep popping up. who cares anymore, talk to him when it gets released.
Car2oon @ Jul 18th 2007 11:55PM
WOW! I think Dyack is going to break the record for having the longest period in the world!
Felix.jc @ Jul 19th 2007 1:09AM
Dyack will not show the game until its done. He's said as much on podcasts and written interviews.
The backlash from E3 2006, has made Silicon Knights extremely gunshy. Good job press, is this good for your business model? Is this what the readers wanted?
Both MS and Sony are re-evaluating the worth of EGM, EDGE, etc.
Judge the final product, not a snippet from 18+ months before the games release. That makes sense to me.
Jason @ Jul 19th 2007 1:43AM
You may not have noticed, but there's an E3 2007 video of Too Human on the XBL Marketplace, even though it wasn't at the show.
And you know, it's pretty damn cool.
deaftly @ Jul 19th 2007 10:32AM
yeah i was about to say, i saw that vid the other day, it was pretty impressive actually
ssuk @ Jul 19th 2007 3:57AM
Journalists are human as all of us, unfortunatly they can slip from their professional mind-set and have grudges against people or companies. It just happens.
koston. @ Jul 19th 2007 5:36AM
Can't we all just agree to let developers tell us when their game is ready? Fable2 has got it right, when they're ready I will be there to freak out. I want my 360 GOW (the cool sword one).
Maybe they're retooling it to have incredibly realistic panty shots?
felixlighter @ Jul 19th 2007 8:27AM
I watched the new trailer they made available on the Xbox Live Marketplace and it didn't really impress me. It appeared to be an in-engine cut scene but the character models, in particular the face models just didn't seem to be at the same level of detail as other Unreal 3 Engine games. I know I'm basing my opinion on graphics alone but what else do I have? I've only heard negative comments about the E3 06 demonstration with the caveat that it's Silicon Knights so all the problems should be worked out. With all the great games coming, this game is almost completely off my radar.

An excerpt from the newest game informer's calander page:
"August 07:
Too Human: Part 1 - 360"
Think this is going to involve some sort of time travel?
LousyNixon @ Jul 19th 2007 8:45PM
LOL I told you guys at Mahalo that Too Human was there cram the 400mb video into your 360
