You may have noticed that the non-zombie gentleman in that hot, hot Resident Evil 5 trailer bore a striking resemblance to Chris Redfield, star of Resident Evil and Code Veronica. That's easily explained by the fact that it totally is Chris Redfield. Famitsu got the scoop from producer Jun Takeuchi, who said that RE 5 will take place 10 years after the first in the series, and will follow Chris as he investigates a situation for a group called BSAA.
Chris will face off against some non-zombies in action that Takeuchi said was similar to RE 4 with some new features, including forcing players to allow their eyes to adjust to different light levels when they enter and leave buildings. As demonstrated in the picture above, squinting is the new waggle.

If he wore an eye patch like pirates he could have night vision and day vision for any lighting condition!

Too bad they are not all white people then you could claim minorities were under represented in games.

I heard that this game doesn't even have zombies. Its just Chris running around unloading on black people. Oh, and the BSAA is secret code for KKK.

RE4 is the worst RE game in the main series. It doesn't even FEEL like an RE game. I'd kill to go back to the slow-paced hall crawling gameplay.

I have to agree.
RE4 was action packed, but that's about it. I miss the classic RE games that offered a solid mix of horror, running, gunning, searching and solving small riddles. RE4 was just about running to the next area and killing the next wave of enemies. That’s too flat and not fun in the long run for me, but RE2 and RE:Zero remain fun after all those years.

now wait a second. Chris was only the star of HALF of Code Veronica. The second half. The seconds half I never beat. Was the ending any good?

Great, so when I transition from light to dark or dark to light I won't be able to see anything. Everything will be black or blazing white while I run around looking stupid trying to avoid being killed until I can see what I'm doing. And they called waggle gimmicky?

Pirates wore eye patches for night vision. Eyes have two sensor cells. Cones and Rods. Cones detect color and rods work with night vision. As light enters the eye the rods shrink and cones expand. In the dark the rods have to stretch to their original size taking time to do so.
The eye patch comes in that an eye is adjusted to the darkness. The pirate can then wear a patch over it. Then in darkness the eye patch is switched to cover the day eye. The night conditioned eye needs practically no time to adjust since the rods are already stretched and active.
It can also go the other way. Such like they're working in the not so well lit hold and need to go on board. The night adjusted eye gets covered and the day eye is ready.

Hm, I didn't know that about eye patches, interesting.
I'm hoping the light and dark wont be that extreme. I remember they did a little bit of that in MGS2.

Yea, I seen that episode of Mythbusters too. However unless eyepatches are an item in the game I don't like the idea of trying to shoot something I can just make out either in a wash of bright light or a enclosed area of shadows. Much less not being able to see anything only to hear something coming for you.

Actually Chris Redfield made a cameo appearance in Code Veronica. He came to the island to search for Claire which was the main character.

After playing RE4: Wii, I really wish they'd port this.
And yes, I do own a 360 and PS3, but would still rather have the infrared controls over the improved graphics.

I actually can't say this for most games, but I do agree with you there. Re4 was meant for the Wii and it's a shame that all it gets is Umbrella Chronicles.

You forgot to mention that it was also said in the interview that RE5 won't be out in 2008. It is more likely to release in 2009.

And I want Leon to be in the story somehow...like in a completely unexpected twist Leon is actually behind EVERYTHING, from the big bang to Atari's E.T.

Resident Evil 5 looks pretty awesome and I think Capcom is set to deliver another strong showing. Chris Redfield is a cool character too, so I'm looking forward to seeing his storyline progress. Here's to RE5, and for that matter, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronices. And heck, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix!

Damn hes fine....but he looks retarded squinting like that.
As for RE5 I'm hoping it has a great storyline like 4. So far I haven't heard much about it. And also I want there to be a lot of fear/scary parts in the game like 4 had. I don't know about yall but 4 was definitely one game that had me on edge the ENTIRE time. Thats RARE in todays world of gaming. Most of the time things that are meant to be scary just come off as corny to me.
Anyways I'm looking forward to the game.

Why is it that in the gaming world when ever you have to adapt to something or go outside of the box, its considered unnecessary or gimmicky. Have you ever actually ever been out in bright sunlight and then go inside a dim room. Every thing is all black and fuzzy. Wasn't the whole point of next gen to make games more like the real thing?
