@ Erik,

what are you talkin' about? PS2 has sold more than 120 million units so far, after only 7 years of production.

i dont even care which console sells the most. im just enjoying my PS3 right now, will enjoy the PSP-2000 in September, and will enjoy a 360 when the 65nm version comes out.

That would be great if last gen systems meant anything to the future of the company. I'm still trying to decipher how "Everyone's favorite burger place" could be in third place in the current console war.

The NES also sold alot of consoles, but that is neither here nor there.

*for some reason, only replies are working for me on this article's comments section*
@ Erik,

did you actually bother reading the post? Tretton was refering to the PS2 as the "fav. restaurant" and the PS3 as a "steak."

like i said, i dont care that PS3 is third place. why do i have to explain the reason to you? im enjoying my PS3, as are 3.78 plus million owners. thats all that matters.

@Curmeo

3.78 million you say? How darling. And I suppose that another plus the PS3 has going for it is that you can walk into any electronics store, have an employee dust off the box with NO worries that it will be out of stock.

Though the 3.78 million is kind of insignificant when you realize that both the Wii and 360 have sold around three times as many units as the PS3. To think of it the 360 has sold as many defective units as PS3 has sold working units. Thats comedy there.

Of course you don't have to rob a liquor store to buy a Wii or 360.

Digi Smalls,

"to take any public facing employee of a company at face value, whether Jack Tretton or Peter Moore, is letting the brand tell you what to think. this frankly insipid analogy included."

so Person A agrees with Person B and this automatically means the above paragraph? i think you're argueing just for the sake of argueing now.

"no, you'll never see me writing "go MS" or "go Sony". these size of these two companies are so large, with so many departments, external partnerships and contract outsourcing, to expect any kind of loyalty besides the manufactured PR kind."

hey, to each his own. i, on the other hand, like to support/pay tribute to the people who made it possible for me to enjoy all the amazing games ive played over the years, from the Atari 2600 to the PS3.

nice brandboy manifesto.

of course companies that consistently provide good products deserve loyalty, but Sony and Microsoft are massive global media/technology giants, with many goals and priorities that outweigh your devotion to videogames.

i'd save that loyalty for individual developers or smaller companies that do focus purely on games and even manufacture their own hardware ie. Nintendo.

i've personally never been fond of Nintendo games, but i can't deny the fierce loyalty that company has cultivated. their brand is built on their homegrown product not a PR/branding agency or non-game associations.

with Sony and MS, i can only appreciate what *some* of their departments have done, and resent their other departments when they inevitably get in the way.

some more than others.

Digi Smalls,

"i'd save that loyalty for individual developers or smaller companies that do focus purely on games and even manufacture their own hardware ie. Nintendo."

i dont care how big or small the company is. i dont care how rich or poor the company is. i dont care which company is the underdog and which company is the evil monopoly etc etc. i just care about one thing: a quality experience.

Wii's online service doesnt impress me. PSN and Xbox Live both impress me.

PS3/360 hardware/software impress me.

Xbox 360's unstable hardware does not impress me, which is why i dont own one right now.

Wii hardware/software does not impress me.

and yes it is possible that not everybody feels that Sony is "shoving Blu-ray down our throats". im actually glad PS3 has a Blu-ray player. i love movies. i love watching them in HD, and Blu-ray is the dominant format and will likely remain so. i love the fact that Blu-ray is region free and that its highly scratch resistant, unlike DVD. and it never hurts anyone that it has 50GBs of space. i feel PS3 is worth the money, as do the other 3.78 plus million PS3 owners. thats all that matters.

dude seriously you ought to consider changing the way you think and see things.

you are speaking for every PS3 owner? wow, now i see why you like Sony's "arrogance". they've infected you with it.

you aren't speaking for *this* PS3 owner. or my all my PS3 owning friends who paid $600 just to be in the top 1500 folding@home teams in the world with nothing to play.

i stated that i don't like the Wii or Nintendo offerings either, but i'd never be presumptuous to speak for others unlike yourself. i suggest you change your way of thinking and seeing for *others*.

you DO very much care about who's the "underdog" or are you forgetting your brandboy cheerleader statement that caused me to call you out in the first place?

that little brandboy exhibition you had was hardly about "quality experience"

try to grasp the essence of my statement instead of trying to argue on technicalities. the point is, there are 3.78 million plus PS3 owners out there.

"you aren't speaking for *this* PS3 owner. or my all my PS3 owning friends who paid $600 just to be in the top 1500 folding@home teams in the world with nothing to play."

if what you're claiming is true, you and/or your friends got bigger issues to deal with. No normal sane person spends $600 on a PS3 if they don't like the available software.

I bought the PS3 because I wanted to play Oblivion, Resistance, Ridge Racer 7, NBA 2K7, MotorStorm, and now Ninja Gaiden Sigma. if you and/or your friends dont like the PS3 software, why did you guys waste your money?

"you DO very much care about who's the "underdog" or are you forgetting your brandboy cheerleader statement that caused me to call you out in the first place?"

actually i dont, but you can keep thinking what you want.

"that little brandboy exhibition you had was hardly about "quality experience""

obviously it wasnt. whats your point? i brought up the "quality experience" rant in my last reply to you to show you why i find quality experience with the PS3 and 360, as opposed to the Wii.

we bought PS3s because we thought games would look and play better than on our 360s - as later hardware always used to and Sony insisted it would - and that the promised exclusives would be out by now. wrong on both counts.

for once you are right about something, buying the PS3 when we did was a complete waste of money.

i feel sorry for everyone who didn't enjoy a 360 while waiting for the PS3 at $600 only to *still* be left waiting as the prices continue to drop.

regardless of who made either.

so you spent $600 solely based on Sony PR promises, instead of waiting for the games you want to be released? yup, you arent sane or normal.

"i feel sorry for everyone who didn't enjoy a 360 while waiting for the PS3 at $600 only to *still* be left waiting as the prices continue to drop."

i pity people who were unfortunate to get an RRoD unit and/or have their games get the red ring of disc death.

i also pity people like you who bought a PS3 even though you didnt like any of the games available on the system, which leaves me to conclude you're talking right out of your ass in a pathetic attempt to try to outargue me ;)

have a nice life clown. after your last reply you arent worth my time anymore.

heh, you desperately grasp onto RRoD and i'm the one saying anything to stay in this argument. thats rich.

you've been exposed. everyone sees you for what you are and votes you down. deal with it.

I'm sure everyone remembers the old mac spoof with the Wii and PS3. I think that everyone should just think of it like that, of course throwing in the PC guy for the XBOX (shudder)
