After
questioning Jericho's lack of presence so close to its impending September release in our initial impressions, we're finally able share some (very dark) gameplay videos from
Gametrailers. The clips focus mainly on physical combat, though you'll catch a few glimpses of the character switching mechanic and the destructive magical abilities that prompted us to describe the depicted struggle as a "micro-war between fantastic supernatural beings."
Also of note is the fact that voice acting is not yet finalized and that the soundtrack, composed by
God of War's Cris Velasco, is currently absent.
[
Warning: Videos contain some profanity, violence and the line, "I'm very dusty, sir."]

Well we know the footage is from the 360 version at least and it is looking smoooooooth ;)

I bet it would look amazing if there was more light...
okenny @ Jul 19th 2007 10:50PM
I don't know... I actually want to play it like that... at night even... freak myself out... not sure I like the escort party element though... they're going to call all your shots and kill the surprise element of an enemy sneaking up on you and freaking you out.
SID SPACE @ Jul 19th 2007 10:50PM
Seriously. What good are smooth textures if you can't even see them.
And those one-liners are extremely annoying.
ihateemo @ Jul 19th 2007 11:33PM
I doubt the game will stay that dark, and you'll be able to adjust the gamma.
I'm looking forward to seeing the game in more depth - cutscenes and things like that. I hope there's more than just mindless shooting too. I loved FEAR's use of "quiet" spots to ratchet up the tension.
Looks sweet.

well my hype for this game just went through the floor, ya cant see shit, the script is horrible as well, no wonder they didnt show it at e3.

TOO DARK = CRAP GAME
That deaf guy @ Jul 20th 2007 12:29AM
WTB night vision goggles!!!
Joking aside... looks like a great game, but i'd go blind playing this being pitch black and all.

Die! FPSs,Fuckin Die! No more FPSs! They need to be put six feet under.

Don't buy them, it's not that hard. I somehow manage to remain completely oblivious to half the sports games out there and simultaneously don't feel a need to post about how I don't care for them every time a site mentions the things.
The darkness doesn't really hurt much, in my opinion. It's fitting to some degree and as someone mentioned, there should be a gamma control. If not, turn up the brightness on your TV. Worked well for me when playing Dead Rising and other titles.

The game looks pretty good, especially in the third video, but whats annoying me is the voice acting. They don't seem scared enough. They all sound like arrogant cocky bastards. I understand they're "Jerichos" and it's basically their job, but God damn, a little fear in their voice would've been nice, and would've added to the fear factor during gameplay, especially with the damn scary shit that goes on in that third video. I don't know, maybe i'm wrong considering Gears of War had cocky bad ass characters too, but that game wasn't banking on being scary, and the lead character isn't a girl....
Rare Hare @ Jul 20th 2007 1:50AM
What do you guys want? For a nightmarish underworld to be bright and full of bloom?
I think the game looks pretty amazing.. though I'd probably only play it in an online co-op mode.
Watching these videos makes me think of what Diablo would be like as an FPS.

At least we ain't killing humans. It looks like a good game, though dark. Should include a flash-light at least...
Billqvist @ Jul 21st 2007 7:48AM
So, has anyone played Painkiller lately?
t_m @ Jul 20th 2007 9:24AM
Yeah.. they need to be going for more of the aliens "the walls are moving!!!" panic'ed static.. and less of the annoying, cocky american action hero stereotypes.
And they seriously need to cut down on the frequency of the comments... every 2 seconds is ridiculous and will get old VERY soon.
There is a fine line to tread on the darkness issue.. darkness can add fear.. but TOO MUCH darkness just makes it annoying and causes you to turn up the gamma. (see doom3).
Really, they need to give you a permanent flashlight (not a doom3 one you have to switch to) so you can see what you are targetting, but can't see everything.

I have to agree, I was extremely excited about this game, it looks awesome, the premise is good, clive barker tells a hell of a story. Then I heard the voice acting... and the one liner "witty banter"...
I'll still buy it, but I but anything.
Oh and the article clearly says "Also of note is the fact that voice acting is not yet finalized and that the soundtrack, composed by God of War's Cris Velasco, is currently absent."
So there is yet hope.

In the first video, after the girl kills the enemy, she says, "permission to shoot."
That is stoopid. She already shot. Do we really need stupid one liners in our games?
I don't think so, spank you very much.
