Meh

Wipeout has always been the poor cousin to F Zero

Please. Wipeout is the far better series. F-Zero is too easy.

I like the wipeout games better then fzero. But like most racing games, it gets old fast.

Not sure what your lame status has to do with it, but lucky you for enjoying Wipeout Pure. I bought it for my PSP at launch and have struggled to play it for more than a couple of hours since. I just found it boring. GX, while amazing was slightly disappointing as a sequel to F Zero X though. I liked the greater emphasis on direct attacks on other cars in X.

maybe the jaggies aren't as noticeable in action. I've never played a wipeout game but I'm willing to give this one a try since my psp is begging to be used.

if you were to reduce these images to the actual size of a psp screen they probably wouldn't look so bad... especially while in motion.

you would think that everyone here has used a computer long enough to realize what happens when you enlarge a bitmap image above it's native size.

Never liked fzero but didn't REALLY start liking Wipeout until XL, and then Wipeout Fusion blew my mind despite the bad reviews.

Seeing as this game has custom soundtracks and track editing goodies, I guess it's safe to say that the PS3 Wipeout coming out next year will have both of those things too.

Was there a point to this? It's a very simple comparison to make between F-Zero and WipeOut.

But anyway, Pacman > Quake.

I agree Pacman > Quake 3.

After playing F-Zero GX, a game like Wipeout just looks slow as hell to me.

And the engenius/diabolical design to make boosting do damage to your ship made the game all the more intense.

wipeout games get progressively faster as you change classes. they are playing one of the earlier classes. [they probably didnt unlock the harder ones for the demo. sticking a casual gamer into one of the later classes would be cruel.]

wipeout pure has a mode that allows you to continually get faster and faster, seeing how many laps you can complete before your vehicle explodes from accured damage

F-Zero is way better than this. I also think Pac-Man is better than Quake 3. That was a really stupid comparison btw

wipeout pure is one of the few games i have for my psp (I neglect it, poor little thing). I thought it was quite good, but I couldn't help thinking 'I wish this was more like F-zero'.

Pac-Man better than Quake? God no. WTF? The CE version is pretty good, but the classic version is utterly boring.

@ Vidikon

Quake = Fairly standard FPS. Most of them are above average in quality, but none have really done much to expand the genre.

Pacman = Quite possibly the most recognized video game icon in the world because it provides a unique gaming experience that has stood the test of time for decades now.

So that's why Pacman > Quake.

@Brad Lee

I have to disagree with your assessment of Quake. Quake 1 and 2 and huge impacts on the FPS market, especially on multiplayer... think about all the user made maps and mods. Much of that exploded with Quake. Even Quake 3 (along with the original UT) marked the beginning of FPS games focused purely on multiplayer. I'd say only Quake 4 can be considered 'generic'. It sounds to me like you just we're around the PC scene back in the Quake 1/2 days to see the impact.

And, honestly, I really don't think Pac-Man has aged that well. Have you played it recently? It's fine to play for a few minutes when you get that nostalgic itch, but it gets boring fast. Quake is still fun today, but it doesn't get played by many people because of the massive amount of replacements in the market (all the FPS games). Though there are people still making maps for Quake and Quake 2 believe it or not. Pac-Man really didn't have any true successors. A few games like Ms Pac-Man, but nothing all that different and nothing people really play today.

Now that sounds like a lot of fun, actually.

I bought Wipeout Pure for a friend because it was $7 used on Gamefly and I had a $5 off coupon. I never tried it myself, but now I'm thinking I may have to borrow it.
